I admit to being a bit obsessed by their constant statements that repeat they care about club/fan relations, that they have plans in place, and they are all working very hard on this aspect of things. Philip old boy these are empty and hollow words. The actions such as they are are the opposite. Simply taking the last fortnight we have the Roland statement, the club and police statement, fan sponsors not being invited to the sponsors event, gates locked against fans, the club shop door closed in fans faces. These actions say a lot more than miserable words in emails. Philip I am assuming you're pretty useless at your job, if you actually do any work at all. Prove me wrong. Let's see some action.
We apologise about this, I have spoken to the relevant people and they remember this competition. They said that we can send you a signed programme as a prize if you would still like it. If so please send us your address and we can get that posted to you.
Best Regards The Supporter Relations Team
I can't really fault them on this although as far as memorabilia goes, Chris Powells signature is worth a lot more to me than most of the dross there at the moment.
I also really enjoy the mental image of some lad from a crisis management consultancy running around the CAFC office to try and find out if anyone remembers a Twitter competition from 2013 which had a signed Chris Powell mask as a prize.
You might want to doublecheck who the "signed programme" is signed by first...
Finally had a response to my 2 emails yesterday, sent them on the 16th and 17th March. Reply on April Fool's Day so I was suspicious but nothing vaguely amusing in them. Below:
'Thanks you for taking the time to get in contact with us at Charlton Athletic, and thank you for your kind words about John Little, which we will pass on to him. Apologies it has taken us longer than anticipated to reply to you. You will appreciate that we cannot talk matters of HR, employee matters are confidential. All of us at the club do know the important role that fans have played in the history of the club and its importance to generation of families. We all hope that we can remain in the Championship and rebuild for the future. We are listening to the feedback of the fans and will try to act upon constructive criticism.'
Not a single answer to my questions, cut and pasted as I expected, apart from the reference to John Little whom I asked them to pass on my thanks to for all his dedicated service at CAFC. No reference to the departure of Mel Baroni (who I also wanted to pass on best wishes to) or the 7 points/questions in my other email about the Roland Rant! Oh well, at least they replied and some poor person is having to type/cut and paste this unconvincing drivel as part of their job.
gates locked against fans, the club shop door closed in fans faces.
I would expect a proper manager to invite complaining customers inside for a face to face over a cup of tea in the board room to demonstrate real concern and real leadership not to hide away and piss them off more with threats.
I wrote the following e-mail on Friday and received this reply this afternoon. They still seem to be blaming Royal Mail for the season ticket debacle. Only replying to part of the e-mail.
Dear Sirs
I originally wrote to you on 16th March(see below) and I received a reply from Mandy Anderson-Myers(also see below), as yet the renewal form has not arrived, it would appear to me the glitch the club had at the time when this year’s season tickets were processed still exists. I was informed by Ms Anderson-Myers at that time that it was all the fault of Royal Mail as to why my season ticket had not arrived, this later turned out to be untrue, and the club had to make an apology, as it was the system at fault. Does this glitch still exist? as I would have expected the ticketing office staff would have worked very hard to ensure that the same debacle does not occur this year. Could you please check as to why I have not been sent an renewal form, or is it that Ms Meire no longer wants my patronage, being that I am the wrong side of 60, which I believe she stated in one of her press interviews.
Could you also advise if there will be a reduction in the season ticket prices in form of a rebate to those who renew before the deadline, if as it seem likely that the club will be relegated to Division 1, like Norwich City did a few years ago, to reward their loyal fans when they were in the same situation, as I do not see myself renewing at the prices on offer at the moment, to watch inferior football in a lower league.

Dear Mr
Thank you for your email. It has been confirmed by the mailing house that season ticket brochures have been posted, if you have not received a copy I will gladly send you one today. Regarding your comment regarding the loss of season cards for the 2015/16 season tickets. Charlton Athletic apologised as it was the correct and professional thing to do. All season cards left these premises with the appropriate post marking and time to be delivered. Royal Mail were unable to supply a suitable report to the lack of cards being delivered.
It is important that we work closer with fans. Plans have started on that already but in light of recent events we will need to put in place plans that can help repair trust between now and the start of the new season.
That IMO is an admission of guilt that they lied when posting multiple statements, including Duchatelet/Meire's ramble and that Duchatelet has met with certain groups of 'fans' potentially other things too.
Not sure Duchatelet will be happy seeing that.
How on earth are the planning to repair trust? Where would they even start? Just yesterday they issued a threatening statement. I guess they haven't started yet.

I don't think they can TBH.

So why do people keep firing questions at them - is it simply in the hope of a funny / inaccurate / erroneous response that they can post on here ?

Seems reasonable enough to me.
Though I'd hazard a guess that, for many, there are questions they've been asking for a while, without any kind of response, and now they want to see what is said.
What is disappointing is that so many "answers" have been formulaic and not actually addressed the questions.
Here, actually, was an opportunity to communicate with fans, but it has been poorly executed and is, probably, six months too late.

What is it you want to know ?
I was asking them to explain the misrepresentation of their 'early bird' season ticket offer and why they would be prepared to sell my seat to somebody else while I am still sitting in it this season. I guess its not one they can answer with their usual cut and paste platitudes.

Yippee! I got my reply today and thought I'd share. Edited for brevity and key points of note...
"Sorry it has taken us longer than we would have hoped to reply to you.....Fans being sad at not renewing their season ticket is not something we want to hear of and we hope you change your mind......We don't believe it's the case that the club is being run down. As you point out we do have one of the lowest wage budgets and we do try to operate within our means - and for good reason. Only last week we saw two Championship teams announce triple figure debt. The club has been in a perilous state because of its financial situation in recent memory and we will not risk the future of the club again....Recruitment has been a key issue, and the errors in this area is something that the club has acknowledged. Perhaps we were lulled into a false sense of security from a mid-table last season, when injuries did not take their toll in the way they have this season. The advantages of a settled team, with players coming back from injury, has been there to see recently in us picking up 10 points from 15......Regards the Academy players, first and foremost we want those players to be having long and distinguished careers with Charlton Athletic.....We remain ambitious. Like all clubs in the Championship we want to get into the Premier League, but it's first about being competitive in the Championship. Patently that has not been the case this season and we have to learn the lessons from it.....
Very polite and diplomatic. Acknowledging errors but no mention of any changes. Boasting of having one of the lowest wages bills in the division when you are going down is a bit hollow and it's lame blaming relegation on injuries. Good to hear about those Academy starlets of the future enjoying long and distinguished careers with us. Not sure that's quite how Katrien framed it. I wonder what action will be taken to make us competitive in the Championship next season?
It isn't a bad reply TBF. Better than the one they sent me. There is clearly some truth in what is being said, but the mistakes of January and February when something could have been done to address it shouldn't need learning - a village idiot could have spotted them at the time. Also the lack of cover in key positions was too simple an error for words. Why should I have any confidence they will learn from them when I have no trust or faith in their ability to do so. Unfortunately based on clear evidence.
The english grammar and phrasing on display in these messages is shocking. I'd be embarrassed-icated if my employees were sending out such poorly conceived drivel on our company's behalf. The club is rotten all the way through.

I have sent a follow-up naturally, as still keen to get a response to other bits they chose not to comment on eg why no statement about Mel's resignation and why two hugely contradictory 'messages to supporters' in only a few days after the Boro protests. I think we owe it to Phil the Contractor to keep him in gainful employment until the close season at least.
I've not yet written, but what concerns me most about these answers (except the ludicrous one about the Royal Mail from the oft-misinterpretated Mandy) is that there is absolutely nothing about plans to change the future. What's the point of acknowledging mistakes when they continue to do the same thing regardless? Who cares if they hope things will be better? Tell us what you're going to do, otherwise it's just platitudes.

But, by the same token, the email address was launched by the regime to encourage people to email it. You can hardly complain that fans have taken the opportunity.
I fully accept that responses would be, in some way, generic. However, my point was that the "answers" were too formulaic and did not address the questions. If I can help, what I am suggesting is that they are more generic than they need be - and I do not believe, from the evidence of the responses that I have seen that they demonstrate an example of questions "best responded to".
And, should you be able to demonstrate a way of getting a personalised response hand written in ink via email, I think you will have made your fortune...
What I believe those asking questions have been looking for is some indication that the regime understands and seeks to address fan concerns. Detailed responses to each question, while welcome, were never likely.

My response above did refer to judging them on actions rather than statements and went on to cite affordable football and family activities...
