Paulie, I don't think you know the difference between sitting back and getting pushed back. We pressed and pressed and pressed against Ipswich and missed our chances. McCarthy then brought on another striker, got his players to start playing the game higher up the pitch and their fresher attacking players pegged us back. Ben Haim's decision to charge forward despite the flow changing towards the end is evidence exactly of the team not sitting back when they probably should have. We get pushed back because we have steady, unremarkable players whose strengths lie in being organised rather than sparkling attacking play and quick transitions. Add to that the fact we don't take the few chances we create and getting pushed back is no surprise.
the last 10-15 minutes against Ipswich we did sit back, which is why a CB decided to take it upon his self to run and had no support, we was settling for the point and it cost us.
the subs as well 86 and 90 last week 90 this week what is the point other than time wasting, and why time waste because you are trying to settle for what you have
You really need to fix up a meeting with Big Bad Bob, Paulie.

wut, so we sat back by pushing our centre half forward?
Ben Haim made a huge error and completely went against the instructions of the team which is one of the main reasons why he was blasted.
I just wonder if there is a forward out there in Europe that Big Bob has his eye on when maybe RD releases the purse strings as mentioned in January?
if we keep dropping points we might be to far away from the play offs for that, remember RD said he would give BP money if we are close to the top 6 in January
Yes and a win next week keeps us in the frame. That would put us on 32 points from 21 games which is very close to 6th place form. Elsewhere someone has posted that M.Duchatelet was over this week. Perhaps they are discussing progress to date plus budget and targets for January. Bob Peeters and the squad have kept us in the top ten all season (well 11th tonight) so the question is what happens next.
Win last week and were in the frame still, win this week and it would have kept us in the frame.
a win looks along way away if we keep sitting back is my point
But for a wonder goal today we would have won. Your point is nonsense.
you could say but from a wonder goal we would of lost.
we sat back just like we did against Ipswich, just like we did against Millwall in fact in most games since the Norwich game which we luckily got away with and since then its like we have thought we could do that every game and get away with it
Sat back against Ipswich? You are on drugs or a wind up.
So, one game where its 50/50 in terms of possession and similar in terms of shots is acceptable in the whole scheme of things?? We *do* sit back, and its not always to do with playing a better team . Even if we do play a 'better' team, it shouldnt stop us from pushing up, putting pressure on the oppo, and also being up their arse when its obvious they are going to receive the ball- We dont do that, and its most of the time nothing to do with being pushed back by a better team. Today, we were poor in second half and hardly got out of our half - a game where they had 17 shots and we had 4 - so, thats because of them being a better team?, well, let me tell you, it is (very) typical of our season.
I just wonder if there is a forward out there in Europe that Big Bob has his eye on when maybe RD releases the purse strings as mentioned in January?

Sure but if we can't beat Blackpool at home then who can we beat? If we win then it is virtually job done for the first half of the season and the onus is on M.Duchatelet, the scouting team and Meire to land two quality players. We know who the back five are week in week out even when two first choice players are out injured. But I'm not sure we know the best combination for the front six? Add two quality options to what we have already and we should be back to creating more chances. Secure the right striking partner for Vetokele or simply add to the striking options - currently Vetokele, Harriott and Tucudean - and we will be a much stronger side.
I did some quick analysis of our Goals stats this season and we have totalled in our 20 games 199 Shots whereas the Opposition have totalled 330 !! Now, dont go and start telling me that its shots on target that is the key - coz you gotta have a shot in the first place. Of the 20 games, there have only been 3 games where we have had more shots - Wigan,Sheff Wed and Ipswich. I would suggest that possession is similar in terms of percentages.
It was just so obvious from todays game that we just allow the oppo to have the ball in key areas, and i suggest that either 1) We are very good defensively or 2) We are very lucky or 3) We are due a very big tonking or three.
I just wonder if there is a forward out there in Europe that Big Bob has his eye on when maybe RD releases the purse strings as mentioned in January?

Suddenly ? we have been sitting back after scoring for more years than i care to remember. It's what we do.
Unfortunatly.........
Today's game was a good example of this, first 30 minutes we played brilliantly (As we did first half last week) and Forest looked dreadful in the first half but we failed to take advantage of that as we started getting sloppy towards half time.
After we conceded I expected us to push up more but we did not. We invited more and more pressure and could not keep the ball well and I thought we got lucky in the end.
What frustrated me more than anything else was on a couple of occassions when we attacked, no one was going forward apart from Vetokele and Harriot, the two midfield players just jogged up and I was wondering what on earth did Peeters say to them at half time?
Of course we sit back. Birmingham a perfect example. There for the taking and we sat back, welcomed them onto us, made them look good/better than they are.
I for one would like to see more attacking football, I don't mean gung-ho, just when we get a goal up, carry on doing what we were doing to get there.
I just wonder if there is a forward out there in Europe that Big Bob has his eye on when maybe RD releases the purse strings as mentioned in January?

too right. We are really a work in progress, trying different rotations brought on by injury and who we can pick up. Formation consistency isnt there yet and will need to be developed in light of the qualities of any new arrivals.
Coquelin looks like a lovely shaped piece for our jigsaw. Be looking to see him and Cousins plus one of JJ or Yoni Buyens. As we saw today, that`s nice quick passing and also the requisite strength and energy...much better balance than JJ and YB together IMO.
First half everyone won their individual battles to the extent Forest really couldnt get the ball under control. You`d swap Wilson for Antonio, the rest no thank you - great value for Forest not!!!
2/3 players better for ST and left side and we could be cooking.

I was thinking about this after Ipswich and watching today has made me think again.
When the season started we never stopped going forward and that was key in the wins over Derby, Wigan and Watford. I remember coming out of the games delighted looking forward to this new style of play.
So what has happened over the past month or so, why do we now suddenly drop back and not push forward, we sat back today from about 35-40 minutes onwards, even we it went 1-1 I expected us to push forward again but no we continued to sit back.
does anyone have an idea on why we have suddenly done this?
2/3 players better for ST and left side and we could be cooking.
I agree but the same will being posted on every fans forum by fans of every club.
Every team is always just 2 or 3 players away from being very good.
And if we add 2 or 3 players, and they are the right players (remember Polish Pete and Reza), then there is also the 2 or 3 players most of the other teams in the division will add.
It's not a zero equation where we move forward and everyone else sits still. They will also try to improve.
Other than the clubs given a transfer embargo (some of whom have already strengthened) we will be competing with those other clubs and will either have to match fees and wages or find a bargain in the network (Polish Pete and Reza again).
There is another team on the pitch playing against us.
I think people conveniently forget that Henry.
Not at all. Yes, there is another team out there, however, also what people conveniently seem not to be to see is that we concede space and sit back. It was plainly obvious yesterday where, as i keep saying, we just allow other teams space and possession - stats prove it !! 199 shots all season for us, and 330 for oppos - some people seem to conveniently overlook that ! Sometime soon TBH is going to be out injured, we get no luck and the oppos are able to shoot on target and we are going to be the recipients of a good hiding or 4.

When I posted that, I was sitting on the train on the way home. I had no idea the goal was deflected.
For what its worth, I'm not stupid enough to think that we haven't sat back in "some" games this season, it is just ridiculous to suggest we sat back against Ipswich and yesterday.
Forest got a head of steam up yesterday, the crowd got fired up (and at times were the loudest home support I've heard for ages) and we couldn't get out, we got pushed back.
I was actually impressed the way we handled the pressure and fought our way back into the game.
At the moment BP is employing tactics which utilise our strengths. Give him a target man and a few more options from the bench and we'll hopefully start playing 10 yards further forward.

Totally agree. We did sit back in the second half, no doubt about it. Whilst I kind of expected a Forest onslaught straight after half time it only came in fits and starts and only when we invited them on - in my opinion!! I didn't think they were that impressive to be quite honest. The deeper we got, the more punts we hit up to Vetokele who consistently lost out to their jolly green giant of a number 16, resulting in us losing possession again, resulting in them coming forward again because we were sitting back!
Yes, I was there so could see the bigger picture. The beauty of all of this is that it's just a game of opinions, that's all. Sadly, for some (e.g. Paulie), when they have an opinion they just get castigated on here for some reason by a vocal minority. Even if you don't agree with it, the vitriol dished out in response is often 'band wagonly' nauseous.
