We all love to see the home grown players coming through and making the first team. Guy has always been open about wanting this to happen and he has shown this season he will do this. The problem is with the way the team are playing at the moment are we going to ruin some of these younger players. Holmes-Dennis made his league debut last night in a game where the crowd was booing after about 10 minutes. Cant do his confidence any good. Aherne-Grant was awful last night and has been gradually getting worse. You wonder if having to play an 18 year old so many times already in what is first full season at first team level is going to have an effect on his progression. There have been lots of others this season with the odd game or two and you get the feeling it might be a bit too early for them. Don't think for one minute I am knocking these kids because I think we have got lots of quality coming through but it may just be too early for some of them.

Hardly inviting, when you see the kind of cack you could get mixed up in when you've done your time
If Luzon put him in to make a point to RD , which has been suggested , then that is a disgraceful decision.
I think many of us feel sorry for our current crop of young prospects. We have a situation where our squad is not fit for purpose and young players who may have a bright future are being forced into the team in less than ideal circumstances. Some youngsters may thrive on that, but equally there will be some that just aren't ready. The current situation could easily damage their confidence, and as we know, good form and player confidence go hand in hand. If RD really wants to make money out of our academy, he needs to understand that nurturing young stars takes patience, you can't just toss them in and expect them to perform.
The main issue for yourselves, as I see it, is that the Championship isn't the ideal place to chuck youngsters in at, especially if you want more than consolidation and/or the potential relegation fight that would ensue if too many are blooded at the same time. League One is far more forgiving and doesn't have, as some have alluded to, the same level of confidence crushing ability that the Championship has due to being a much higher standard of football (especially amongst the top 6-8 teams).
Charlton football club, its management and everybody associated with it should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to happen.
There are 18 year old men in Afghanistan who would be quite chuffed if the Taliban just booed and called them rude names.
I think more damage is done to the confidence of young players with the abuse they get on social media, and from the crowd.

Holmes-Dennis
Ahearne-Grant
They'll all end up decent players and we will regret ruining them.
Good post by the way.
