I find it utterly bizarre how in this day and age he didn't think about everything being saved for posterity, texts, internet searches etc.

This article is from 2006, though I believe the majority is still valid
Sex with an Under 13 is completely illegal and non consensual, with a potential life imprisonment
When the victim is 13 or over, but under 16, no offence is committed if the victim consents and the defendant believes, on reasonable grounds, that the child is at least 16.
So if in this case Johnson had believed and had good reason to believe that the victim was 16, then he would have got off. Clearly this wasn't the case.0 -
