McLaren are basically providing a gimme to Max here. On the flip side, hopefully this carries in to next year. And we can see the last of Verstappen titles for a while.
Maybe Mclaren are thinking themselves that the WDC is beyond either driver in 2024, and are prioritising the WCC... and also think that Piastri will be their better bet for the WDC in 2025.
Either that or they still think the WDC gone, and don't think either stands out from the other ahead of 2025, so don't want to upset things now, in case they upset the wrong guy.
But will be very surprised if Bearman isnt in that seat, but going to be much better benchmark to see how he'll get on next season.
Not just being in the car he'll be driving, but also be good to see how he does against Colapinto (who had a great debut) as he'll no doubt be fighting more with the Williams there

I wonder with KMag out the door anyway , Bearman being a non factor in F2 for the title would they just part company now and run Ollie instead for the rest of the season over a checked out KMag?

I would be very surprised it that happened - Maybe if KMag had finished P20 today with the penalty points, but he managed to get a point for the team, so would probably save him.

Agreed, KMag is usually good value for a few points and also a few battles to get the sponsors logos on the telly
There is no way Ferrari will refuse is there... If they do, I'll be as surprised as when they announced he was getting six FP1 sessions at the start of the season.
Confirmation from the FIA that Kevin Magnussen is suspended from the next race in Baku.
Ayao Komatsu says he needs clearance from Ferrari so can’t say if it’ll be Ollie Bearman who races yet #F1#ItalianGP
This isn’t unusual - Bearman is a Ferrari driver still so Komatsu can’t just say he’ll race. It’s likely but just not yet confirmed, and Vasseur has some celebrating to do first! #F1#ItalianGP
I don't get it. Fair enough, they want them to race but seeing as Piastri wasn't going to win at the end, surely they should have given the points to Norris. Piastri is not going to win the title, Norris can. Also, surely the tactics should have been to work together to drop the field with the driver who got into the first corner first leading. Letting them fight after that might have cost the team a one two.
That is 9 points lost to Norris in two races McLaren could control with Verstappen clearly there to be shot at!
Maybe Piastri had it inserted in his contract that of Norris was ever favoured over him in team orders he would get $500m and the right to cancel the contract? Otherwise makes no sense.

no biggie to McLaren (other than keeping the drivers happy), because its only the constructors points that matter to them.
Mclaren will need to favour Norris soon if they want both titles, the Norris Piastri move was very close to going wrong. 62 points is still a huge amount to overturn
Piastri deserved the second place, he overtook Norris with a good move and then opened and maintained a comfortable gap for the rest of the race. If Norris is going to win the world championship he needs to earn it and not rely on Piastri racing charitably. Yes there might come a time when switching them just to maximize Norris’ points makes sense but for now he is still making too many mistakes of his own, especially early in races.

But with 8 races left, very doable, not impossible. Norris did not optimise the potential points advantage but if he replicates the 8 points he gained over Verstappen yesterday, he gains an extra 64 points which could win him the championship and then you have to factor in two more sprint races and 8 more fastest lap points. Given that McLaren is clearly superior and Ferrari and Mercedes seem to be easing ahead of Red Bull, a bit of team orders and Norris would be favourite! If Red Bull were clearly the second best team it would be nearly impossble but it looks like they are not and falling away in relation to three teams, not one.
