We're middle of the road. Neutrals will always say the same things about us ('I remember when you were in the PL, Curbs etc') but most won't know too much about what's happened in the last 10 years or so.
We are actually the epitome of middle tier professional football club
Nope... There are two type of Football club in this Country.
The Elite: The ones who are always going to be in the Premier League because they can attract the best players with the amount of wealth that they can splash around... (Arsenal / Chelsea / Liverpool / Man Utd / Man City etc.)
Everyone Else: This is the bracket that all other clubs fall into, every now and again they'll have success which'll see a number of years in the top flight possibly or they'll go on a cup run (maybe even win some silverware) but they're still only one owner away or one relegation away from mediocrity... Its for this reason I just ignore the success that Pal-arse have had recently, like us in the early 2000s, it'll end!!
The only thing massive about Charlton at the moment is the mess the club is in.
Overall I've never considered us as a 'massive' club and personally I prefer it that way. Growing that big just attracts the prawn sandwich brigade and glory boys IMO?
I think mid-table in the 2nd tier is our "natural" level if there is such a thing. In London, Arsenal/Chelsea/Spurs are at the top of the food chain, we are somewhere in the middle with Fulham/Nigels/QPR etc...
Big team in 3rd tier, normal sized in 2nd (and small in 1st) - which translates to the following new joiner cliches from players...
3rd - Massive club, step up, shouldn't be down here 2nd - Great history, remember the prem years, want to get them back up and relive those days 1st - Pfff... Don't need to worry about this one
