RD knows the score, this is all mind games. What do you expect him to tell the Belgium press "thank you for your questions, yes Charlton fans are protesting in thousands about the way I run the club and season ticket sales are down"
Only Charlton Athletic could be bought by a self-made successful half Euro-billionaire and within 48 months turn into an absolute Jabberwocky jelly cluster fuck of a football club.
I watched the History of Charlton video posted on another thread here with a lump in my throat and a deal of pride. But, add this little chapter to it and i can safely say there are more ups and downs in our history than in a 70's porno and WE are going down for the last time, hold your breath and think of England lads n lasses!

I still wonder just how well aware he is of the situation.
I wouldn't expect him to be openly honest about the numbers, but I would expect him to play the politicians game of lying via omission - i.e "Yes, there have been a few protests at Charlton - I'm not sure of the exact numbers. It's a frustrating situation for those fans who are on the inside trying to enjoy the game, of which there were many more than outside protesting! Hopefully next season we can rebuild fan relationships and continue with our model of sustainability.".
That he instead opted to state an outright false number suggests he was either lying or woefully misinformed. The Belgian regime may be rife with liars, and Roland may not be the most trustworthy of men to own a football club, but a liar (to the press, in Belgium, on an easily disputable fact) is not something I had him down as.

Don't tell anyone, but it was within 24 months that the transformation was complete, the relegation merely confirmed it.
He's not deluded. He knows damn well what's going on. As far as he's concerned its his money, its his football club and all the ungrateful peasants can bugger off. He just doesn't give a shit and is happy to tell big fat lies to the press.
I reckon it is this. You don't often make a massive fortune being a deluded cretin, but there are plenty of examples of unscrupulous autocratic egotistical pricks who don't give a damn about anyone else who do make a huge pile.
He was misquoted, what he meant was that he doesn't do failure by halves.
To call what Roland has achieved so far 'failure' doesn't do it justice - it's like saying that Howard Marks (RIP) enjoyed a bit of a smoke every now and then
Roland doesn't do failure, he does unmitigated f***ing disasters
We all know he's tool, that's a given. And like all rich egotists, the assumes whatever he says will be taken as gospel.
But I cannot help but wonder what he is being told about the protests. He knows they are happening, but I would not rule it out if Squirrel Face is feeding him the line that it's a few hundred, perhaps a thousand, malcontents? After all, he's only seen a few in Belgium and a handful on his (rare) visits. That doesn't explain the beach balls or the chants, admittedly ...
This is just a demonstration (excuse the pun) of how detached from the situation our absentee owner is. I find it truly amazing that he can trot this garbage out and think anyone really believes it. My major concern is that we could be owned by a person who's mental faculties are not exactly 100% god knows what that means for the future.

if I was the owner of a company/club or whatever, I'd make damn sure I was fully aware of the level of discontent, numbers involved and what the issues were.
if he does not know the full extent of the protests, it would represent another damning indictment of his ownership because to not know would be nothing short of criminal for a man in his position.
maybe he buries his hand in the sand because he wouldn't want to think for a moment that his experiment has been a spectacular failure. but he is a successful businessman so surely he's had to deal with failure in the past and front up to it.
the more this goes on, the more I actually think of him as a weak individual because he never faces up to what is glaringly obvious, what the issues are, what has gone wrong.
Meire, Murray, Keohane et al are all complicit.
but it all goes back to Duchatelet.
he is the owner, he hires the SMT, he ultimately decides policy.
and if he has to hide behind the incompetence which is rife throughout our club, then he is an even weaker indiviual than I give him any credit for.
If he's just repeating information he's been fed, ie does actually think it's 2% because that's what he's been told by the person he's paying to provide him with reliable information about how the business is going, then presumably the next trip to ST will feature sufficient leaflets, photographs, links to websites and the like to give him the opportunity to see that it's not a minority, it's the majority. 5,000 marched on the club last home game. Maybe if he had proper information, he'd realise that he had a dud CEO who needs to go for lying to him, and that the fans are not happy with either him or her. Maybe he is just so hands-off in his managerial style he genuinely doesn't know and is only seeing things through KM's rose-tinted specs: a situation which hopefully can be put right.

Sorry, I timeshifted to 2018 and we are now in the Conference...

So the answer is that it was a recycled quote from mid-November last year.
It wasn't true then and it isn't true now but it probably is not reflective of his current view and is lazy journalism.
