Wilder probably didn't know too much about our plight until the past few days. He agreed to meet. Fine. Problem for Duchatelet is that Wilder's got plenty of contacts in the game who have had dealings with us in the last couple of years.
It's slowly unraveling to him what a basket case club we are.
He knew, he was fully appraised of the situation late last week.
Appraised by whom?
Meire,Murray....?
not going to give names but ex-Charlton people. Looks like he took it on board but thought he'd explore the opportunity anyway and see where it leads.
Quite a bit of times past between approach, announcement and now 'official talks' reckon there's more to it than the protests etc. more than likely to do with the contract that they've likely offered him, guessing it won't be more than a year and he won't be pleased with having to be from Sheffield for the sake of a short contract. Let's just hope someone's in Roland/ Katriens ear telling them to get this done. It really is their last chance to get anything out of this ownership, if he wants to make any money he needs to get us up. Getting some other puppet from Belgium (or Hungary) just won't do it. Really hope not but got a feeling they'll announced Nobby in the next few days with the same old 'we've spoke to a few mangers and couldn't get a deal done' excuse. Wouldn't even surprise me.
Imagine being a football man all your life, played the professional game, spent time and money on obtaining coaching badges, won a league title and you're trying to take your career to the next level.

So are you saying that some ex-Charlton people appraised Wilder of the situation at the club in an attempt to dissuade him?
Personally don't want him to sign. Can't be arsed with him coming in, doing well, fans buying season tickets and the regime sticking around for longer all for it to go pear shaped again if we go back up. Feels 'unique' saying that but my minds made up about them. No way back.
I don't get why they would announce they're in talks on the OS. Why not just wait til the deal's done?
Because we don't have a competent CEO and or Head of Comms. If we had either we might have told Northampton we didn't want any publicity but instead they let NTFC call the shots.

Old Shoestring/Shoetape was hoping to have got his little flat built above the club shop for the managers merry-go-around, that will put an end to pesky problems like these, as long as any new managers don't mind sharing with Carol on his many laptop-scouting trips back....

I'm saying that Wilder spoke to a couple of people who are fully aware of the situation for their opinion/input. What they told him I am not privy too but I very much doubt it was in any way complimentary of the regime.
My feelings was the Northampton chairmen released the statement with the intention of hoping CW would reconsider.
By confirming to the media he could be leaving, he has been openly ridiculed on social media about taking this job.
After NTFC released their statement Charlton had no choice but to release one aswell.
Think they were released at the same time. Since Northampton don't want him to leave, I can't see what leverage Charlton had, especially as the earlier approach was well known.
@Airman Brown just a thought but what is the position for those that have bought season tickets in the hope they will learn (yeah right) and might want to cancel them shortly if Nobby is made coach?
(Disclaimer) I haven't bought one just wondered on the legality of it.
Contract length and an agreement with Alan Knill are the main things I've seen mentioned. Easy to speculate over control over transfers etc. but I'd think the talks would have ended a hell of a lot quicker if that was the case.
You think Charlton wrote and approved a statement in 3/5 minutes? Doesn't work like that. They will have been agreed in advance between the clubs.
But if ours contains copied/pasted sections, then at best the clubs colluded in their statements or ours was modified afterwards?
They will have agreed to put out statements, spoken to each other and one followed the other. There's no way the comms staff just reacted to Northampton or that Meire wasn't involved.

Wilder would have been well aware that there are major issues at the club before he even expressed interest in the post, even if just watching the C5 Football league show! It's hardly a secret that there have been a succession of obscure Head Coaches, or that there were major fan protests happening.
Our club is a joke. Owners and staff are so out of their depth in anything they do! They probably want him on years rolling contract so he doesn't have to be paid a lot of compensation if they sack him all about money with Roland.

Then you meet KM.

If you compare statements ours is copied and pasted from theirs.
Northampton best asset is transparency and that is our weaknesses.
IMO that strategy makes total sense.
Something to do with Roland not wanting to hand over control of transfers to the new manager?
