And they talk about the other parties & the money tree. I'll have to ask my son to see if they sell them at his Garden Centre. (Dobbies in Keston......as frequented by Fred Sirieix, Rio Ferdinand & Peter Varney !)
He does, but I'm ahead of him, a little over 2/3rds of SIPP now in cash (probably 70% of that was in US S&P500 or NASDAQ ETF's), never a bad time to bank profit in my book. S&S ISA also has very little now in the US.bobmunro said:Words of warning? I get the impression he knows what he's talking about!
Gold is still going crazy, starting to get very tempted to cash some in, but then what........ ISA's are full, Premium bonds are full, Pensions maxed out (I could maybe get another £2k into my wife's).2 -
I'll message you at some point, work are wanting to change my contract from early in the new year which will mean I may need to find a home for some more. Not keen on VCT's though at my age.golfaddick said:

Have you ever listened to "word on the street" podcast? If not, maybe worth a try.PragueAddick said:All, I just have to recommend this podcast I have raced through: Coining It, presented (brilliantly IMO) by Lewis Goodall. It involves Bitcoin and Blackpool, more than that re the content I won’t divulge, just to say that a lot of it was simply jaw-dropping, and throughout, exactly as the presenter intends, the listener faces the constant challenge “What would YOU do?” . One other subsidiary question it left me with was how the **** the town of Fleetwood sustains an EFL level footie club.
Enjoy!1 -

Since 4pm markets have dropped sharply. FTSE100 down almost 1% after fairly benign trading all day. Dow Jones down 0.85%, S&P down 1.35% and the tech stock heavy Nasdaq down 1.9%. Not massive falls but anyone looking at graphs will see its heavy selling off.0 -
Isn’t that mostly down to trump posting about China tariffs? Trump led dips are a gift.golfaddick said:

Exactly what I said earlier. Great time to buy dips.Huskaris said:Great opportunity to buy equities at a discount before he inevitably backs down or gets what he wants.Re ai, I’m not convinced it’s the same as the dot com bubble. Yes there are some similarities, but the majority of companies involved in the bubble are either private companies (so bubble bursting would only affect how much money they can raise) and businesses like nvidia, who already have a very profitable non ai related business anyway. It’s not like there’s companies that are being listed and bought up that essentially just have an idea, which is what happened during the dot com bubble.Crypto market also had the biggest liquidation event in its history yesterday, if you’re looking to get exposed to it now might be a good time. Especially altcoins.1 -

The markets are learning slowly that TACO rolls back on his bluster very quickly once he realises that he's not holding any cards.China restricts its output of rare earth minerals so genius Donnie retaliates by imposing more taxes on his own people. I'm up 23.36% over 12 months
17.63% YTD
30.18% over 6 months
8.47% over past month.
Bought my first bit of gold and silver in an ETF, bit I didn't want to do a full portfolio rebalance, so precious metals currently around 0.2% of my portfolio.
I refuse to buy crypto, for a variety of reasons that I don't see a need to get into as I don't want to yuk someone's yum, but I hold the wisdomtree Blockchain etf which invests in companies involved in crypto, about 4-5% of my total portfolio (reducing it to 2-3%), it's gone absolutely nuts, up 117% in 6 months.3 -

Crpyto seems like a scam to me. Very volatile (I guess like Trump!) And i don't fully understand what it is to be frank. That said i did meet someone at a party who made £2m from it before most of us had heard of it. He's cashed in and has retired off of it.0 -

Agree on Crypto. I met a guy who made $2m, stayed in too long and lost it all. For every winner, there's several losers, and the winners are much louder than the losers!4 -
Think of crypto like digital assets (a digital gold etc). Iirc FCA have relaxed their rules so you can now begin to invest in regulated bitcoin products with your SIPP and stocks and shares isa. Think it’s worth having small exposure to tbh.

I don't think it's a good idea to think about crypto in that way. Gold has intrinsic value. It is used to make jewellery and similar which retain or increase their value over time.Diebythesword said:Think of crypto like digital assets (a digital gold etc). Bitcoin is just a name. As is Melaniacoin, Turdcoin, etc. And please don't tell me it's a currency. When did you last buy something with bitcoin? And if you did buy something, was the item something you want to fess up to on a public platform?4 -
