We gave our players a good run out against a Premier League side who had the benefit of a shit ref on their side.
Meanwhile they will need to pay the police costs, plus the repairs to the toilets and concession stands in the away end and gained literally nothing from playing our U19 squad.
Plus a great atmosphere. 10/10 on the visiting fans.
Can anyone explain to me why any other Championship club would want Igor Vetokele in his current state of fitness?
Prague, can I just remind you I said after the Rotherham game "But what has gone wrong with Igor? He was absolutely awful today - slow, not in the game at all. Maybe the injuries he had last season have affected him more than we know. But all I can say on that performance is unless he bucks up, if anyone comes in with an offer for him we should bite their hand off".
You came on and told me "don't be so bloody fickle".
I like Igor as much as the next man but there's something wrong with him and if Bolton want him, bite their hand off.
Got.a ticket amongst the palace fans. Not particularly fun! Were chairs being thrown then? Didn't see that but saw the flares. Completely outplayed. Soft penalties though.
Huge disappointment not only to lose to the local rivals but the truth is that whilst in my 50 years of watching we have been poor in this competition. The main truth is that we have for years made excuses to why we have underperformed or rather set up to underperform and there's the rub. It's a challenge to support managers, players and staff when supporters are consistently let down. Tonight was an opportunity to put on a show and metaphorically give Palace a bloody nose and raise the spirits of supporters and gain a bit of pride even if we lost. Resting players because as said on another thread it was a "meaningless" fixture is neither what I want to hear or think is correct. What is clear that the comments on this forum is that there is a big frustration with our club and whilst success and failure should be dealt with similarly not being bothered 100% with a local derby or a cup match is not acceptable.
"4-1 in your cup final" sums it up pretty well. There's no way they know or care what a game like this means to us.
I may be in a minority but it didn't mean a huge amount to me. Glad it's over and done with now although not particularly looking forward to what is coming next!
As for the game, it was going as well as could be expected at half time because, other than very occasional set pieces, we were never going to score. Their goals early in the second half were predictable and, other than about three minutes after Sarr's header, those 45 minutes were a demolition job. Luzon should have played a better team but, in all truth and honesty, I don't expect things would have panned out much differently.
Solly and young Kennedy played well-definitely think the latter has a future as a pro.
Hopefully we'll see some kind of turn around against Cardiff but I'm not holding my breath-reckon Guy has that game and the Fulham Sky game before the next lackey is lined up and the panto begins again.....
A worry is that Saturday we could well lose the game. If this were to happen then by the time we play Fulham on the Sunday we may well be in the bottom three.
Something tells me that the relegation struggle begins on tele in ten days time.
Generally speaking I have not much criticism of the players, and certainly not the manager, I think Luzon has done a good job in difficult circumstances.
Okay, we got stuffed by the enemy. Logic certainly asserted itself. Prem team in home win shock against championship rivals! Not! They have invested well their premiership money ( you looking at this Dowie?) so tonight had the sort of grinding logic we've come to expect. On our side however, its a bugger. Those who saw the squad as paper thin are being vindicated. Our slide is taking on epic proportions. We need to beat Cardiff saturday, and give a convincing performance, but it's hard to see where that is coming from. TWWW is now just Watt again. JBG gets multiple man marked and Pope's mistakes provoke people into waving pitchforks. We need Luzon to show he can turn it around. And we need more loan players.
Disappointed that we didn't show any sort of intent tonight. No matter the line up, there was no tempo, nobody in their faces, and nobody looking to get forward. We only looked half dangerous once they'd gone 2-0 up after the first soft-looking penalty. Then that nice Mr Swarbrick gave them another one and that was game over. In the end Pope did well to keep it to 4.
I'm going to be kind and say that Bergdich is taking some time to get used to the English game*. We're really struggling to find a decent left hand side. Fox is still learning and lacks a yard of pace - he can't hold down a whole side by himself.
Solly was our best player tonight, and Kennedy looks like he might be decent but will struggle in a side lacking much presence elsewhere. Ditto McAleny, and to an extent, KAG too.
Ba does one good thing followed by three bad, and then seems to disappear again. Cousins is Cousins but hasn't quite got the technique to control and dominate a game by himself.
All in all, a disappointing, if not unexpected, evening. Let's hope all those fresh, rested players turn it on on Saturday.
*That's code for weak, slow of thought, slow of foot and no awareness of what is going on around him, as well as seemingly lacking the basics, by the way.

Decent British loan players with championship experience please.

Duchatelet and Meire must go.
That ain't going to happen though. I think Luzon has done an okay job and certainly wouldn't be looking to get rid after two more defeats but our owner has shown himself to be pretty cut-throat. Hopefully we pull out six points though and we'll be chatting about the play offs again.

I never mentioned anything about the sacking of Luzon.
As for play-offs, clouds and cuckoos come to mind.

Yeah, wasn't there tonight but having watched the Hull game on TV and been at the Hudds and Blackburn game I really think we've signed a proper dud in Bergdich. I try to reserve judgement on players for a bit longer than that but I really can't help thinking there isn't much there with Bergdich. Fox needs help out there in the form of a decent left footed left sided player which we don't have right now.
Calling Harriott back looks increasingly tempting but I wouldn't be confident he'd make much difference.

Well this is probably the wrong thread for this, but you are not really getting my point. I guess it is this. If you can see so clearly his performance - and I'm not arguing about the performance you refer to - then why in the name of all that's rational do you think the professionals at Bolton Wanderers cannot?
Which is not to have a go at you. I just think the story is bizarre, and I wonder what's behind it

I think the problem is that Bergdich is a left back, not a left midfielder. If he does ever play at left back, we can then judge him more accurately.
What I don't get is that Charlton fans (except me and a minority) are very anti-cup, always stating either that we need to concentrate on the league to go up, or to avoid relegation.
This season we are a quite certain mid-table team (remember no club knows for sure at this stage of the season exactly how they will finish).
Despite this we still are apathetic towards the cups.
Tonight we were playing one of our main rivals.
Just what does it need for us to ever try to go far in a cup competition exactly?
One might argue that we don't have the team to go far, but even when we were a mid-table Premier League team with a squad capable of winning a cup we didn't appear interested.
Don't blame the players or manager for lack of interest. Show that you care yourselves. If the fans are constatly heard to complain that the cup(s) might upset our league form or that we need to concentarte on the league, how can we ever expect our manager and team to take it seriously?
Had a crap view first half right at the back. Selhurst Park really is a very poor venue. Anyway were there positives? Not really. First half we had the only shot on target as Crystal Palace wasted their chances, second half a maybe penalty at 0-1, then their penalty. Sarr scored from a decent corner badly defended, he then exposed Diarra who gets sent off (a big miss...will it be only the one game?), for another penalty, then eleven against ten, a fourth was no surprise. We have a thin squad, the players huffed and puffed, Solly, Cousins, Aherne-Grant, Fox, Kennedy and Pope were OK, the other players below par.
Not a great night.
Mind you I am glad I'm not a Palace fan, cheerleaders, abuse of some bird flying around, goal music, crap stadium and supporters who are basically like sheep in their structured dress code and supporting behaviour.
Oh well.
We're not in a great place right now, and I expect Guy Luzon to do something about it. It wasn't the team I would've selected, but he is in charge, so the buck stops with him.

Poor defending as well for the goals. Think Luzon has a job to do to turn this around

Not a violent man but the chap to our right with the specs needs a glass in his face, eyes, stomach and legs
Hate them
Roll on Cardiff but I am done as I suspect Luzon will be soon knowing our owners

Fiiish had the honour of meeting me.
Addickted messed up the stewarding and policing
We got beaten by a higher division team
The weaknesses in our squad were exposed.
Did Luzon turn up late due to You Kipper?
Pope and Fox did well, we worked hard, threw our bodies in front on shots bit weren't good enough over all.
McAleny didn't impress. Ok it was a prem team but he couldn't control the ball.
Move on.
PS walked with the ultras and their police escort. They really are pathetic.
