Slade's set up yesterday really worries me. Absolutely shocking lineup and non-existent tactics. Yes the squad is weak but any competent manager could've put out a much better team than he did yesterday.

I'm not disagreeing, but what would your team have been then ?

Midfield should have been Holmes, Ba, Crofts, Lookman.
Not the best of starts but he is doing a lot of what we all wanted. You will never please everyone on this site. A lot just come on here to whinge as they have such banal lives that they have nothing else to do.

So what part are you happy with? It's the results that count and thus far he hasn't got close to getting one. The problems on and off the field are still the same as they were last season, selling the best players and trying to complete without a squad up to speed or talented enough to stop the rot. I want better for my club. Just because someone speaks English as their first language does not mean that I should be overjoyed and ignore his failings. He hasn't pulled up trees, (correct me if I'm wrong), anywhere in his long career kicking around the lower end of the football league. If people are still in any doubt just have a look at who we played in the last few days and then have a look at the stats from the matches.

I think you meant to post on the Slade out thread. This is the 100% support one.

Any one will do for me.
OK. Can you put his "failings " as you see them into some sort of context then? i.e. size of club, how much he spent etc and then compare his teams performance against their peers.
If you do, you may just decide he is a better manager than you first thought. I think he is doing a very difficult job very well.
I am really sorry but I find Slade's interviews increasingly desperate. I agree that he started off seemingly genuine and positive but having just watched the Pre-Northampton interview he looks like a clueless, rabbit in a headlights. He spouts cliche after cliche, nothing meaningful in 15 minutes. I think he knows that things are desperate and I am getting no reassurance that he really believes things are going to improve. I am more worried about the situation AFTER watching him than before it. Oh dear, when will this end??!!

Ok, apart from Cardiff and maybe Leicester way back ,similar size clubs and where he failed despite having better resources than he has now.size He has never been anything other than ordinary.
He's doing a difficult job, but very well?
Size of club;We are probably bigger than the first two we've played and bigger than most we will play in this league.
How much spent; undisclosed but we have a top six budget, apparently.
And against our peers; the mighty Bury and Cheltenham, not too good but tomorrow is another chance to get things on track.
Tomorrow, at home, I hope to see a vast improvement but the realist in me knows Slade has an impossible job and would not be able to change this clubs fortunes even if he had better resources at his disposal.

I think he needs to be given some slack. He has had a massive rebuild to overlook and he is right, we all need to have a bit of patience.
I am trying to divorce my feelings for Rolly and his minions from the players and the management team and get behind the team. I really want out of this shit league.
Impossible to tell if he's any good or not at this stage. He started off saying the right things, which might not have done him any favours with head girl, but it's possible the frustrations of his situation are now taking their toll on his demeanour. I think the bloke deserves a chance and should be judged after his signings have had a bit of time to gel. It's not his fault pre-season was wasted - he wasn't even here for most of it - and he clearly inherited a shambles. He needs to have got some sort of shape and system up and running soon, but I'll judge him at the end of September (unless we lose our next six).
Here's a little insight for you. I've got a mate at work who was closely involved with Scarborough FC and got to know Slade very well at his time there. I was told that Slade always wanted any new acquisitions in early, to prepare properly so what has happened with us in the close season will be hurting him. Apparently he's quite a laid back individual who loves the game to his bones and expects those he works with to feel the same. In his experience my mate says Slade has a limit to what he'll put up with. Whether or not he's competent, able to get us playing decent football and more importantly getting us a few wins remains to be seen but I don't think we have a manager/coach who won't try his best.
I have no gripe with him, but our midfield is terribly weak. I know the owner is mostly to blame but Slade hasn't shown any urgency to address the issue. You need x chances to score a goal (I'd say x for us is somewhere between 7 to 9) and the midfield has an important role to play in that! Strikers will always miss chances, but you give them enough of them and they will score - the best strikers need less, but the principle applies for all. I have been impressed with some of his words but actions speak much louder so the jury is out as far as I'm concerned. I thought our draw with Cardiff when JBG equalised when we were down to 10 was a situation where Peeters totally out managed Slade and said so at the time!
I do agree with a previous post, that given what we have, you have to risk going with BA in the middle - not ideal but you can hope he has a decent game - that would at least give the midfield a better balance! And I am not saying Ba is the answer, but you have to do the best with what you have!
We have to get behind Slade because he is all we have and he is our manager. If, somehow, he works a miracle, great. If it goes as we all fear, so be it and he will be gone by the New Year. His background suggests he is, being charitable, at the peak of his abilities with us and I can't help but feel he was not aware of quite how bad things were when he joined - we've probably all taken a job out of necessity only to find within a few weeks it's worse than we suspected.
For now, support the team (other than Roger Johnson) and manager while giving absolute hell to the regime.

I don't necessarily disagree, but I think Slade wants the central midfield to win the ball back, and shift if out wide.
I think he wants the creativity to come from the wings.
Employed by the regime, part of the regime. I'll give him the benefit of doubt until the end of the month. Then I'll decide if to support him or not.
Christ, as long as that!..
If he fails the regime will have failed once again. The last thing I want is Katy and Roland getting the notion that their way works. Nothing's changed, we've lost good players once again and recruited league 3 players, too late, not enough of them and lacking in quality to get us out of division 3. We are away to bloody Bury at the weekend and we still haven't assembled a squad. At this rate we will quickly become a team battling at the wrong end of the league. Slade knew all this before he took over, he's already lowered expectations by saying we haven't got a squad to challenge for the top. So, I will give him, (grudgingly), till the end of the month. By then we will all know the true ambitions of our club.
I've revised that time frame, this time next week.
After the first half I'd wished he'd gone Friday. Second half a bit of an improvement, but it's clear, this is his level. He probably has enough about him to keep us up, no better.

If he does, nothing wrong with that, but it needs to come from both and he ought to appreciate that. I'm sure he does. But that midfielder is a must if we are going to have a decent season. Foley is certainly not a central midfileder. Crofts can do a job there but needs complimenting.
Starting to feel that Slade can't see what the rest of us plainly can. I realise that he doesn't have too many options in central midfield at the moment but playing Jacko on the left is now unforgivable. We had Lookman and Botake on the bench in a game crying out for width. After we scored he delayed too long before bringing on Ademola and Botake who stretched the play allowing Ajose space to show his ability for the first time. Looks to me that RS is a play it too safe manager and only has a plan A.
I had hopes that Slade might be the experienced and knowledgable man we were hoping for but I don't think he has the coaching ability to take us forward.
I cant see how Foley is a better bet than BA - and I don't rate BA! But I do believe in balance in how you set a team up!
Makes me grin when I see EHB referred to as BA. Those of you of an age to remember The A Team will understand.
A fellow Lifer has been told from someone working at the club ( and one of the good guys )that we should have 2 midfielders coming in before the Warsaw match. We certainly need them if they're half decent and not just additions as "quantity over quality".

Come on Slade, do it...get behind the fans.
