I was impressed with Robinson's enthusiasm. I'm usually a bit weary of the overly theatrical touch line antics, Sherwood springs to mind. However, I think it's quite genuine with him, as opposed to a Sherwood who does it to mask the lack of substance.

Part of me also thinks KR needs to show that animation to try and fire us up. I problem is also that I don't think the team is strong enough. Fox was targeted quite effectively today and for me

Thought Fox was ok ish, otherwise I agree about midfield and Ajose.

Was I watching a different game or am I just more reasonable?

    I thought Botaka played well.

He played really well. The final ball needs improving, but you could say that about quite a few of our players.
@jdmotion - sorry, pressed LOL by mistake and can't remember how to edit it out.
Do you not just press it again?

The familiar shortcomings surfaced again, as did the familiar strengths, with the two strong CB's ably assisted by a third when he came on at RB. Phillips is growing in stature, looking confident and calm, with some very good distribution. Strange to leave the two attacking subs until added time but perhaps Robinson wanted to get a good look at how his first team managed all aspects of the situation. That said, he must surely have drawn one or two conclusions by then - I had!!

WIngers that tracked back? I sat in the Lower North behind Fox for the first half. He was left continually exposed by Lookman and was turned inside out by Reeves, supported by the overlapping Baldock, who exposed his usual weakness of not being able to defend against opponents cutting inside to attack his right foot.
He's one of the most one-footed players I've ever seen.
  • Thought MK looked good breaking at pace particularly down our left. They had some very neat players but didn't create much. First half we weren't in it, second half we had more energy, not much quality but we managed to carve out a couple of chances. Thought Crofts and Ulvestad looked slow and laboured. MK's midfield moved the ball quickly and we need a bit of that.

January will really show us if this lot are serious, will they put up funds to add to the squad and will KR be allowed without interference to get his choice of players? History says not a chance but we live in hope. If not we might end up playing a better style than under Slade but we'll be short of the playoffs. My worry is the regime think we have a good enough squad and a change in manager will be enough. They didn't listen to Slade so will they now listen to KR?
  • We just don't do cup competitions do we.
51 years of supporting Charlton and I've never seen us progress beyond the quarter finals in a major cup competition.
Not that i was expecting us to this season.

    Just saying

Weren't you at Wembley for the Full Members Cup Final??

    Yes i was
God help us if that's all we can remember: )
Blackpool is Charlton, never doubt the old c***.

My worry is that money will be made available, but only because of sales. So, like most of the transfer windows under the regime, we may bring in some needed players, but we'll offload more.

I would not be surprised if Bauer were to be sold as well as Lookman, and some kind of deal be agreed for Tex (in my paranoid moments, I worry that they could be persuaded to let Phillips and Magennis go, if anyone asks about them).

The underlying belief of the regime is that, effectively, all footballers are basically interchangeable, so, they would assume that Mitov would do as well as Phillips, or Novak would be as good as Magennis, forgetting what each character either does or does not bring to the squad.
  • You just know we'll pull out the mancs or Arsenal away for a big day out but lose the replay.
  • I assume that Tex was only playing because it was the Cup and that we should expect him to go back to being an unused sub next week.
  • You just know we'll pull out the mancs or Arsenal away for a big day out but lose the replay.

Playing like we are at the moment it would be an absolute turkey shoot for any Prem team let alone one in the top 6!

    It'll be Palace or Huddersfield.

If there is some kind of bidding war, then the sales may be made too late to get anybody in.
  • New manager , but same old shit . We simply don't have a good enough squad of players.
  • THat was crap. I asked myself why I did it. OK it was only a tenner, but I wanted a refund after the first half.

At least we'll be in the draw to hear "and here's what you could have won"

    (It'll be Huddersfield won't it?)
  • Why do we not pressurise teams from the front like they do to us? It means our centre-halves or full-backs have very little time on the ball and often end up just lumping it forward to little effect. The odd time we do it, the opposition have given the ball away so why not do it more often?

Bit flat for a new manager's bounce. Are we sure this is a new era, or does that start next week?

Meet the new era, same as the old era.

Andy Reid, Jerome Thomas, Carl Leaburn, Garry Nelson, Chris Waddle, Alan Shearer, David Beckham, and so on ad infinitum. Most footballers are one-footed.
  • We need a new midfield. End of.
  • FAC immaterial. MKD good goal disallowed. They we'rent coming to lie down in view of situation thus stalemate inevitable.
Hopefully a decent R3 draw stimulates interest amongst players. End of the day as we know from 2014 league only thing that matters.
  • Went shopping with the wife . . . looks like I made the right decision. Not really sure if Robinson knows just what he has let himself in for, good luck buddy 'cos you're gonna need it!!
  • We need a new midfield. End of.

    2006.

We've been saying this every year since 2006.

Our midfield has been inadequate for 10 years.

We've had a few years when 2 out 4 players have been competent, but hampered by their need to cover for a series of promising but ultimately shit players and lumpen journeymen.

    Take your pick.

  • I only managed to catch the last 10 mins on the stream as I had a video interview to complete.
.seems like didn't miss much. From what I did see Hanlan impressed me again want to see him starting soon.

Ajose really should have put that chance away near the end when it came across goal off Magennis. Golden opportunity, pretty much open goal, can't miss. He just had to throw himself at it get something on it and it's in. Didn't appear to fully go for it...
  • First half was dire. Couldn't retain possession and we just looked bad. Second half was a lot better but we still didn't really test their keeper (apart from the Magennis's one on one which he should have scored).

Overall, not a good day at the office. I thought Dillon Phillips was our standout. Ajose was awful. What were those ridiculous gloves he was wearing in the first half? They were gone in the second half. I can't understand why people have been pushing for Botaka to start. I thought he was very ineffective. Overall we lacked flair. I think we're missing Holmes. Lookman had an off day as well and our midfield is very weak.

    0-0 was a fair result.

Because we have seen decent cameos from him, but he failed to take his chance today, Fear Lookman is suffering from the bullying he has received this season and he needs a minder to help, him out
  • What are people thoughts on Hanlan? Honestly and i know he's young but he doesn't look ready yet. Would rather Ahearne Grant or even Aribo came on instead.

Spoken to Paul Walsh in the past and he said his minder was Derek Hales when he played for us .
Not so sure a modern Killer would be allowed to dish out his treatment
  • First half was appalling: outplayed, outpassed and outthought.

Big improvement in the second and it was needed.

Positive: I watched on TV and we didn't lose!
  • Please give Hanlon a proper chance upfront in place of Ajose.

I get the impression that Hanlon is really up for it whereas Ajose seems like a total wimp.

Why Ahearne-Grant? Looked promising when he first came in a few years ago but seemed to lack confidence.

Hanlan's more physical and again found himself through on goal, in time could develop into a similar player to Magennis.

Aribo's a midfielder, would have liked to have seen him come on. It's not as if we're strong in CM.

You're correct - I'm answering this query on behalf of @i_b_b_o_r_g tonight
What? Have I been sacked already @i_b_b_o_r_g in favour of that cuddles bloke? When did that happen and why? .
