  • (semi tongue in cheek, but as I said, the raw footballing talent is already pretty plain to see)

Let's stop fucking about with Dixon in the unders and get him on the weights and some long runs, build up his strength and stamina. He's clearly got the raw talent already
Feels like he could have a mega preseason and be a bit more like TC next season which would be very helpful

But as the Orient game proved, not ready yet.

Which is why I hope they already have a mid-to-long term plan for him that involves a lot of strength and stamina work
  • and I hope they play him in the right position

  • Well done, lads !
  • I think that means we qualify out of our group.

    Thanks, clive.

It certainly sounds like a "faced paced " game !

Dixon doesn't need stamina work, he's like a duracell bunny.  He is never going to be a hold-up striker, so strength is not an issue. He just needs the right balls in the right areas, preferably a yard or two in front of him.

Dixon, or Ahadme or Hylton? That's a toughie. Not.

Interesting that Enslin was not in the squad.

It would have been more of a true test had we played him in a position suited to his game though mate
  • Poor Ryan Huke.

Scores twice but ignored because not a "name signing".
Hasn't he got a few goals to his name this season now?

He wasn't up to the pace of the game, his position that night was not relevant in that regard

I'd be quite surprised if we don't loan him out this month. I get that he's still quite raw but he's a 20 year old who's played and scored at international level. He's not some 16 year old kid.

A few months of senior football followed by a good pre-season with us and then he'd hopefully be ready to go for us next season.

Mwamba too, crossed for both of Huke’s goals while playing out of position as a RWB.

Blowing out of his arse after 20 mins. His position on the pitch that night was irrelevant.
  • Huke certainly seems to have an eye for goal, he is regularly a scorer for the last 2-3 seasons when fit.  I was glad to see we renewed his contract this season.  I think he is quite small so will usually mean he develops a little later.
Be interested to hear from those that watch (I just follow from posts on here) if they think he has a chance.
The U21s generally are doing very well with a relatively young team this season so would like to think a few stand a chance.

From the streams I’d say it’s the usual concerns you’d have with a smaller CM. I don’t doubt Huke’s technical ability annd eye for goal and a pass. Wales is a similar type of player too.

To play in the first team he’ll need to make the step up in physicality, intensity and expectations. I can see players like Enslin and Laqeretabua doing that in time, it’s less obvious for a player like Huke.

He’d have probably had a better chance under a manager like Garner. Jones demands that physicality, energy and aggression across the team. Garner prioritised technical ability and intelligence (Payne and Williams as his L2 CMs for example).
  • Berry and Docherty are hardly giants though are they?
  • Berry and Docherty are hardly giants though are they?
No but they’ve competed enough physically and in terms of fitness over their careers. Plenty of small technical players never make that step up. It’s why players like Anderson and in the past Cousins get a chance but others like Ruben Bover didn’t.

A loan might be a good test, Kedwell did it this time last year. The problem with that is I don’t think it’s the plan anymore, our u21 squad is small and backed up by u18s, many of who are only 16/17.
