The only non-naff shirt sponsorship in football ?

  • On the subject of shirt sponsors, I once had an old Standard Liege shirt (pre RD by at least 10 years!). I wore it when I visited my chiropodist, who was a Spurs fan. He asked what the sponsorship logo wording on it was about and I said I didn't know. He said how do you know it doesn't say 'I'm a tosser'. I said what, like Holsten does you mean? Me plates haven't been the same since.
  • NTFC link clarified that the away shirts are not sold at a discount. Instead each sale generates a payment to a Coppa Feel a breast cancer awareness charity (hence pink). The charity focuses on raising awareness to increase early detection of breast cancer which can make treatment easier and more successful if no less stressful.

So the point of the shirt is to raise money for charity and the pinkness is driven by the nature of the charity. Not naff at all in my opinion and I'd consider buying if CAFC did similar.

Hearts are sponsored by save the children.

  • I don't like our sponsor at all and I won't buy the shirt with university of Greenwich on it.
    KBRS because you need investments.
ANDREWS to keep you cool on a hot day.
University of Greenwich- because you are thick and need to go back to school.

Not a message I need to heed or promote.
  • I work in banking so the standard chartered one for me is a big loser for Liverpool, not that I like them anyway. Alcohol promotion to kids is wrong, full stop. Local business sponsorship is naff for a club, makes them look like losers who can't get a big name.Big corporate sponsorship looks like the club has sold its soul.

The thing I like about this post is it avoids sweeping generalisations and cliché....

Have you guys seen the new Necastle strip? It has blue stripes in it because of Wonga!

Meanwhile the fans have launched their own kit in protest at Ashley's business model.

I just googled this to see it and it is, apparently, £60.07 for the kids shirt.

    Outstanding!
  • I believe that Northampton Town are sponsored by the University of Northampton although that is somewhat devalued by the fact that their new away kit is pink!

To be fair their away kit is pink to promote cancer awareness, which is a a great thing for them to do.
Well that's good, didn't know what cancer was until I found out they were wearing pink and googled cancer.
What made you google 'cancer' if you didn't know about it?

    ;-)
  • That alternative shirt is so much better than the Wonga abomination which is hideous in every way.

I'm glad about the Greenwich Uni sponsorship btw, it makes us a bit different from the rest, which is as it should be. Plus, it's a link to the local area and aspirational too. Good all round.
