I regret upgrading but I hated Windows 8 as well.

With Windows 10 I have mouse lag so every time I tap a key, it takes a second or two for the mouse to become functionable again. Besides that I dislike how you can’t choose default programs – I want something quick and easy to look at a photo, not a loading screen and the image slowly emerging.

If I could I’d go back to XP or Vista.

Happy to stick with Windows 7, which works pretty well when compared to 8. You can guarantee than one of the drivers or programmes I have on it won't work with 10 yet!

Been offered a "free upgrade" on my Acer Aspire E1-570.....yes or no ?

You mean you decided to finally install all your windows updates and hence you've found one of them offers you the windows 10 upgrade!

You should update it. The whole process is very good at retaining your settings etc.

Was thinking of getting rid of my laptop with Windows 7 on it because it was very slow at everything. Downloaded Windows 10 and its like a brand new computer!

Just replaced my slow old laptop with a new one which comes with Windows 10. So far getting used to it and liking it. Very fast and since like my Nokia phone, not too strange. No problems so far.

Initially all was well after upgrading. However, subsequently had loads of issues for 2-3 weeks. Worst of which was constant "limited internet connectivity" and a "something went wrong, restart and we'll try and fix it" message. Spent ages trawlling blogs and support sites dealing with both. Eventually traced it to Avast. Uninstalled it and bingo all issues solved. This leaves me running Windows Defender, which I don't like. Has anyone found anti-virus that works with Windows 10?

Had a play around on a customers laptop today and was surprised that I enjoyed the feel and look of Win 10. Wont move from 7 on my main top til they stop supporting it though.

Upgraded my ThinkPad to w10 and very pleased with it. Noticeably quicker to boot up and the Edge browser is lightning quick. Uninstalled some Lenovo bloatware first though.

My view on upgrades has always been the same whether it is software or operating systems. Is there a tangible benefit if you upgrade? If what you have works for what you do and there are no major new features that will save you time, money or give you something different, why upgrade?

In my job, I use Word, Excel and PowerPoint and some specialist heavy duty number crunching software. None of those will benefit as far as I know if I move to W10. In my personal life, I just google around and sit on Charlton Life, so no real benefit there.

Why spend some of my life fiddling around with a new operating system (even though I hate Windows 8.1 which came with my computer) that might confuse me for a while?

Webroot has not displayed any issues. But then again, is it actually doing anything! Who knows?

Had to go back to 8. Started off ok but then pretty much everything went wrong with very few icons responding when pressed.
Admittedly I have a shit laptop but I'd prefer to blame Windows.

I have an old Sony Vaio that's been slowly sending me signs it needs replacing; Silverlight uninstalled and wont reinstall so I can not launch SkyGo.. Itunes decided to do the same, and also wont reinstall. Pokerstars and Traktor still run, which is all use it for mainly....but I've taken the plunge and have installed Windows 10 to see if that gives it the shot in the arm it needs..

I use AVG mate, no problems at all.

I upgraded from Windows 7 earlier in the week. I hated 8, but I'm really liking 10. I kind of resent having to use my Microsoft account to get anything useful working, but this is the age of the cloud and I do the same with my phone. But whereas my wifi used to take a while to connect in 7, it's there ready and waiting for me. I use Chrome by default, but Edge is streets ahead of IE. Interface is good, seems to make better use of my i5 than 7 did. Got lots yet to explore, but so far so good. I can see hooking it up to my work Lumia will be worth it when 10 drops onto that.

Re default programs, it's there in the settings and considerably easier to use than previous versions. Slightly annoyed that when Windows 10 set Edge as the default browser when I already had Chrome, and also when Chrome asked me if I wanted to set it to the default and I said yes, rather than just do it Windows 10 decided to present me with a screen where I had to set it manually. One day they'll understand we want things joined up.

Further to my post of August.

Noticed recently that 10 seemed to be failing to do the automatic upgrades. And I couldn't get it to do a manual update - just kept freezing.

So had a browse around the forums and there was a suggestion that it can get stuck in a loop. The "fix" was to disable fast start up.
Tried this and hey presto - updates!

It took most of this morning to complete so I assume a full fat OS update was required.

This is now done and they promised some improvements. The only one I've noticed so far is that Cortana now works. It (she) was supposed to be available in the UK beforehand but never made it to my machine for some reason.

I'm leaving fast start up disabled for a while to see if it makes much difference - I'm expecting it won't.

So, anyway, it might be worth going to settings/updates and security and clicking on available updates to see if your machines are doing updates automatically as they are supposed to.
