  • I've always wanted to know, with regards to the people plugged in with earphones and radios... what are they listening to? Surely they're not plugged into Capital Gold, rather than taking in the game.

    * Everything you wanted to know about Charlton but were too afraid to ask...

Partially sighted supporters listening to commentary?
  • probably other football scores, which I can sort of get towards end of season when were usually in a relegation scrap ( JUST A JOKE ), but cant see why you would want to do it this early in the season - each to there own I suppose.

It does make me laugh when people who say they cannot stand or walk for too long decide to walk up 100 steps to the back to their allocated seat and then start moaning to everyone to sit down.

Your right to say this, I have only been supporting Charlton for 57 years and I apologise that my knees and hips have given out, it normally only takes me two to three days to recover from an away game. I'm please at least I give you something to laugh at.

Sorry for being so inconsiderate and groaning when I sit down, hope you stay fitter for longer than me.

I suffer from herniated discs in my back . I can walk up steps , no problem and i love walking long distances . If i stand still for more than half an hour i'm in a lot of pain.

I thought it might be commentary, but where are they getting it from? Charlton are never on commentary on BBC Sport 5Live, or BBC London...

Thank you... quiet period at work, so I thought I'd come on here and waste time with Charlton brethren.
  • Sit at home, Stand away
  • What I don't get is that when we have a game where the whole support stands and we sell out (this season probably only Fulham and QPR) it is never as much of an issue as one where only a minority do and there are hundreds of other seats to choose from?

I personally prefer to stand at football and remember many a time as a kid trying to see bits of games from behind a pillar or a tall bloke on a manky old terrace but appreciate there are others that don't.

I would also be selective on taking my 7 year old to an away game such as Fulham if he had to be stood on his seat for 90 minutes but that's mainly because he can't stand still and I'd be picking him up off the floor every 30 seconds..

But plenty of clubs throughout the football league seem to manage the problem.

If the club genuinely saw it as an issue I am sure there are ways to manage it such as specifically requesting tickets near the front but clearly it isn't.
  • first away of the season and this old argument rears it head again. This has got to be a record.

Fish said" Yes, it's their fault that most stadiums were designed in the days of all-standing and before modern health & safety and accessibility guidelines were brought in. They should hang their heads in shame."

    messed up the quoting.

This is my point exactly. I'm not laughing at anyone. Everyone knows people who like to stand go to the back, Why put your self through more pain by walking up their then moaning when people want to stand up. We never sell out, there is always shit loads of seats available nearer the front or nearer the gangways.

I've never moaned about people wanting to stand . Just saying that not being able to stand for a long while doesn't mean you can't walk up lots of steps or do many other things.
  • Apologies read it wrong. Not saying your one but why go to the back if your not prepared to stand. Derby would have a great view wherever you sat.
  • I specifically asked Derby for seats near the front - got row C. But if I'd got row Z I'd still have sat at the front. FFS this is not difficult except for those few sell-out games. Got to say the row C view at Derby was excellent.

The Charlton ticket office, have never let me, choose my row/block for an away game.

I quite often get allocated seats near the corner flag ffs.

When I ask for more central seats, the response is basically, "my pile of tickets are in front of me and that's what you'll get".

    Shoddy.

Anyway, we really need to all have an unofficial agreement, that we sit where it's more sensible for each individual.

So if you want to sit, go to the front and if you want to stand, go to the back.
  • If the Charlton ticket office had the staff, then it wouldn't take much sussing out the seating formation/configuration at away venues. Even if it is to look at the away club website, or a courtesy phone call to them.
Individuals could do the same, and then it would need to be OK to ask for Row A or Row Z or whatever.
It might even be possible to ask the purchaser their preference, however it would take a bit of extra effort, and given the cutbacks it might not be possible for Charlton to allow ticket staff to train up to do the task.
In football seating is Row A always near the front at every ground?
  • It is in my experience.

At every kind of venue in my experience, not just football.

This isn't just about customer service. Clubs, including Charlton, often ask for seats to be sold in a particular order so that they can manage the stadium most efficiently. It's also why they often release only a limited allocation initially.

So let me get this right. After paying £30+ for a seat ticket at an away ground, not only would I be sitting in the worst part of the ground, you expect me to sit in the worst part of that stand i.e. low down at the front, just so an arrogant dipstick like you can stand. Campaign for standing areas at football grounds and I would fully support you. Meanwhile, stand in front of me and I guarantee you won't be there for long.

Wind your neck in, You been to a cafc away game lately, We hardly have any fans at away games, but you feel the need to come and sit in the back 5 rows and demand everyone sits down. well your ignorant then. Tell me one ground in the championship where you wouldn't get a decent view from not sitting in the back 5 rows. If we took 2k to away games and half were stranding I could understand your point but its not. It's 100 - 150 max.

  • I don't think there will be such problems at Nottingham tonight!

Damn my arrogant dipstick ways, get a grip.
As someone already said, unofficial agreement amongst fans is perfect, sitters down front standers at back.
  • Sit or stand? I prefer to lay down but it could be an age thing.

Draw up a bingo card and see how long it takes to call house!

    1) these people have paid for their ticket and you should respect that
    2) standing is against the rules in an all seater stadium
    3) old and infirm go to away games too don't you know
    4) you can sing and clap just as well siting down
    5) the club have no say on where the tickets are allocated

    5 phrases/arguments/viewpoints there should take 30 posts maximum ;-)
