What would change your mind on renewing?

  • RD selling.

KM moving on would be a nice moment for us all but long term with RD in charge it's irrelevant, he takes the slack off himself and can hide from it all by diverting the anger towards others. There would soon be another clueless CEO.

But can he/she be any worse? That would take a monumental effort on next incumbent who takes on the role

    This and only this.

For me there's far more to it than whether we have an English manager, how much control he has and how decent the recent signings have been.

I joined the protests because I want an ownership that genuinely cares about football. An ownership that want's the best for Charlton. An ownership that can be open about its motives, because its motives are at one with what the fans want. An ownership that is basically decent and honest.

However good Slade is and however good the new signings turn out to be, we still have arrogant, disingenuous owners whose interests in football are limited to proving some weird micro-economic theory that would elevate Roly's imagined public status to that of far-sighted, financial genius.

They have never apologised for the damage they have done. They have never publicly stated what they need to do differently, despite frequent lamentations that lessons need to be learnt. They have never properly acknowledged that they are responsible for our club's recent demise. Instead they prefer to play the victim and blame others. They have never distanced themselves from player-farming, sub-standard networking or their ludicrous view of football in which the fans have nothing more than a minimal walk-on part. They have never acknowledged that the "fan's" sofa, the imposed cheerleaders or the demeaning sex on the the pitch advert were awful ideas out of sync with the culture of our club. They have never tried anything to build bridges with the fans. They have never retracted their public attacks on fans, their lies about weird meaning unique or the allegation of fan-racism. An allegation that is particularly disgusting given Roly's weird Eurocentric comments that don't take too much sensitivity to be construed as anti-asian racism. Duchatelet has never recognised that winning is important.Meire has never taken back her comments regarding the unimportance of the club's history. With each and every new signing they cynically publish player quotes praising ridiculous liar Katrien Meire......

    Excellent summary:

Re section in bold. CAST have demanded that Katrien Meire apologise for stating that she didn't care about the history of the club by way of an open statement on the OS before Wednesday. That is not going to happen of course in which case steps will be taken to seek the revocation of Meire's prestigious award from KU Leuven which she received as a result of her appointment as CEO of Charlton.

Notable that Ricky Holmes who has been at the club only 5 minutes and in his first press interview stated at the outset "The club's got great history".

Meire had been in post as CEO for about 18 months when she stated in Belgium "I don't care about the history of the club"

Trust takes time to build. Duchatelet and Meire have shown little respect over 2 +1/1 seasons and stomped on that trust, grinding it into the ground to dust. It will time and evidence of sensible decision making and player dealings before I believe the corner has been truly turned.

Purchase of a couple of appropriately experienced players, before off loading the decent ones, leaving a bare cupboard is a start. As is the manager appearing to have a larger measure of control.

There's a long way to go.

Do you think Slade has a "large measure of control"? I am not saying that he doesn't. But I haven't seen enough yet to make me think he has.
Too early to say how much control Slade has @Chizz. Slade appears to have a larger measure of control than the other head coaches, (in being able to identify and go after appropriate UK experienced targets) but that is not saying much. This doesn't clash with Duchatelet's apparent change of strategy for this season.

Slade did got rid a lot of the big earners at Cardiff City. This season at Charlton is much the same. Currently Duchatelet & Slade are likely to be on the same page. Slade is facilitating Duchatelet's wishes of the likely reduction of the big earners and players attracting big fees in the squad. Slade looks like he may be in charge of the rebuild. Trouble may come later if they disagree. There is only one winner in that discussion.
  • If I could get a seat next to Colin and scoops straight from the horses mouth.......

    I still wouldn't renew
  • New owners
  • New manager and a couple of new players? That doesn't cut it or make up for all the other shenanigans.

Well, last summer we had a new(ish) manager and a number of new signings.

I mean no disrespect to Holmes and Novak but I know next to nothing about them. In a similar way, I knew absolutely nothing about the likes of Sarr and Bergdich last summer.

In fact, after the opening weeks of last season everything seemed fairly hunky-dory, didn't it? (Even my misgivings, having watched the PSFs at Southend and Chelmsford had largely washed away.)

So, we pretty much know that a lot of our more useful players will be leaving. Some of these we, as supporters, would wish to keep. They will need competent replacements if we are to have any chance of competing at L1 level.

In short, then, I'd love to be able to renew. But Meire, her boss and the still strong risk of another season of appalling incompetence and mediocrity on the pitch, makes the concept of renewing my season ticket a truly unappetising prospect.
  • League 1 football at championship prices ain't too appetising neither, even if there was no regime issue.

  • I'm not about to renew, but to be fair the initial signings HAVE been positive. There's a difference between signing players who have done it in English football at our level, and players from abroad with no English experience.

Initial signs suggest Slade is building a team rather than a selection of random signings and punts on promising youngsters. Early days of course.
  • We will not buy season tickets until RD, KM and RM are gone. RD is an arrogant dictator, who despite whatever is written in a contract or said publicly will be unable to leave it alone. He will be interfering from afar. RM is a blatent liar and RM is only after his children's inheritance.

The appointment of an English manager and a couple of English players is a sop to appease angry fans, and the regime probably think they have achieved that. This is too little far too late...............

    Keep up the protests.
  • I agree the initial signings have been positive.

And if we keep other key players, that will be even more positive, and it will mean we go to more home games, but not a season ticket.

    Not this season.
  • ROLAND OUT.

    You know it makes sense.
  • Katrien leaving (resigning or sacked, I don't care) as a minimum.

    Roland selling up, ideal.
  • At the least, I'll only consider renewing once Meire has gone *AND* a sensible replacement has been appointed, although the preferable option would be for Roland to sell up and bugger off.
  • I was adamant that I would not renew all the while RD was the owner of the club, however on reflection I realised I didn't want to break with CAFC and so renewed last week. I fully support others who have not and the reasons why but given that we "appear" to be changing tack a bit (time will tell) I decided to give it a go.
  • I watched the ticker tape go across the screen

"Ched Evans signs for League One Club ... " "Oh god please no!"

    "Ch .........!" Noooooo!! "esterfield" Phew!!

I would have chnaged my mind on renewing!

    My view as well
  • Not giving them money is clearly working. If it wasn't, then I don't think these incomings and outgoings would have happened. No point buckling now.

As long as we have less than 7000 season tickets sold come the opening day I'll consider that a big f*** off to the Belgians.
  • If you have not already signed up, stay strong, and wait until the season is about to start.

Please, no excuses now. You will just being selfish. No need to rush, there will be a seat for all.

That's one for the 'Things The Board Have Done Right' thread:

    1. Re-laid the pitch
    2. Put some shiny new seats in
    3. Haven't signed Ched Evans (yet)

  • More good signings, no significant departures and a new CEO who understands football and the English Football League
Appointment of Slade and some decent signings will get me back on a match by match basis.
  • I'm one of the ones who would have renewed even if we had appointed nobby vinegar and signed a load of reserves from Alcacorn and Upjset.

That might seem like I'm supporting the regime but I honestly see it as I would just support the team through thick and thin.

I certainly cannot blame anyone voting with their feet but I just want us to do well.
  • When I answer my phone and a little voice on the other end says " Heads up Ray, they've only gone and fecked right off and taken the pillsbury doughboy with them"
  • New ownership that wants to engage with us
