I spoke to Mel after The Bromley Supporters meeting ended on February 25th.

I explained that the attendees had been ever so nice and didn't really reflect the mood of the majority of supporters. I offered my opinion, that she could be the best Communications Manager in the world and still wouldn't be able to succeed, with RD & KM at the helm.

I met her again by invitation, 2 days later in The MIllenium Lounge, to "finish" our conversation.

Sorry guys, it looks like she has heeded my advice, after Roland no doubt ignored her/ her advice.

All the best to Mel. She seemed like a pleasant and efficient type, so she was never going to last.

    So what you're saying is....

The only time a senior member of staff has listened to a fan in the last 2 years she's only been there a couple of weeks, and the advice she listened too was to resign?! ;)

Fair play to her for giving you the opportunity of a second meeting though, a very decent courtesy when she must've already been aware of how the conversation was likely to end. Her attitude seemed spot on.
In fairness Sue Parkes kind of highjacked the conversation & Chris invited me to The Millenium Lounge.

(Possibly, he did it to get rid of me, assuming I'd decline).
Ah sue Parkes. Not seen any quotes from her of late.
Well I did prove her wrong over when Fraeye first appeared. (e -mails with the relevant parties to and from removed). She's been a bit quiet since.

    Still chance of a WouldYa?

Ok no. What a complete shambles our beloved club is. One stinking pile of doo doo after another and i am not including Ba in that!

Good luck Mel and thanks for the memories, hopefully you'll leave this all behind you and move on and up quickly. Us? Well we have no other choice but to live it for now so down the plug hole we go.
  • I asked her if she thought she would be able to sell Roland's "vision" at the Bromley meeting.

You could see the rueful look in her eyes even then.

The Roland statement pushed her over the edge it seems.

    Good for her.

I hope she finds somewhere to work that isn't a complete shambles.

@Swisdom you were telling us about all the good work she was doing eg the fans@ email address?

What are you views on this now? All happy on the good ship Charlton still?

    Back to Mel.

I met her a few times and she came to Bromley Addicks which was brave.

Seemed smart and genuinely wanted to listen to fans, knew she had walked into a mess but was trying to clear it up.

Now the person it took over two years to recruit has resigned after six weeks.

But everything is OK at Charlton.

Rantgate on its own it might have been enough to make her walk away.

Given the total mess and the incompetent fuckwits like Tony Cajones she had to work with it was just the final straw. Bloody big straw though.

Smart move to get out now and avoid a stain on her career so good luck to her.

Feel for Olly and the comms guys who yet again are left without a manager and short staffed. Don't worry, they'll be another Head of Comms along in 2018

Fully agree. Spent time with her on Monday. She knew what the problems were and was surprisingly but refreshingly candid. She was talking about positive change, taking control of the comms things that had gone dreadfully wrong. She knew Sunday's statement wouldn't be received well but felt it was important to acknowledge the protests with a degree of humility - although she had quite a battle to get it agreed. Then of course 2 days later...

    I wish her well.
Sounds like she was a solid pro by all accounts.
  • CARD's intention was to make the club unmanageable, think RD & KM are doing it for them. Hope you find a new job soon Mel and look back at your short time with Charlton as a defining point in your career.

Is that all? It's not even long enough to warrant the title "interim".

My CV will be on KM's desk in the morning, see if they got any positions available that would suit an ex shopkeeper.

Reckon I could do Comms and Safety at the same time as kicking the ball back when it goes down the tunnel

Where did you used to own a shop?
Down south in Grove Park, next t the BR station
But Rob you won't have enough time in the day what with the Admin job on CL that awaits you in the wings and a little bit of pest control, by the way how much to take out a big Rat?

    Top work
  • Should all try and get her along to a supporters meeting now, it would be very interesting.
  • I asked her if she thought she would be able to sell Roland's "vision" at the Bromley meeting.

The good news is Mel Baroni has been made Head of Comms for the
    opposition party in North Korea.

    Feisty one is our Mel.

Solid Pro with a track record of success and an understanding of the English game... We know those aren't popular at Charlton

Minutes applause at the next home game on 46min and chanting her name.

    Yeh, go with man_at_milletts suggestion;

    '46 days, you're having a laugh,
    46 days, you're having a laugh,
One Mel Boroni, there's only one Mel Baroni
One Mel Boroni, there's only one Mel Baroni'
  • Mel's resignation speaks volumes & tells us what we all knew already - "our" club is totally screwed (putting it politely).
  • You go out for a few hours and then log on just for a quick glance round to see the latest stupidity Squirrel face and Douchbag have been upto and see this!

Honestly, these two are the gift that keep giving.

Congratulations to Ms Baroni on getting out of this madhouse and fair play to her for having the balls to walk away when her advice was obviously ignored.
  • So ridiculously pleased about this. Well done Mel.

Dignified and Principled - it was never going to work.

Of course there are plenty of other decent people who work at Charlton, but there are fewer and fewer by the week, and it's a completely unattractive place to work.
