Not all your fault Slade, but you choose the team, set out the tactics & make the substitutions. I noticed Port Value changed it at half time, but don't recall RS ever changing our team at half time. Tonight I hear we subbed out 3 best players without any appearing to be injured.....and none really being an attacking option
I don't want to see him go as we've had too many managerial changes over the last 3 seasons, but we cant keep dropping points, especially when in a winning position. I'm no statto, but I'd reckon we'd be in the top 6 if we had clung onto half of the times we have gone 1-0 up this season.
Doea anyone actually like Slade? I was quite ambivalent towards him at first, but have not warmed to him at all & now find him irritating. Wouldnt bother me in the slightest if he goes.
That is an interview from a man clearly feeling the pressure in a big way - it was, to put it mildly, a bit of a piqued and immature response for such an experienced manager. He really does have a thin skin, doesn't he ?
You'd expect him to be irritated by the supporters' chant but, on reflection, I think he'll regret raising that in the heat of the moment and criticising the 254 supporters - or at least some of them - who've made a huge effort to get up there on a Tuesday night.
I think that Louis made the right call in not asking about the substitution of Magennis and Holmes towards the end, as Slade would have probably have literally burst a blood vessel. While we may still have drawn the game if they (and Lookman) had stayed on, the psychological impact of taking off your best players - on both your own side and the opposition - is not to be underestimated. Granted that this was a heavy pitch in the rain, that Magennis has done a huge amount of running in the last fortnight for club and country and that Holmes has missed quite a lot of training with knocks over the course of the season, but their mere presence on the pitch is important and the substitutions probably sent a negative message to our side and a positive one to the opposition.
Objectively speaking, the present team and squad are not good enough for a top six finish, although we should certainly be doing better than we are under Slade, given the players at his disposal. I hope that he is at least asking himself whether he needs to modify his approach to games, particularly given our poor home record.
A shame. If he didnt have that first 40 seconds or so in the interview, then actually it wouldn't have been quite so shitty. No need to dig the fans out though, pretty unacceptable - alas that's how the club seems to be managed at all levels now.
He seems edgey: preparing for the sack or been briefed about how our fans are hostile little bastards who enjoy moaning? (I think we can all guess where he'd get that idea from...)
I went tonight. I left my house at half past 2, spent £55 filling up my tank of patrol. Drove for 4 and a half hours with a stop off for some grub (£5 food plus £5.50 M6 toll). Arrived at the ground at around 7:15. Learnt that we set up as 4-5-1 having just smashed a team 3-0 playing 4-4-2.
To the game - first half very good. Very strong first half. Perhaps should've gone into half time with a stronger lead. Second half, we started well. Missed two chances that we should've tucked away. We took Lookman off at around 70 minutes and brought on Hanlan who in my opinion, needed to come on to stretch the opposition, but not for Lookman. Was a negative change but not an unforgivable one.
So on 83 minutes, Slade makes two changes. Holmes (our most inspirational player) off and Chicksen (a left back) on. Magennis (our big man who can attack a ball and defend a ball) and Novak (an overweight player) on. Two of the worst changes I think I've ever witnessed. It ultimately fucks us up and we concede two minutes later from sloppy play from Chicksen (not enough time to settle in) and Fox (not enough time to adapt to being a CB).
I leave the stadium feeling a little deflated, ahead of another 3 hour drive home. I've just got home. I have to be up at 5 o'clock for work.
Slade has absolutely no right to slate me and the other 300 fans. He needs to grow a pair of bollcoks, admit he fucked up and take it on the chin. I'm angered that Slade has basically called us out as opposed to thanking us for spending a fair bit of money and a hell of a lot time.
The chants against him were completely justified. The team were supported heavily throughout. He then ruins what would've been a good win.
Going on the attack from the off in terms of the interview is strangely enough a defensive ploy from a defensive man. He knows he made a massive error and he wanted Louis to be too frightened to ask a specific question about it. The sooner he goes the better, and I have never been one for sacking managers. I'm sure he has been making the same error all of his career, but you can often get away with it but our dynamic makes it very risky. If he played Tex he probably would have though!

I don't have a problem with his interview. His comments were honest about how he feels right after a game, and I agree with him that the team should have been out of site before the late penalty decision. I was there, and out of 250+ Charlton fans, probably 50 or so were singing 'you ain't got a clue' song. I didn't, nor did the majority of the away fans. Does it upset me that Slade then has a slight dig at the fans, even tho the majority were not involved? Certainly doesn't. Fans are becoming so, so precious about being called out, whether it be by Slade or Roger Johnson. If you can't take it, don't dish it out in the first place. What I did find disappointing about the interview was that he was not grilled on the substitution policy and how Slade thought that his subs would improve us winning that game. I think that is what the fans were most puzzled by, especially the Northern Ireland contingent behind me after Josh was subbed.
The apologist returns with another cracking post.
Again, you criticise the fans. Are you in any way related to the Belgians?
Similar to his cringe-worthy "did you see how patient we were" interview, if he just engages his brain and doesn't say the thing that's immediately on his mind in the first 40 seconds the rest of it is a decent enough interview.
However it does provide two interesting insights;
1) Slade clearly feels he's being treated harshly by the fans and it's the most immediate thought in his head after the game which is interesting as it seems to be getting to him
2) Slade is an experienced manager, he should have developed coping mechanisms for criticism from fans by now (given his track record he must have suffered worse than what he's currently receiving). It's interesting that he doesn't seem capable of learning as that, for me, has been his biggest problem this season - he just doesn't seem to learn from the tactical mistakes he's been making.
Whilst I want stability at the club it can't be at any cost. Under Slade we will not be at least in the playoffs which, given the squad we have comparative to the rest of the division, is very poor and it's not a price I'm willing to pay in the name of stability.
Excuse my presumptiousness for repeating my post from another thread, but I hope this is justified...
I would say this in his defence (listening to the commentary). He's getting a lot of stick for subbing Holmes, however, @KillersBeard was pretty clear that Holmes should have been subbed rather than Lookman, because Holmes had collected a yellow for a rash challenge, and then repeated the crime soon afterwards.
And as we all saw, there was no midfield option on the bench. None. He cannot possibly be unaware of it. He cannot possibly be happy about it. But he is not going to tell @LouisMend that, is he? I know where the blame lies for that situation.
You can hear in his voice that he is seething and @LouisMend was right not to push him after the earlier 'bust up' in the season. The problem I have is the way he sets up and then the subs. Why oh Why play Lennon instead of Tex (or even Konsa)? Why cant Ajose get on the park when we have taken off Magennis, Holmes, Lookie? Why bring on Chicksen and drop deeper and deeper? They Mr Slade are your decisions, no-one else's!!
He was never a good enough choice in the first place, just the only one desperate enough to take the job. Says it all that he's willing to work for Vincent Tan and Roland Duchatelet, two of the worst owners in football.
There's a reason he's never been promoted, he's tactically clueless. It was clear to see that away at Bury on the first day, nothing has changed.
That is two post-match interviews running where Slade has gone off track.
After Coventry he wilfully misinterpreted the focus of the flying pigs protest by speaking of it as a protest about team performance and position in the table rather than a protest about the regime (although how he could have failed to hear the Roland/SISU out chants is beyond me).
His hearing appears magically to have returned at Port Vale as he over-reacted wildly in the post-match interview to the chanting which accompanied his decisions towards the end of the game.
In both instances I wanted to hear what the football manager of this club has to say about the performances and his reasons for decisions made.
However, in both instances Slade has not acted in a way befitting a manager and, in particular, the Port Vale comments betray a lack of self-confidence and an apparent eagerness to start lying blame elsewhere which is fatal for a manager even if it may be partly true.
He just sounds really pissed off, which is fair enough. But definitely not the best move to open his comments by being sarcastic about the fans' reaction. He would have been better saying the fans could have helped out a bit by throwing some pigs on the pitch....
Horrible feeling its going to be similar to Dagenham a few years ago as the manager and players get pelters as they leave the pitch next to the away support.
Slade is all over the place - praises the 167 that went to Scunthorpe a few weeks ago and lays into the support last night?
Looking at the table this morning and envy at Sheff Utd who are W7 D3 L3 as opposed to our W3 D7 L3 - could easily be in their position with a bit of nous.
I don't want Slade to go unless it is for a manager of the quality of Kenny Jacket as it would be pointless.
I also hope Slade has learnt that Tex needs to start against the Gills.
I reckon if we play Tex it will trigger of a payment clause in his contract where we have to pay a large some of money to his former club. In other words, no matter how short of players we are, we will not play him
He needs to learn to bat these questions off, he is not endearing himself to the fans, all he has to say is I understand their frustrations and they are entitled to their opinion and leave it there, he seems to bit just like when asked about in coming transfers earlier in the season.

They got Wilder and we got Slade , although law of averages are on Sheffield Utd's side they had to come good at some point !

I get what you're saying, but if he's not willing to criticise the owners for not giving him the right resources then it's a very cowardly route to lash out at the fans instead to try and justify himself. If you go into a job like this with your hands tied you can publicly rage against the owners and get sacked, or you can keep quiet and take the inevitable inquest. You shouldn't try and pass that crap situation on the people who made the trip though

Then say it and don't make Slade look like a complete idiot!

He's just as bad as the rest of them.
It's like Henry the 8th never found the right woman...so they always changed.
Sacked, mutual agreement, resigned, sacked, resigned, sacked
(I can't remember the Henry VIII little order riddle thing)
