The highest level of supporter ownership in the uk I've heard of is something like 20%? at Exeter...
If Roland won't sell, he could easily afford to gift 20% to a supporters trust.
It wouldnt massively impact his costs or profits, it would ensure the supporters and their representatives were involved and their well informed opinions listened to.
Good article. So where has our nightMeire CEO been hiding herself for the past couple of weeks? Hopefully she won't spout her usual lies and false promises at the meeting with the MPs.
This is a big deal. It should be noted that Owen Gibson is their (or one of their) #1(s) for the print paper. He has done a lot of investigatory work around FIFA, the Olympic stadium, and various other high profile causes, and he is a very good, proper investigative journalist. It's great to see him pick up this story, and the Guardian is usually good that once they get a story/expose, they write follow-ups.
Owen Gibson lives in Charlton, attends matches at The Valley five or six times a season with his child (though supports Chelsea). He was guest speaker at Trust AGM which he mentions in article. He's a really good guy and credit should go to @PragueAddick for building a relationship with him through the Olympic Stadium campaign.
stand up if you want them out, stand up if you want them out stand up if you want them out and if they won't go then
We want 20% We want 20% We want 20% and we'll be great again
We want our Charlton back We want our Charlton back And if you won't give it back We will fight We will fight We will fight for our club.
You ain't seen nothing yet This is the start of it We're not near the end of it Because We are Charlton your not Charlton We are Charlton Your not Charlton We are Charlton Your not Charlton
So give us our Charlton back Give us our Charlton back etc
KM has clearly been told what to say, trying to be conciliatory. Every word drips with insincerity. No matter what she says, no matter what she does, she has gone way beyond any hope of reconciliation.
Interesting that PV apparently tried once again to meet Duchatelet as recently as 6 January, and was rebuffed (a step up from being strung along, I suppose). Hopefully, he and the potential investors are still there waiting. We need to tip the balance, to make Duchatelet cave in. Roll on Saturday.
That's a sane defence if you are quoted when answering a leading question. Journalists often get public figures to give out of context answers in interviews.
Actually, the event was a conference where the speakers had complete freedom to express themselves. Our CEO really went for it and expressed her own view of football as a pastime. Unprompted and giving a real insight into how she sees the essence of the game. It's probably the single most revealing summary of KM in her role so far as it all her work, the picture is football as entertainment, no different to the shopping, cinema or restaurant activities she draws parallels to.
I've only ever heard these suggestions from our CEO, they might sit well with 10% of the crowd at Old Trafford and maybe 2% of The Valley. I've not heard anyone, ever nor anywhere, say what the English game needs is a more balanced consumer product.
Some new updated ifootie for the new generation. Fack off to that. I think there is a club in Serbia that plays in top of a shopping centre, it wasn't their choice. I also remember the esteemed Palarse had a close affinity to a supermarket at football. Apart from that it's just Staprix bringing their Pret a Manager approach to a new breed of savvy customers.
That breed of customers don't exist. The emotions at football are different to a sandwich or film experience. More so the lower down the leagues you go it seems. It's a lot more committed. The sense of attachment and involvement in the customer experience is ten fold.
Sorry Staprix, you have bungled. I don't think the English football fan is interested in your products, no matter how novel and wide ranging you think they are.
"taken out of context" is memorable. She set the context, it's her vision and now apparently is not and never was.
Looks like we are never going to get our wishes of an experienced manager/head coach under the ownership of Duchatelet. It also looks like the whole relaxation of the FFP, has really hampered Duchatelet's hopes of us getting into the premiership using their current financial model. We are just a club, that in the future, will get a load of cheap network players, combined with youth players and an inexperienced head coach, who will take any offer, just to get his foot in the door. We will resemble an under 21 side, in terms of, we are just a stop gap, on the way to bigger and better things. We are no longer a club. We will just be customers, Charlton will just be like a cinema or a shop, it's good, but you don't have any significant emotional attachment. I will support the club, but if this ownership is still in place by the time I have kids, I will really consider raising them to support a different team, where they can learn what a football club is really about, like I learnt about MY Charlton, growing up, before Duchatelet.

Probably the best "independent" article I've read. Good to hear that Katrien has at last made it out of the laundry basket and is finding her voice, albeit spurting the same contradictory crap that we have come to expect. It was probably her warm up prior to the meeting with the MPs today, and then her much-anticipated sort-of meeting with the customers tomorrow.
Shes very strange. Doesnt seem to take anything seriously or learn or listen properly. She honestly thinks that potential investors upset the FANS. F*ck sake either deluded, trying to convince herself of that or lying to the interviewer to try and give off a different perception.
How long does it take to come up with an idea on how to engage with the fans better? She's been repeatedly saying that bollocks for a long time and never finds a laid out answer or solution. A sentence that makes me wana vomit by the way. The engage part...its just so stupid and meaningless. Patronisingly dumb.
She's actually the biggest wind up merchant ever associated with Charlton.
Taken out of context? Utter bs, she went off on one and set the tone.

I think she was just lying to the journalist to give a different perception. But it's obvious to see that she failed miserably. What she's been doing in the public for the past year or two is telling blatant lies and I must say I find it utterly disgusting. Will she ever know her lies don't work at all?

Just do it.
Would that be a poisoned chalice though? Owning 20% of a company is not a freebie it comes with responsibilities and costs. For example if the 80% shareholder wants to spend a couple of million on a new player who is going to contribute our £400k share? Would you want to pay 20% of the players' wages each year? Etc, etc.

Yeah, we know Katrien, that's what we've been trying to get over to you and Rollie for two years now.
Shoddy.
She means motivates and excites the fans.
And that is a bad thing for the regime.

Her others have been catching fire of late......
Great article though. And more plaudits to Prague , bless him.
