Pope - 5 Undoubtedly at fault for the goal. Shame because he's looked very solid since the pre-season errors. Cousins - 6 Solid and effective, but passing/delivery needs improvement. Fox - 6 Not as good as recent weeks and sold a couple of times but didn't do too much wrong. Bauer - 8 Just class. Too early to suggest he might be our best CB since the Prem years? Time will tell... Diarra - 7.5 Dealt with everything again and can't believe some still question his selection in defence. Gudmundsson - 7.5 Great work for the first goal and stuck big Si's knock-down away perfectly. Ba - 7 Couple of really nice passes. Midfield lost its way when he went off. I think there's more to come from him too. Kashi - 8.5 Best player on the pitch. Love his ability to win back possession and spray it around with either foot. Mustard. Bergdich - 6 Beat his man a couple of times but not entirely convinced - yet. Makienok - 8 Unbelievable contrast between his first and second half. Wouldn't have won the game without him. Ahearne-Grant - 7 Did well for the most part. Maybe could have scored from Ba's pass but definitely played his part today. Charles-Cook - 5.5 Doesn't look ready to step into central midfield. Did better after swapping with Cousins.
Pope - 7 Made less mistakes than Mak but didn't score so only 7 Cousins - 7.5 Solid Fox - 8 improves each week Bauer - 8 Immense Diarra - 8.5 Immenser Gudmundsson - 8 Massive contribution for both goals Ba - 8.5 Impressive but fitness seems an issue. Kashi - 9 Worth two midfielders, tired after 75 minutes but what a find Bergdich - 7 Curates egg Makienok - 8 Top class assist and goal did his job today. Gets a 10 when his pass % moves a bit above 50% Ahearne-Grant - 6.5 Not quite there Charles-Cook - 6.5 Seen better from him
Ceballos - Shame, looked like his best performance so far
Pope - 7 From where I sit i didn't know he fumbled for the goal. Shame, otherwise an impeccable performance today. Cousins -7 Done well at RB Fox - 7 Bauer -8 Extra point for the finger. Diarra -7 Gudmundsson - 11 Would have been 12 if he'd scored the one on one. The best attacking player on the pitch by a country mile. Ba - 7 Kashi - 6 Bergdich -7 Makienok - 7 Ahearne-Grant - 5 Charles-Cook - 4 Too much too soon for a young player.
Pope - 6.5 lpayed wll apart from the goal Cousins - 7 Fox - 7 Bauer -8 solider than solid Diarra - 8 Gudmundsson - 8 Ba - 7.5 missed him once he went off Kashi - 7.5 Bergdich - 6.5 Makienok - 8.5 really pleased he scored Ahearne-Grant - 6 stretched them but sometimes naive Charles-Cook - 5.5 young, will get better
Pope - 7 Did fine. Vocal, and caught all his catches cleanly. As for the goal? Look at it again. There were 3 players between him and the Hull player who had the shot. He must have only had a split second to react, and no time to adjust his position. Will he be disappointed? Yes. Will Guy start the process of building him back up again on Monday? You bet your sweet tush he will...
Cousins - 7 Some were looking at a different game to me. Jordan's rampaging overlapping runs in the first half were a joy to behold. "We need another right back", do we? Let's turn this around, shall we? Until Ba was substituted, did we look like we were missing him in central midfield? And who of Ba or Kashi deserved to be dropped on that performance?
Fox - 7 Looking so confident now that he is undoubted first choice. Maybe lacks a little pace, but defended well. Never going to be a CP, but there are a lot worse left backs out there...
Bauer - 8 The Man Mountain continues to impress. They breed them tough in Germany. After the finger incident, I thought his game dropped off a little. (Please don't think of this as a complaint! It must have hurt like Hell, and most players would have gone off. I'm sure if it had been me, I'd have been writhing on the pitch, crying like a little girl!) The fact that he had the finger put back in, and he carried on playing, reminded me of a scene from "Rocky"...
Diarra - 9 MOTM. I am struggling to think of anything that he did wrong in the whole game. Led by example, and drove the team on after the equaliser. After the incident to Bauer, he seemed to be playing as 2 centre backs. An outstanding, driving, almost flawless performance.
Gudmundsson - 7.5 An extra point for the goal, and the assist. Actually, I have thought that there is something not quite right with Johann this season. Nothing I can put my finger on, but his body language looks a little hang - dog. .. Ba - 7.5 Great performance before cramp finished his match prematurely. He and Kashi are real midfield destroyers, tackling and breaking up play excellently. Great tenacity, and do not underestimate his passing ability. If you get past him and Kashi, there's the small matter of Bauer and Diarra to get past. A terrible, terrible nightmare for the opposition. ..
Kashi - 8 Another outstanding performance. Never walks anywhere. Driving force behind almost everything that Charlton do well. A part of his game that maybe goes unnoticed. A constant nagging to his teammates, telling them what to do. And, after Big Mak's goal, his cajoling of the fans to get behind the team. Is it too early to say a captain in the making?
Bergdich - 6 Worked hard, without ever doing anything of any great note. Clearly, not a left winger, but a willing worker, and helped out defensively.
Makienok - 8 Low marked for the first half, why? Consider this. In training, he has probably worked a great deal with TW. Then TW is injured. OK, plan B. He works with JBG and Caballos, to see what works best. (This is probably the reasoning behind JBG being used as the second striker, moving him from his normal position, rather than CC. ) Then Caballos is injured. So he ends up playing with KAG. Strikers, like central defenders, work better with continuaty. Maybe his little touches and flicks were not aimed in the wrong area, but that KAG was in a different position? Anyway, a whole hearted, determined performance that brought rewards, in a position where he is always likely to get the odd clattering. The heart of a Viking warrior...
Ahearne-Grant - 6.5 Decision making at times suspect, but then you remember he his not yet 18. Willing runner, who gave the 2 experienced centre backs a good run for their money. When you consider that Dawson not that long ago was playing for England, that makes the fact that KAG got into shooting positions on more than one occasion, makes his performance even more impressive.
Charles-Cook - 5.5 Hindsight is an exact science, but at the time I said to my mate that I thought that it was a mistake making him a like for like replacement for Ba. Not because I don't rate this kid, but central midfield had been so outstanding, that I wanted Jordan to maintain the grip we had on the game. Again, if you consider his age, he can hold his head high. Watch him again when he gets another run out. In stature and running style, does he not remind you of Keith Jones?
Pope - 7 Shame the defence didn't collectively rush the shot for the goal. Was probably slightly unsighted. Still played well. Cousins - 7 Not much to do but did it well at right-back. Gave us a more presence in midfield for those last 10 mins. Fox - 5.5 Not as comfortable today. Slow to get up and attack in the first half and struggled a bit in the 2nd half. Bauer - 8 Extremely good and extremely brave. Never a thought that he would go off. Diarra - 9 Interceptions are his thing and his midfield instincts help with those. Such a calm player on the ball and a perfect partner for Bauer. His calmness and quiet encouragement is just what we need with so many young/new players. Gudmundsson - 8.5 Thought he was better when moved to the right where he gave us an outlet. Lovely combination work with Makienok and then a perfect cross for the header. Read the Makienok knock down beautifully. Ba - 8 Excellent tackling and was calm in possession. Tremendous prospect. Kashi - 9 Covered so much ground. Cleared from our box and then a few seconds later was closing their defender down in their half! Tackled like a demon from the off and flighted the perfect ball for Makienok's late knock down (I think). Bergdich - 7 Was very willing and showed some ability. Kept their expensive 2-Dog from Brentford pinned back for most of the time. Good to get 70 mins under the belt. Makienok - 9 Was so off the pace in the first half but the goal changed all that. His 2nd half performance was typified by the chase back and perfect slide tackle (a la Paul Mortimer). Two thundering clearing headers from our box. Ahearne-Grant - 7.5 Showed good control and ability to link the play. This was a very encouraging performance and if he continues to develop at this rate, he will be starting quite a few games. Charles-Cook - 5 Started badly by slipping over twice allowing Hull to get away. Never got to grips with the midfield battle and found it easier at full-back once Hull had dropped off. He needn't worry too much...Scott Parker struggled equally when he started in centre-midfield....it's not at all easy!
Ceballos n/a Harriott n/a - Showed positive attitude when chasing all the way back to help Fox. Had a go at Hull without much support and at least got them back-pedalling towards their own goal. Worth having on the bench in future.
Pope - 7 - played well, dominated the box, only mistake he made was the goal, but it did bobble a bit. Cousins - 6.5 quiet, effective. Fox - 7 solid, dependable - has come on from last season. Bauer - 7.5 - first time ive seen him - very impressed. Diarra - 8 - played well, good reader of the game, very good player. Gudmundsson - 7 - took header well, but, waaaah, what a miss! - didnt seem up to his supposed normal standards - never seems to when i watch him. Ba - 7 - played well, good partnership with Kashi. Kashi - 8 - industrious - the heartbeat, good player. Bergdich - 6 - fairly innocuous. Makienok - 8 - am i the only one who thinks he had an ordinary game? extra 1.5 for goal and knockdown. Ahearne-Grant - 7 - busy, doesnt lack confidence. Charles-Cook - 6
Pope - 4 when is Henderson back? Cousins - 7 Fox - 6 Bauer - 8 Diarra - 8 Gudmundsson - 8 made up for that miss big time Ba - 7 Kashi - 8 Bergdich - 6 looked clueless in the final third Makienok - 9 faultless hold up striker display Ahearne-Grant - 7 Charles-Cook - 5
Cmon !!!! He fumbled a belter of a shot which he couldnt see much of, and seemed to geta little bobble - what else did he do wrong ? I thought Pope played really well other than that.
Pope - 6: didn't have much to do against a lacklustre Hull but commanded his area very well and he was excellent on crosses. Left exposed for their goal but should certainly have done better. Thankfully, it didn't matter in the end and hopefully it won't undermine his confidence. Cousins - 7: solid at full back and helped to shore up the centre of midfield late on. Fox - 7: very sound. Crunching tackles are becoming his trademark and he has a lovely left foot. I'd like to see him taking a few corners, leaving JBG on the edge of the box to jink past his man and launch a few exocets when the ball comes out. Bauer - 8: another very impressive performance. Diarra - 8: top class - led the team really well, although we are fortunate that this team has a number of natural leaders. Carried the ball out of defence very effectively on several occasions. Gudmundsson - 7.5: not at his absolute best but, such is the man's quality, that he was involved in the two decisive moments of the game. Ba - 7.5: he got caught in possession once or twice but another good performance. He gets stuck in, has good feet and played a beautiful chipped pass through to KAG in the first half. Han't played much football in the last two years and should get fitter and stronger as the season progresses. Kashi - 8.5: MoM - completely dominated the midfield in the first half. Taking the ball off the opposition three times in the first 15 minutes is not a bad statement of intent. Suffered a little towards the end as we ran out of steam but worked like a trojan and put in a good ball to Simon Makienok for the winner. Bergdich - 6: a good start to the game but has a tendency to overplay instead of keeping it simple and the ball would not obey him in the second half. He has pace and talent and maybe just needs to settle down and relax into his game. Makienok - 8: mediocre in the first half, although the lack of continuity and understanding up front didn't help. A titanic performance in the second, which has really announced his arrival as a Charlton player. Ahearne-Grant - 7: good movement and speed but lacked composure and accuracy when in shooting positions. We know he's got that in the locker and it will come with more experience. Charles-Cook - 6: thrown into centre midfield at the most difficult stage of the game and it largely bypassed him. Did better when he moved to right back.
