Incredible! The amount of contradictions, u-turns, muddled decisions, and outright lies just defies belief. Even allowing for the stubborn ignorance of her boss, can a figure masquerading as a CEO really expect to be taken seriously by anyone after this? Clearly the "Board" thought long and hard about this one, once the search "started" after Tuesday's debacle. Even if Riga does well again, it'll just expose the stupidity of releasing him the first time.
Riga is calm and will inspire confidence. He knows his way to Sparrows Lane from The Valley and won't be phased by our predicament or working with the loony tunes on the board. I doubt fans will single him out for abuse even in a hostile Valley.
I think he is his own man and might have insisted on a budget.
For me at least he is a good choice. Those expecting someone like Pearson or Monk were always going to be disapointed.
As for Duchatelet admitting that mistakes have been made. Let's hope that he really does address that in the remaining weeks of the window.
We still need him to sell. Ramp up the protests but support Riga and the team.
This is a complete sham. I would not be the slightest bit surprised if the media hype of recent days was generated deliberately by the club as a smokescreen to engender a feeling of "At least it's Riga and not some unknown entity" amongst the fans.I hope we as a fan base are shrewd enough not to be placated by this ludicrous sticking plaster appointment and ramp up the protests.
Yes Riga is a nice bloke, yes he probably cares about the club and our plight but he was unable to keep Blackpool up if I recall correctly and has just been sacked from the French second division. If he was that rated by the board or the person to take Charlton forwards he should have been kept on originally.
He was not and that is a clear signal that the Board did not think that at the time and do not have the best footballing interests of the club at heart. It also suggests they have another manager in place happy to abide by their strategy, autonomous Roland's way or the highway approach and ludicrous recruitment system.3 months almost since Luzon was sacked and this is what that ludicrously incompetent CEO and utter freak of an owner has come up with just days after their stooge Murray attempted to placate the fans by implying Fraeye and the Board's way is the best way forward for the club.
This board is the enemy and cannot be trusted to act in the best interests of OUR club, its supporters and the rich history and tradition.
I hugely doubt even an excellent experienced and qualified manager would be able to prosper under this perverse regime.
They are an affront to Charlton Athletic and must go. I am hoping that the initial optimism (hopefully only a few) may feel at this offensively laughable RE- appointment is quickly diminished and the collective realisation that these morons and their utterr clueless, contemptuous weirdo approach of attempting to run Charlton need to be gone from OUR club asap only serves to strengthen the disharmony and bolster forthcoming protest.
Get these ****s of Charlton before they take the piss out of us any further.
Now he's been appointed he needs to be given a chance by the fans. He saved us from relegation before by changing the team's pattern of play so may, I repeat may, avoid relegation again.
It doesn't change anything regarding the regime, protests should continue apace. If Roly really wants to show us he's seen the light he will get a new, experienced, more autonomous CEO and invest heavily in Jan in good quality experienced players to get us out of the poo.
Firstly, I like Riga, the last time he got seriously demoralised players up for a fight and putting in match winning performances such as Callum Harriott, JJ, basically everyone. He has it in his locker to get the best out of a team low on confidence and low on ideas.
Didn't the motivational ability of JJ and the backbone of the squad being tractable British who could be roused for a fight: JJ, Hamer, Solly, Wiggins, Morro, Wilson, Cousins, Harriott, Poyet (raised in our football culture from an early age) have a lot to do with it? It may not be so easy this time.
As ridiculous as it all is I am happy with the appointment. Who better to keep us up than someone who has already done it once? He is also a very likeable guy, good luck Jose!

Did any of us really believe RD had seen the light and was going to conduct a proper recruitment process for an experienced coach - just wishful thinking. Having said that Riga best of a very bad bunch and he probably thinks he has unfinished business here. As others have said - support the team not the regime.
I wonder who else we can get back on an 18 month contract having shown them the door after six months. Pretty sure Huddersfield brought Martin Cranie on just to take the piss on Tuesday, let's see what he's doing. Where's Chris Eagles, he can't be up to much with his £500,000 a week contract demands. Wasn't Leroy Lita on loan for six months? The possibilities!
Nothing against Riga, this appointment was another Duchelet ploy to try to divide and rule. The circus is still the same. As far as I am concerned nothing has changed. Bring on the Blackburn protests, we have got to get the Belgians out of our club, with them it is only oblivion.
My first reaction was thank feck it isn't Malkey Mackay.
My second reaction is that it isn't the Roger Johnson of out of work 'British' managers.
My third reaction is that this is a whole new level of tough for Jose Riga than it was before.
My fourth reaction is that the whole process has had resonances of the Peeters/Luzon changeover, but this time the chite storm of media and gossip information and misinformation, the desperate casting around by the club to this predictable outcome, the farce of presenting Riga as the man who 'successfully steered the club away from relegation danger at the end of the 2013/14 season', after getting rid of the mastermind of that escape this time it is a whole lot worse.
My fifth reaction is what are the details? If as I understand it Riga had 'difficulties' with Fraeye does that mean Fraeye is out of the picture or has there been some kind of reconciliation? How long is the deal and what are the terms?
My sixth reaction is how on earth is Riga positioned to recruit the vitally needed players to be of genuine help?
My seventh reaction is that, like Callum, it is a tiny bit easier to support the team not the regime this Thursday at least.
My eighth reaction is we must step up the protests, today's news is a neutral holding position, but fundamentally changes nothing.
It isn't only Agents that love us, but also The Marriott Bexleyheath.
I think Riga was realistically the best we could hope for under Roland. I liked Riga first time around, he was doing well with Metz. Keep us please Riga, but Roland out still.
Good luck to him and I hope he can get the spirit and passion back and apply some thought and tactics. 18 months surprised me immensely. RD and KM clearly ran out of ideas...
As we seem to be going back to people we've let go, both on the playing and coaching side, I wonder if Damian Matthew will be brought back as 1st team coach...
The merry go round continues. The fella should have been given a long term deal after the Blackpool game at the end of the 13/14 season. The players seemed to like him. The fans seemed to like him. However the dopey owners decided Peeters was the man.
20 months later, we are back with Riga. I like the man and I hope he can do what he did before, but the football club is a lot different to back then. The fans rightly want these owners out now, crowds have dropped, the CEO is useless, and the protests will continue until they have gone (Roly, Meire, and Murray).
Welcome back Jose, but nothing changes with the owners.
As ridiculous as it all is I am happy with the appointment. Who better to keep us up than someone who has already done it once? He is also a very likeable guy, good luck Jose!
Notice how when we had a totally incapable coach, the protests picked up the most steam and publicity? Hence why they've played it safe with one a fans, such as yourself, will really like again. Don't fall into traps, wish him luck and hope we stay up for all you like; but don't be happy with this appointment, it's not happened because RD wants to it's happened because he's been pressured into feeling he has to.
On this very day, 6 years ago, Charlton appointed a former fans favourite to manage the team, who went on to guide us to promotion in his first full season.
Although it displays a complete lack of imagination from our owner / board, I too am happy with the appointment. Why we didn't keep him on at the end of 13/14 is a total mystery to me, but I am glad to see him back and wish him all the best. I might even start looking forward to my Valley visits again.
Also, Roland Duchatelet has shown a bit of humility with his statement on the OS. Something that has been sadly lacking from others in the executive seats.

Abso-feckin-lutely ridiculous.
And there was me getting my crayons ready for my "application".....
