I haven't seen them since some 'alternative' royal wedding (Charles and Di) thing at Crystal Palace bowl
  • Is this the thing for which I saw a poster in the Long Pond ? Stray and Focus among the other names? Thought I had transported back to 72 and was looking at the upcoming programme at the Black Prince. Wish I had known, flying back today :-(

Think Focus are playing on the north kent coast Aug 6th,my favorite Dutch band.

Saw Buster Bloodvessel along with Madness at The Camden Lock in 1979.

Wouldn't have been me mate. I was still worrying about whether I could safely order a light and bitter without being asked my age. And far too young to make an impression on @Fanny Fanackapan , obviously. :-))

Is this version of Focus led by Jan Akkerman, then? Loved them. But my favourite Dutch band is Golden Earring, all day long.

I wa there, too. Then saw them again that evening at Hammersmith Odeon. Last saw them last year where they played my friend's birthday party. Chaz is still THE MAN on bass.

Be still, my beating heart. I think I need a lie down with a cold flannel on my forehead.

No I believe this is the version led by Thijs Van Leer. And I believe that they are going to be playing in October at that stadiums of all stadiums - The Beaverwood Club in Chislehurst!!!
  • the incomparable Chaz Jankel .. a relatively unrecognised genius of Brit Rock and Jazz .. would love to see the Blockheads one more time

NO Thijs van Leer is the main man ,the guy who plays the keyboards.

Seen Jan Akkerman afew times he has his own band now and if you get the chance to see him play well worth the money.Still one of the best.

As for Fanny Fanackapan before my time also but none of us have a choice when we are born.Had good times in Black Prince in the seventies and bet the sixties would have been just as good.

It occurred to me that my comment could have been miconstrued. @Fanny Fanackapan is I think only a couple of years older than me but in the ultra-ageist environment of teenage Britain, it would have been fatal for my prospects. Especially being short :-) She would have looked through me as if I wasn't there.

Funny enough it all goes into reverse. My best man who was here in Prague remembered going home for the weekend and visiting the Atlantic in Soho. In his early 40s, he said he felt like a ghost. All the 20 something girls were similarly looking right through him. Fortunately in Central Europe, these rules don't apply :-)

Anyway, thread creep. Anyone go on Sunday, anyone see Focus?

I think you mean Norman on bass.

Still playing for both the Blockheads and ex Blockhead Wilko, as well as his own band.

Chaz a keyboard and rhythm man.

And as with the rest of the blockheads, one of the nicest guys in the business.

Stray!! Now, that's a blast from the past. I know I liked them but can't remember what the fuck they did. I'll have to Spotify them to see what I can dig up.

I warmly recommend the entire "Saturday Morning Pictures" album. Stands the test of time.
