I gave him credit weeks ago along with a number of other people on that thread
  • It's true, with all the anti Luzon threads and comments recently...
  • Last Saturday we were 2-0 down after 10 minutes, I thought the lads thought back well today , showed some real class and controlled quality at times took their foot off the gas at 3-1 , and let Reading back into it, but could have had another 3 goals if they'd taken their chances.

Guy Luzon, not quite sure what more I can say about him, I had huge reservations when he joined us, he seems to have turned us from a team that had no belief, looked a rag tag unit nailed on for relegation , into a team ( by no means the finished article) that goes not just only out to win each game, but actually has a chance of winning each game, long may it continue, well done Guy, stuff the scum ,and make it a really good good Friday.
  • His team plays with style and panache.
The second half today was as good as any performance I've seen in the last couple of years.
He’s feeding the doubters bucket loads of humble pie.
  • Hands up...I thought the guy was a puppet when he was brought in...how he proved me wrong...Best attacking football win at all costs

  • Question: Guy, congratulations on a superb second-half display.

GL: "We played great in the second half.

"We had good combination and movement, we scored three goals and we could have scored four or five.

"It was a fantastic performance from us and the players did it well."

Q: There have been a few good performances since you took over, but was that the best?

GL: "I think the second half was brilliant. We moved the ball well and as I’ve said, we could have scored three.

We are happy and the fans are happy. In the last nine games it is our seventh win and it’s great but we need to continue.

Q: You must be regretting that this season is coming to an end with the form you’re in?

GL: "I’m totally with you! I’m really enjoying it.

"The players, the staff, the fans, all the people around the club are enjoying it and if it depended on me, we would continue through the summer!"

Q:How important was Tony Watt’s strength in that second half?

GL: "All the players played brilliantly. They were magnificent.

"They played with confidence. Even at 1-0 down we continued to push and to play. And at 2-1 we wanted a third and then a fourth and a fifth."

    "It was great football today."

Q: Were there any nerves at the end?

GL: "In the end we need to learn from this situation.

"At 3-1 we need to continue to play and go forward, never go back, so we will learn from this."

Q: You’re dazzling the Championship with some spectacular play. Is this ahead of the script that you had for Charlton or is this how you designed it?

GL: "My philosophy in defence is to be in the zone and in position and when we have the ball we need to enjoy and we need to smile.

"We want to play football on the ground because football is a game not a war so we need to enjoy it when we have the ball with us.

Q: It was great to see Yoni Buyens score from open play as well as another penalty today.

GL: "The second goal was magnificent because before we scored we made 30 or 40 passes on the ground and the goal was brilliant.

Q: You have a break now for a couple of weeks. What are you going to do with yourself because you must want to be playing every day between now and the next one?!

GL: "I’m going to get a bit of rest and take some time off to recover and be ready for the next game.

Q: Are you setting any goals for the rest of the season?"

GL: Our target is just to enjoy every game and to take the maximum points that we can.

Q: And you have a busy Easter period coming up including a big London derby at Millwall.

    GL: "It’s fantastic.

"I love those sort of games and I love the pressure, it’s my life.

Q: You’re not under much pressure at the moment, though, are you Guy?

GL: "I like the pressure, I need the pressure!

"But it’s OK because I enjoy it."
  • "Football is a game not a war". Pretty good line that. Gutted I'm not able to see more of this apparently fluent attacking play we've been producing recently but credit to Guy Luzon for getting the boys playing in a way the punters can enjoy.

It's been a long time since we have played in that fashion consistently. Even with Curbs' very best sides we had a cautious side, same with Powell, and although Pardew talked a good game about playing good attacking football but he rarely delivered it.

Before my time, but is the most attacking Charlton side we've since the days of Hales and Flanaghan?
  • Neither a borrower nor a lender be.
  • "At 3-1 we need to continue to play and go forward, never go back, so we will learn from this."
Very different from BP who did seem more of a one-nil man

My favourite answer in that whole thing.

Even in successful periods it's been a very Charlton thing to not go for the jugular when playing well an winning, but to drop back and try to defend the lead, inviting pressure.

Just look at his body language, he quite obviously doesn't wan't to be here . What sort of message does that send out to the players? In a strange sort of way i feel a little bit sorry for him.

I agree. He looks and sounds so uncomfortable. Is it a language thing?.
His jumping around in his tech. area waving his arms looks a bit strange.
He certainly does not fill me with any confidence that he can get us out of this slide into relegation.
I wonder if he communicates better with the players, although on last nights performance obviously not.
In a funny sort of way I also feel a bit sorry for the bloke. He's appears to be out of his depth.

(Just to say, mine's served cold with M&S watercress and tomatoes on the vine. It's delicious)

    Thanks for reminding me Prague.
I think I posted that after the Norwich game when all around me were chanting “You don’t know what you’re doing” to Luzon.
Who would have predicted then the remarkable turnaround?
My humble pie tastes really good, even better with wins and performances like the second half yesterday.

And was meant only to point out that Guy Luzon didn't have a friend on here when he arrived, certainly not me, based on everything I'd read, from Standard and from Israel.

He, and Roland, have made us all look pretty silly.

That said, Roland apparently assured Richard Murray that he really is a good coach, and not just a spare human resource on the Ujpest payroll. So why not, Roland, just replace Peeters with him straight away if you were sure? Would have saved Katrien a lot of grief.

    No, don't thank Colin.

    Thank Guy.

  • It does look as if RD and Katrien actually got this appointment right.

GL is growing on me and you can't argue with the results and, imo, the football which I find enjoyable to watch.

I just hope that RD and Katrien don't do anything deranged and keep the squad largely intact with some considered additions.
  • Well I was dissenter but I am now a convert in a short while Guy has produced a team that plays attractive football and regardless of anything else we may think that's an achievement. Still struggle to understand what he says but then again his English is better than my Israeli so what the hell.

Got to say, Jackson doesnt just walk back into this side. Replaces Lepoint on the bench.

Just not true that he didn't have a friend on here when he arrived.

check out the Luzon 100% support thread.

You might feel silly now but not all of us.

Some wanted him to be a success and gave him some time to show what he could do.

Please lets not rewrite history or extrapolate what you personally thought to include everyone on here.

    100% Henry.
I have just revisited your 'support' thread and think CharltonParklane shines out in particular, amongst many supporters without an axe to grind.

I think your confusing perception and support Henry.
It appeared from his first press conference and the first few results that Luzon was not the right appointment.
Obviously subsequent results have proved the opposite.
Any Charlton manager would get my support in the hope they would be successful.
