What's happening? Have we actually got a new manager? Is he good? Is he non-network? Will he get us promoted? Will he bring back some old Charlton players?

No. None on that. What's happening is that people are getting suckered in again, hoping that this might be a turnaround point for the club. It is not. The problems with our club are with the very foundations: Doolally Duchatelet and Maladroit Meire. It doesn't matter who we get in. As long as the regime is in place, the most we can hope for is a temporary blip in playing-fortunes. We need to focus on getting them out, not hopelessly imagining that they might get something right.

    This absolutely.
  • Bristol City are a very well run club, good owner who invests top to bottom and wants them to be a multosports club. Cotterill won't get any of that at Charlton.
  • Difference between wilder and cotterill is that wilder was in a position to play clubs against each other and be demanding, if it didn't work he would have gone back to Northampton, cotterill is out of work and has less bargaining power. This will be very attractive to Rolland.

    It's a job though!

Realistically, Cotterill won't get offered any jobs in the Championship now, so he'll be looking at L1 positions, and we have a vacancy...

Under any regular proper owner I would be really pleased with Cotterill and be thinking we can bounce straight back but under the Belgians & their football dealings I am expecting him to be gone by the end of October so we can watch a couple more network no marks fail to stop us dropping down in to the lowest tier our club has ever played in.

I hope he and any other British manager with knowledge of the lower leagues knocks them back as you never know, might force Roland out even sooner so we have a better chance of success next season.

I've heard that we are in talks with Cotterill and are quite close to doing a deal. Wait till the OS and all that though. Good source though

If you say we are talking to Cotterill, then I'm confident we are, as you have contacts.

I've never been a great fan of his, but at least he fits the bill.

An English manager who knows both League 1 and The Championship.

He got Bristol C promoted as champions, so we know he has done the business.

However, he had more money for players at Bristol, than he will likely get at Charlton, but any other alternative, won't get greater resources.

Finally, it seems few managers are a constant success and succeed or fail for often no apparent reasons. So there are no guarantees, with a lot of the plausible options.

    We shall see.
  • I wouldn't mind seeing some 3-5-2 with over 5 players reaching double figures for goals.

    Yes please!

Is he being interviewed by Tony Testicle or Mandy Rice-Davies ?
It's really worrying that we have people with very little knowledge of football in key positions .
For example who was recommending that we sign George Moncur ? Maybe it could have been that good judge Richard Murray .

  • Just remembered we've got lots of vacant key positions .
  • He won't be the same manager that got City up. That bloke went about building a promotion campaign, hand picking players and working on the structure of the club. The bloke we'll be getting won't have to worry about all those little details. Already taken care of.
  • I think cotterrill is a decent shout for this level but should we be looking at this level.put on another thread would like Gary monk but Are we ambitious enough.steve Clarke I've said before but then when you read on other threads we can't afford Texiraes wages for next season and 6 players have to leave what's point doesn't matter what manager they get we will be going nowhere.

I don't disagree but Monk & Clarke have no experience/knowledge of league 1 AFAIK.

Personally think Clarke is a number 2 at best. Monk I should imagine will get a Championship job.

Possible at CAFC under this regime? You decide.

Good read that. Talks a good game and he backs it up. BUT, it keeps coming back to him, or any manager, getting the backing of the board and being allowed control over incoming and outgoing players. Which Katrien Meire and Roland won't give up despite failing at player recruitment over and over again.
  • I would have had SC over Wilder any day of the week

    Me too.

Sir Chris walked this league with us last time around...

Reassuring to read that he has Conference experience. We could well need that in the next few years.

Interesting article, and I think he'd be a good choice. Someone I wouldn't mind being left in place when Roland sells up.
  • Whoever we get in signing that Matt Taylor guy from Bristol Rovers would be a good start to player recruitment.

Very true but I'm sure we will have a lot of competition.

Very true but I'm sure we will have a lot of completion.

you'd have thought so but someone on their message board, claiming yo be in the know, says the best offer still on the table is 3k per week from Hearts who flew him up in January and tried to sign him then. Peterborough also very interested.
