But with two fighters it's all about creating hype to make people more interested in the bout. It's just a game and it has no major consequences. This guy has offered little but insults and smears for an entire campaign, then the second he's won he wants everything to be nicey-nicey. I'm sure he's no different to any politician in that, it's just that with Trump the hate and vindictiveness was so extreme that his kind valedictory speech rings even more hollow than usual. This presidential campaign has made for great entertainment, just like one of those big fights, but I can't help but think that the campaign to hold the most powerful position in the world should be more about policies than childish insults.

My wife (American with Latin family) is completely freaking out but I feel that Trump won't so much do anything awful (mass deportations, etc) as just be an enabler of casual racism which could make their lives difficult.
For me, one of the saddest things he promotes is a complete lack of empathy towards others, ie seeing all Syrian refugees as potential terrorists and all Mexicans as drug dealers and rapists. Complete lack of emotional intelligence.
Having his finger on the nuclear button at 3am the same way he is on Twitter is a scary thought.
It is clear that Trump's America First message was very sucessful but the idea that he will fight for the working class is risible.

Really? I see papers shouting right wing views daily, social media liberally coated in right wing views, but apparently they're silent? The UK is a centre/right country for the most part. For the majority of the last 40 years we've had either a right wing or centre government, and 5 of the top 6 selling national newspapers are right of centre.

I would argue that yes, a lot of the views in papers etc are quite right wing, especially in papers like The Mail, but then a lot of people will not state their views publicly, e.g. in a conversation on a forum like this, because of fear of being accused of all sorts of things. They privately hold them but won't publicly admit to them.
Put it this way, there are two extremes to immigration
1) Can't we just let everyone in? It's everyone's World after all? 2) Keep them all out, shut the borders and don't let anyone in.
One of those is a lot more of a controversial thing to say in public than the other, and then it is a sliding scale towards the centre from there. A lot of people are scared to state their opinions, and admit that they would vote Brexit, or admit they would vote Trump, because what they say will end up with them getting abuse.
Regardless of whether or not you agree with their views, democracy states they have a right to have them represented, and if the mainstream won't represent them, you get people like Trump and Farage coming in from the fringes.

Some poeple can't see past them and us, when ultimately they have to live in concencus. Queensland obviously can't see why such a polarising president might work against a nation already divided. I think part of the problem is that a large number of the people who are not scared to express their opinions are bigots and xenophobes - like Trump and Farage. They feign outrage get the vapours when it's pointed out what they are, but it's clear for all to see in many cases. The "gentle right" are lumped in with them by default, because they don't condemn such extremism. Or if they do condemn it, they in turn are labelled by those extremists as mad lefties! It works both ways.
