Hope he gets interviewed and knocks us back. Might just push Roland into thinking it's not all worth it.

Didn't he do this previously before Murray did his Dowie headhunting?

Vaguely remember Murray talking him up at a Bromley meeting.

Just goes to show the appointment of Dowie wasn't the sole mistake made by Murray at the time. It was compiling his short list of replacements for Curbs at the time when we were a mid table Premier League team yet looked like he had compiled a shortlist of Championship calibre managers when you include Davies and Dowie and i'm being generous to Dowie there too.
  • Would love the return of SCP.

    Pritch
    Hollands
    Waggy
    Wilson
    Taylor
    Wood

    Just like the old days.
  • He's probably just using us so he can get the managers job at a well run club.....somewhere like Vauxhall Motors.
  • Next Permanent Manager Caretaker and interim managers completing at least 10 competitive games will be deemed the permanent manager

    Nebojsa Vignjevic 5/4
    Simon Clark 4/1
    Steve Cotterill 6/1
    Nigel Adkins 10/1
    Paul Lambert 14/1
    Dougie Freedman 14/1
    Chris O'Loughlin 16/1
    Jason Euell 16/1
    Juan Ramon Lopez Muniz 16/1
    Chris Powell 16/1
    Malky Mackay 20/1
    Gary Johnson 20/1
    Uwe Rosler 20/1
    Steve Evans 25/1
    Michael Appleton 25/1
    Curbs 25/1
There are some decent managers on that list. Lambert would be my choice if he had control. After what Powell's been saying, more chance of Leicester winning the Premier league
  • I would take Gary Johnson . He's got plenty of teams promoted and would have lots of contacts in the game.
  • Gary Johnson is an appointment that can work one way or the other. If you could have any manager you would probably want one who could get the fans onboard (what a task that would be!), has shown he can create a squad in a summer for relatively small funds that can storm League One and one who is popular with players and well spoken. That is in a perfect world, of course it is asking too much to see such a man on that list.......Oh hang on a minute!

He's also had plenty of disasters too... Peterborough / Northampton / Yeovil (second time) werent great
  • I know, I know its from Colin but he must get something right sometime. He says we are interested in the Bristol Rovers manager. He's taken them from the Conference to League One and is young and ambitious so fit's the bill.

Does he have the experience that KM mentioned yesterday though?

To be honest I'd prefer someone young / ambitious and British to someone who has been constantly recycled
  • this is regarding us talking to Wilder -

'Whilst Charlton are obviously a much bigger club than Northampton I am not sure if it would be wise to go there with the current owners who every fan is against. Could turn into another Blackpool'

from a Bristol Rovers forum !!

  • and further down same thread -

'Wilder to Charlton' is off. Next, presumably, is 'Appleton to Charlton.'

    LOL.

But do they have the photo?
  • Take Lambert all day long off that list. A bit dour maybe but a good record from his previous clubs. Unfortunately just can't see him joining the circus and working for these clowns!!!!
  • Bristol Rovers manager or Bristol City manager?
Only one way to find out. Fiiiiggght

Ah yes, fits the mould perfectly. Give him a 5 year deal and after one season sell him to Liverpool for a profit. ;)
  • A good friend of mine is Bristol City fan. He reckons he is a good League One manager who plays very attacking football, which is great when you're winning by 3 or 4 but you'll have to accept there will be times when you lose by 3 or 4 too. He thinks he would be decent for us, at this level anyway, knows how to build a side to get out of the division, but says we'd have to replace him if we got promoted as he doesn't believe he can cut it in the Championship.

Strongly favours 3-5-2 as well so needs a couple of good wing backs!
Waggy and Harriot it is then
    please not

Waggy's brief sub appearance suggested nothing had changed, on a road to nowhere.

Both need to know you don't score goals by running towards the corner flag every time you get the ball. Cut in or cross early.

Running forwards towards the corner flag? Whatever next, there no good for us we must have backwards and sideways merchants so that we can get to appreciate the full matchday experience :open_mouth: .

We all know Wagstaff is Henry's secret lovechild, but when it comes to playing football he is a headless chicken!

He hardly started when City were in L1, why on earth would we want him back, he's shite!

Think Colin got the Bristol Rovers link from a post Reams made on into the valley last week. Our board are unlikely to know anything about him so it will be interesting to know who is advising them if it materialises. I imagine their recruitment strategy for a manager is a bit like their strategy for obtaining players when the manager used to just let them know the type of player they required and they ran a champ manager style search to find the answer.

In this case it would be: manager, british (to keep fans happy), disciplinarian, cheap salary (L1 or lower or unemployed) and low buy out clause.

    Chris O'Loughlin it is then.

    Ticks all the boxes.
  • The Bristol rovers guy has got something like 5 promotions in 6 years, sounds impressive on paper but...... The non league team he managed got relegated 3 leagues for financial irregularities (I think) but kept the same squad for three years hence three easy promotions.

Bristol rovers are far too big for the conference and struggling league 1 is their level. Another two easy promotions. My point is that he hasn't been tested yet, a bit like guardiola, if you manage Barcelona, Munich and man c, you win trophies purely because of the resources at these clubs. Would he have won the premier league with Leicester?

I would rather not, too nutty for me.

Funny you should say that, my BCFC supporting friend says he has anger issues.
    ANGER ISSUES,MY LOVER.

AFTER THE LAST TWO YEARS OF DOUCHEBAG AND KAT

ALL CAFC FANS HAVE ANGER ISSUES (EXCEPT COLIN)

And relax, take happy pills and think of Mickey Gray
running up to take that Penalty..............

Running towards the corner flag, waisting time. OK if Watt does it though.
  • When do the players return from holiday? When must we have a manager by?
  • When do the players return from holiday? When must we have a manager by?

It's not just the players we have. I want a manager appointed to help inform the players we sign. The quicker we get the right man the better.
  • Hard to take anybody with a Bristol accent seriously*.
Sounds like everybody's default impression of a country yokel.

Having said that, arsey Steve is probably the best we are going to get in our current predicament.

    (*only kidding)

I'm actually warming to the idea of Steve Cotterill. Won the league fairly easily when he last managed at that level and also won the JPT in the same season. Of course he was allowed to manage his way and sign the players he wanted. Made some really good signings as well....I guess I've just ruled him out!
  • I've heard that we are in talks with Cotterill and are quite close to doing a deal. Wait till the OS and all that though. Good source though
