SLP reporting that we're going to counter their 'two fingers up' reply to our 150,000 bid with.......... 200,000. That'll show em

Thats fair enough... If we offer £500k straight up for Moncur then Colchester will think that we can offer more so would have rejected that no doubt, they're simply going to try and squeeze out the best deal that'll be the best for their club

Expecting Colchester to reject a bid of £150,000.01 and for Meire to then issue a statement telling us they tried to break the bank but couldn't because the nasty fans haven't renewed their season tickets.

so let me get this right

we criticise the club's management because they don't recruit Britsh players and coaches plus the season has ended and they are doing nothing about preparing for next season

    so who

    * tried to recruit Wilder a Britsh coach but failed as he would rather join the club
he has supported since a boy.
    * trying to recruit Moncur, a British midfielder, who we tried to recruit last season
    * organised what looks like a good pre season in Austria.

now I want to see KM and her team go but someone there is trying to do something right.

    Fwiw I agree
Wouldn't disagree that someone is trying to do something right, but obviously something is wrong if their efforts are failing. That surely is the criticism.

If you would be inclined to praise a man because he's trying to stop beating his wife i guess you will be happy that he's trying to do something right even if he might beat his wife any moment.

Some of us want to see something right being done rather than accepting someone "trying" to do something right and always failing.

  • He is now a L2 player though.

That's like saying Gudmundssen is a third division player. He's not, is he?

Moncur has already proved himself in League 1 and will find another club at that level.

This is a rare case of paying peanuts and not getting Moncurs....

    Now that's good

Not saying we should but if we offered them 500k we would currently be talking to Moncur about wages, they are holding out for more then 150k because they know they can get more from us or if not another League 1 club.
  • as far as I am aware he has already spoken to Barnsley although no fee has been agreed with Colchester. I assume he had their permission though. Would suspect he is waiting to see if they get promoted or not before deciding.

Bit like Ebay isnt it when you get someone sending a PM asking if you'd accept an offer on an item rather than going through the auction... Do you accept it or do you run the risk of rejecting and praying that the item doesnt go for less than the offered amount.
  • Just think how much we would have saved if we put in a low bid for Naby Sarr

  • £150k was an opening gambit. Every club does similar. Charlton will have an upper figure and Colchester will have a lowest. I'm not sure what people are expecting.

I think too many fans think that Football Manager 20xx is no different to the real world these days.

Especially when it comes down to Transfers as there is just no patience

I agree but not sure why they need to play it out in public via the SLP

Do your business in private and you won't get laughed at if and when it goes wrong. See Wilder.

Play it all out in public to keep the media and fans happy (yeah) then expect to get pilloried when it goes wrong. See Wilder.

    "We've learn't from our mistakes"
Is it Colchester putting it out into the open though...? They're going to want clubs to get into a bidding war.

    Charlton wont

P.S. Keeping it quiet wont keep the fans quiet as too many will presume that nothing is being done

SLP saying Charlton will go in with another bid today.

Now, Colchester can't know that and they are not likely to use the SLP to leak stuff

The lack of patience is due to how desperate a club we are currently, we seem to want a decent League 1 player, so lets get the deal done before one of our rivals who are not in turmoil swoops in a steals him from under our noses.

Yeah cos fans jumping up and down is going to make Moncur sign quicker!!

Not really... thats only going to mean we can talk to George...

He then may want to review all options before signing for someone
  • Okay you win, well done Roland and Katrien, keep up the good work, what will get us out of League 1 is releasing names to the press telling of us almost signing decent british players and managers.

Do you watch football? Making negatives out of nothing. Any other owner and people would be happy with this. Hate the regime but my good take some good news when it comes.

I am honestly not, I am just disappointed to see how any fans fall for it once again.

I hate this, I want our club to finally turn a corner but an actual one, not just words to the press that make it seem like we are.

If they get Moncur signed up and if they get a respected lower league manager signed up then I will say well done but they have done neither yet and I am fully expecting Moncur to be playing for another League 1 club next season, with the story coming out of our club being that he was greedy etc, so we had to play a 17 year old from our academy or recruit a young star of the future from the dutch 2nd tier.

Absolutely but I wonder if there is an attitude by the club that a little to eager to please.

  • Any manager would be happy to have Moncur in his squad and it's a nonsense to suggest otherwise.

When you say 'Any Manager' is Pep Guardiola, as we speak, lining up a bid of £50m?

Apologies, I assumed Lifers would understand that I was talking about a League 1 manager & not Champions League managers.
  • Standby for a Belgian veteran on a short-term deal again. I'll believe it when I see it.
  • Any manager would be happy to have Moncur in his squad and it's a nonsense to suggest otherwise.

why is it? Whomever we appoint may identify a player in League 1 or 2 who he'd prefer and whom he thinks is better. Moncur would then be a bit part player, and unhappy. If we appoint a Manager who does want Moncur then great go for it but I can't see the point in signing someone who may immediately be surplus to the Manager's requirements. Plus it drives a coach and horses through the 'the Manager will have total control over transfers' mantra we keep hearing. Get a Manager, let him get the players HE wants.
The point is, Moncur is a very decent League 1 player and therefore League 1 managers should be happy to have him as part of the squad, as a preference to let's say Pigott as an example.

Whether Moncur was a regular first teamer or a squad member will depend on how he performs.

I agree that it is preferable for the manager to select his own players, but we don't have a manager.

I'd rather we sign some proven League 1 players, if we can, rather than wait until we appoint a new manager and they've all been snapped up & we are left with the equivalent options of Roger Johnson.
