I'll be sending a FOI request to the met police tomorrow and will post the response once received in several weeks.
Good idea, it's not as if the Met has anything better to do with their resources than respond to a FOI about the actual size of a crowd everybody else agrees was actually quite decent all things considered.
No, we don't all agree it was quite decent.
It was the lowest crowd since March 1998.
Even if there were 11,500 in the ground, which there wasn't, it is in no way a decent crowd.
Let's see what the gate is on Tuesday but I think it could go under 10k even officially.
Not a bad crowd seeing as we had roughly 5000 boycotting
Which one, the actual one or the fictious one?
Call the crowd 8,500 if you want telly. With all the crap going on 5000 boycotting and with us down near the bottom of league one not a bad crowd.
I think we need to alter the way we use certain words in this discourse. Under normal circumstances bigger crowds are seen as good, decent or healthy and small crowds are seen as poor. That is absolutely not the case at the moment. At the present time, we are faced with the most malignant regime that is killing our club. The best single way of purging ourselves of this cancer is to starve it of its funding. In an ideal world nobody would attend any matches at The Valley. I am certain that if we could maintain attendances of zero, the club would be up for sale within a month and we would soon rid ourselves of this vile sickness. Sadly, that is never going to be the case. The ties that bind are very tight; people have very strong emotional reasons for attending even though it isn't in our collective interests. I don't want to berate those who do attend. I understand the pull of the club, of personal traditions and associated family and friendship ties. Nevertheless, I think we need to move away from the traditional notion that bigger crowds are better. If we moderate our language away from the traditional value judgements that are associated with crowd-size, we might be successful in nudging attitudes a little bit and perhaps encourage healthier levels of non-attendance.
From the Upper West the north end of the East Stand looked quite full (not normally that well populated) full so assume that is where all the freebies were placed, I would be surprised if there were more than 8000 in the home stands.
Re the attendance ... what it comes down to is whether we trust anything we are told by the club at the moment. Squirrel face needs good news and if she tells Roland the gate was really good and the boycott never materialised, he'll be happy. So 11,500 it is. Expect more of the same.

I thought it was about 10.5k thanks to the excellent cobblers support and the freebies of course. It was actually a pleasant atmosphere and a decent game. Mind you, the div at the ticket office gave me a seat at the front of the west stand instead of at the back as I asked and then charged me full price after I asked for over 65...and there I am wanting to support the 'on the day' box office staff!
Sitting in The Upper North, I'd say the East was half full, say 3,000, with a lot of new faces at the North end, so presumably on some sort of deal/complementary.
The West looked bare, say 1,500 max.
The lower north looked far less full than I expected. I'm wondering if fans paid for the cheap seats downstairs and sat upstairs. Say 1,500, but difficult to tell if not impossible from above.
The Upper North had at least as many as at some games last season much to my surprise & all the vocals & drum were still up there. Say 3,500 including the quadrants.
Northampton brought a good crowd at least 1,500 I'd say.
So a total of 11,000.
I've probably overestimated, because the attendance, wouldn't have been as high as the official attendance, but that's what it looked like to me & I'm never that far off.
I have to say I was really surprised how many were in the Upper North as I thought it would be very sparse.
Anyway, everyone got behind the team & personally I never heard any negativity, apart from some boos to Roger Johnson, although he wasn't playing.
Attendance at the first home game the last time we were relegated was 16,552. Yesterday was probably half as full as that. Obvious that it would be less but to lose 50% of support in 7 years is pretty dramatic.
Photos of the 'crowd' posted in the match thread by @Wheresmeticket? during the game. May help with some of the estimates on here. Here's one of north upper and lower:
I was there today and I would definitely say there was well over 10k ( partially thanks to the Northampton fans) but I guess we will never know .
I should think from experience and observation the west was under 20 per cent full and the north under 30 per cent. We know there were 1,283 from Northampton (which will be pretty accurate).
If there were 1,500 in the west and 3,000 in the north and the quadrants, the east stand would need to be at capacity to achieve the announced attendance. It wasn't.
With all due respect to others, there isn't anybody else I would trust more than Airman with an attendance estimate.

I have to say there's more in lower north and less in the upper north, than I thought.
The difference between this season and last season, is that other than holiday absences in August a much higher percentage of season ticket holders will actually be attending. The people who had S/Ts last season and stopped attending presumably didn't renew.

Estimates get distorted by the angle you are looking from, and whether people are standing or not. The East was a lot emptier than you would estimate from a view from the left side of the NU. Was only the mid sections of the two central that were more than half full.
Lower west tier concourse looked dead when we got there yesterday. And that was from 2.30pm.
Felt like a pre-season friendly.
Also, and I'm not digging out the north stand, but I felt far less singing yesterday, only got riled up after we got the equaliser. That's not me having a pop, Just means to me it's evident we've lost a lot of loyal and faithful supporters
I also noticed the same at Cheltenham re: chanting. I remember one chorus of 'come on you reds' at a first half corner. Nothing then until the final whistle and 'we want Roland out'
Can't believe 11,500, and of that maybe seven k Charlton and 1,800 Northampton
Walking to the ground I said to my mate this is busier than I anticipated, and once inside I would defiantly say the attendance was about the 11,000 mark. No question it was down to the free tickets given out to the world and his wife, let's see on Tuesday.

Tuesday though will be far less i guess
Mind you, we'll be moving back to the North Upper as soon as these eejits are gone!!

: - )
Seems about right.
The figure to look out for Tuesday is if we drop below the BTTV 8337 gate from 1992.
