  • As consumers we all contribute to the success of these multinationals of course.

Some regulation. Is clearly needed. But I’d find it hard to define exactly what it should  be.

The devil is in the detail.
  • Not sure if silver is followed with interest on here. I've been a long-term follower and after years of not very much happening, it's rocketing.

Prices have been on the rise all year up over 150%. In the last week it's up 18%, which isn't out of the ordinary for this year. But the $5 daily rise yesterday caught my attention.

I'm expecting it to go much higher in the long term, but not enough to pick up more SSLN without a big correction first. I've nothing in miners. Britannias remain a rainy day fund - the cost of buying back after selling is prohibitive.

Any views on silver on here?

1 day of the comp to go (technically just half a day as they finish at lunchtime) with the FTSE ending today on a new high. Was over 9950 around 4pm but finished a tad lower  at 9940. One big heave to get it over 10,000 tomorrow and we can all feast well over New Year knowing we all made 20%+ on our UK holdings this year.

Annoyed with myself for our prediction competition. For the start of the year, I suggested we’d get to 10k this year but held off and didn’t go quite that far in my H2 prediction.

If they are listed on the UK stockmarket, pay dividends in Sterling & pay tax here then they are UK holdings...👍. Doesn't matter where they earn their money in my book.

I have a relatively small amount of silver compared to gold.

My preference is more for gold as certain coins are CGT free, Sovereigns have topped £800 now, I can remember it wasn't so long ago they were sub £200.

Although I finished well down the pack I am happy for 2 reasons.

1 - the higher the FTSE goes then the more my clients make in returns......which then makes me look good 😀

2  - I finished above @LargeAddick so family reputation intact.

You assume a little too much, Mr Prague. But thanks for breaking it to me gently. Perhaps next month...

    £100 on £45k….

Looks like my involvement in this lark may be curtailed by the new IHT rules, which I discovered by accident yesterday evening. My issues will be a minority one on here, but not unique, those of you in or approaching retirement and thinking of leaving the UK may face similar issues. So I will post up my understanding so far of the new rules, and will be happy if others join in.
