A friend of mine was on the same training course as Johnie Simon Church and Lawrie Wilson Johnie told him that he expects to play regular football in a holding midfield role. Sadly from my point of view he says the owner is looking to servive in this league next season.

Thank you for sharing that information. We can only hope M.Roly wants more than just survival, otherwise why is in it for?
Roland wants premiership football .. he not in football just to run a club who is happy to survive
So he will not sell Gomez for any price then, he is not in it just to make money
Why would the owner say to any player he was just looking to survive ? Hardly a morale boosting statement and it's unlikely to help in keeping the like of JGB. It sounds like a load of old rubbish.
Sorry but it is not a load of old rubbish. You so disrespect but why.
If Jacko had said ' I think the owner wants to have a real push at promotion this season' I would have believed you but because he's saying we'll continue to be the worlds most boring football experiment I don't believe you

So when and where did this conversation take place considering that church has been training with Wales for the last couple weeks and Wilson has been in Sri Lanka on holiday for two weeks. Typical made up story of someone with "inside information"
It was widely reported that a number of our players including Church, Harriot Wilson and Jackson were taking their coaching badges at West Ham's training ground just after the season ended in May.
Here's the photo from twitter in case anyone can't see it.
Personally I believe it was what JJ said. Others will have a different view.
That may well be his view based on what he knows, has seen or been told. Doesn't mean that is what RD has planned as I doubt he rings JJ to discuss his plans. Im not convinced he tells GL, KM or RM either but that's another story.
But don't shoot the messenger because you don't like the message.
After reading the initial post there is no mention that Johnnie actually said that the owner will be looking for us to just survive rather than thrive.

You may be a know it all on all things Charlton. But you know nothing about me and a liar I am not. What I am is a long standing Charlton supporter who goes to all home and some away games. What about you?

Sorry BP. I meant no offense. Maybe you are telling the truth. I am just a bit skeptical given the number of times we have seen people post about inside information that were clearly not true. I am still a little bit skeptical that the owner is going to be telling JJ about his ambitions for the club and even more skeptical that JJ would go broadcasting it a number of people at some training course.

Yeah but its the summer and if we don't make things up, what are we going to talk about?
With major changes to our squad I do not expect to win the league - whoever we bring in. It is a major risk and avoiding relegation must be the first objective. We will need to get to a settled squad before we can realistically push on.
Gomez is the key to where we are going. He is on a long contract and we do not have to sell now. If two top six clubs are interested, three million has got to be the starting figure. Will RD cash in AND spend that money? Will he hold out for more? Will he cash out?
Will he just keep him? I may get excited if he does!
Didn't Katrien say last season the goal was survival ?
Perhaps something is being lost in translation here, survival is the first goal (it has to be) but maybe it's not the only one.
I also wonder if the person that Jackson was referring to as "the owner" was RD or, more likely in my opinion, KM who he may see as the owners representative.

I'm not convinced though that RD realises you have to run to stand still in any league. If he thinks we're going to finish safely in mid-table again without significant investment then he's as deluded as he was when he thought that Polish Pete was a good replacement for Yann. Truth is we have to aim for promotion to ensure mid-table security.

What is clear in my opinion that it's not investment that is the issue here. We have proof that RD is very willing to invest. Polish Pete, Lepoint, Igor, Watt and JBG have all cost us very good money and if we believe what we were hearing about Delort this time last year we have more evidence. More than we have seen spent in years. What is of concern is just who is identifying our potential signings. I'm sure for the most part it isn't Phil Chapple. We have wasted far too much on players that are patently not either good enough or perhaps at least not suited to English championship football.
I honestly don't think its about getting promoted, the main aim is to stay up.
The strategy is it appears to bring in 'economic' signings, while sticking to wage and aquisitions budgets and sell them on when they've accrued value. The network allows those economies through, reducing fees to clubs and agents.
Can't confirm but heard we pay high wages, low fees.
The eventual aim is to make money (sorry if this is covering old ground)

That's what we need to get sorted out.
