I doubt the bookies have much a of a clue in reality. In an ideal world, rating someone as 'favourite' would take into account two factors: 1) who the club wants 2) the candidate's willingness to take such a poisoned chalice. And #2 is a completely unknown quantity.
It's like being the favourite in a flat race where all of a sudden a bloody great fence has been erected a furling from home.

So much speculation that I wouldn't believe anything. As for the bookies' odds, they are based on what people wager not who is most likely to get the job. Only look at that usually when they suspend betting on X or Y.
I also wouldn't put I past the club to put out disinformation to the press (who will gobble up an easy story) so that when they do appoint a puppet they can say they tried but were unable to land some of those named.

The real problem is (and i said this when Slade was appointed) it doesn't matter who takes the job. Any manager who is prepared to come to this club, in the current state it is in, is taking the job for the WRONG reasons!
Most managers will know how poor the currrent situation is. Most managers will know the track record of past managers over the last few years. Most managers will know they will be restricted in actually managing the team. They will know the relationship between fans and owners....the list goes on.
So why would any manager, who genuiely wanted to do well, genuinely wanted to further their career, genuinely wanted to build their own team, gain promotion, play exciting football etc....why would they pick us?
Any manager who takes the job on is doing so to either earn a fast buck and just 'stay in the game' or because they a complete idiot with no concept of what is actually going on at the club. Either way - that is not the sort of manager we need. It wouldn't matter if it was Sir Alex Fergie - you can only do so much at a club like Charlton being run the way it is.
Im afraid to say ANY manager who takes this job on, under the ownership of RD and KM will not get my backing becuase I don't believe they will be taking the job on for the right reasons and they must be content to take a back seat when it comes to buying and selling players, team selection etc.
To be fair to Slade - he was in a win, win position. He's failed. Bagged himself a small fortune and I doubt his career will be dented too much as most people will look at the club and expect managers to fail. Any new manager who takes this job will know that and will just bide their time.

Nugent will be supported by Simon Clark and Chris O’Loughlin, a new addition to the club’s coaching staff who, contrary to reports, will not become the club’s new Manager.
Nugent, who took the team’s training session on Tuesday, said: “It has been a busy week for everyone involved at the club and our focus now is very much on Saturday’s game with Port Vale and securing three points.
"We’ve played them already this season, so we have an idea of what to expect and we will be working hard to ensure that the boys are ready and focussed when 3pm comes around on Saturday."
Nugent has previously had spells as a Caretaker Manager at Leyton Orient and Swansea City.
O’Loughlin has previously worked as an Assistant Coach at Orlando Pirates and Melbourne Victory and also had stints as Head Coach at Congolese club AS Vitaand Sint-Truiden.

I dont have an issue with Chris joining the coaching team if its going to work to Charlton's advantage, hell he might be a good coach and by not becoming Manager straight away will help him to learn and understand the English game without the pressures of being an inexperienced Manager

Just one thought though... I'm guessing that Kevin Nugent will remain Assistant Manager when the new man comes into... Simon Clark will remain First Team Coach (?), what with O'Loughlin's title be?
