So we appoint the manager who should have been given the job for the start of last season.

John Sullivan(Only Fools and Horses) was a bloody good comedy writer but even he wouldn't be able to match this ;)

Why is Roland coming out with these comments... Where is Katrien?

Louis Mendez Retweeted Richard Cawley "Quotes from Roland Duchatelet on the club's official website. A collector's item"

Louis Mendez ‏@LouisMend 15m15 minutes ago London, England "Tell me they haven't just changed the name on the quote they had ready yesterday"

Louis Mendez ‏@LouisMend 15m15 minutes ago London, England "Oh they have lol"

  • Did Roland interview someone... Katrien interview someone and Richard interview someone then?

Enjoyed Wim De Corte's reign as interim. Cracking.

Hey, he was undefeated and conceded zero goals so that immediately makes him better than most of the clowns we've had lately!

So we had Fraeye in an interim position for nearly three months while we were apparently looking for a new head coach, then Fraeye is actually sacked and we start properly looking and within barely a day we've appointed Riga, and that's without the circus with the Ujpest bloke.

I hope someone turns the past two years at Charlton into a comedy series or something, the past week alone has been hilarious.
  • An appointment that shows they don't understand and to keep protesting but also makes it easier for me to get behind the team for the rest of the season as I like Riga, it's a strange one.

'Head Coach' still means the suits control everything outside of matchday preparation. Thats not a good thing.

Riga is not the end of the world, but we need football people controlling all aspects of the playing side, especially recruitment.
  • So does he take charge for Hull or will he just sit in the Stands?

i hope Riga is successful in so much as keeping us in this division, surely that's what we all want.

however the whole saga is a complete shambles, incompetence is rife, It seems nobody learns from the multitude of mistakes made and we are continually being fed bullshit.

    wankers.

RD loves to play games doesn't he. Yet another tactic to split the fans. So predictable.

The least bad decision they've made in a long time

As has been said, RD should've retained his services in the first place, rather than brining in Big Bad Bob. I liked Riga the first time round. He conducted himself with dignity in a very troubling time, what with Powell gone and us languishing at the foot of the table, albeit with five games in hand, and the players took to him, as that group photo after the Watford game attests.
  • Judging from RD's comments... IS HE FINALLY LEARNING?

    What an absolute fucking joke!!

No disrespect to Riga, but he is not the right man for the job. He's been appointed because RD and KM have seen that he is liked for his previous achievements within the club. That way, if he fails, it will be our fault.

Bearing in mind this time yesterday he was quoted as saying he hadn't spoken to anyone at Charlton and now, within 24hrs, he is manager again, you have to call into question his credibility. Did he lie to fans yesterday or has he just taken what was offered to him by an owner that clearly doesn't rate him very highly based on their previous relationships?

If you look at it that the search started again yesterday evening when KF was sacked - which is what the club stated "a search for a new head coach has commenced" - they clearly didn't search long or hard enough did they? They just flicked back through ex-managers and plumped for Riga.

I have never, ever hated being associated with this club so much. Season tickets at Southend next season for my family. Bye Charlton and thanks you Belgian c**ts for destroying my relationship with my club.

I fear this might be a mistake, particularly for Riga. The club's a circus and those running it have gone into hiding.

When he came last time he inherited a squad used to the Championship that just needed the club to settle down and a couple of loan players in (particularly Obika) to balance it a little.

This time around he has a bunch of kids, a group of players who can't hack the demands of the Championship and cry off injured, and a fan base filled with anger at the board's continued wreckless negligence.

If he turns this around then he's a legend as far as I'm concerned, but I think it's a huge ask given the circumstances.

He also had Matthew and Dyer as experienced coaches. Who does he have now?

I think the club missed a trick by not having the headline, 'Riga: He's Better Than McKay.'
