BP: Tucudean had golden chance to sink Millwall at death

  • I will hopefully get chance to see it from a different angle as i did not think the defender got a touch on the ball from the shot i have seen, just seems to bundle into George but fair play if it was good defending to get a touch on the ball from his postion of having to catch up.

Let us know if you see it from a different angle because for the life of me I cannot see from that Vine the defender getting a touch on the ball. The ball keeps on rolling towards the goal. If the defender gets a touch on it, the ball heads off to the right. Still a penalty for me, although I accept a hard one for the ref to call.

No matter how many times i see it on the highlights on CAFC player, i just don't see the great moment of defending from the Millwall player happens, seems like a desperate effort to beat Tucudean to the ball but he just takes him out rather then goes for the ball.

I still think he had decided to take the chance Forde saves the penalty, won't believe his luck he got away with such a clumsy foul in the box.

Maybe Tucudean too desperate to be the hero or too naive, should have made more of it.

That being said Ben Haim has gotten away with a couple of clumsy moments of defending in the box this season, so we can't have too many complaints.

    Tucudean, Parzychek, Church, Pigott

One striker, One good prospect, Four not good enough. You can see where the January transfer kitty needs to be spent.

Pp is how old? And how often have you seen him play? I think it's a year early to right him off.

Pigott I agree but hope he makes it

Tucadean shows glimpses of a player. Consider this, he is 22 and in a country where he knows very little people and plays in a league where he has no experience. Can he even speak English to a high standard? Probably higher than most millwall supporters. Give him time to settle

Not writing them all off, and not for ever. I would like nothing better for Piotr and George in particular to "come good" but right now, looking at our goal scoring record, they are clearly not good enough to help us mount a play off challenge.

Take a look at the strikers that other teams in the top half have, and compare ours:

    Derby - Martin, Russell, Best
    Bournemouth - Wison, Yann, Pitman
    Boro - Bamford, Vossen
    Ipswich - Murphy, McGoldrick
    Brentford - ??
    Blackburn - Rhodes, Gestede
    Watford - Deeney, Vydra
    Forest - Assombalonga, Fryatt, Blackstock
    Norwich - Jerome, Hooper, Grabban
    Wolves - Graham, Dicko, Sagbo
Cardiff - Maynard, Le Fondre, Macheda

How many of those would seriously improve our chances of challenging at the top end? Quite a lot, in my opinion. How many of our strikers could possibly get in their teams? Only Igor, again in my opinion. Only Brentford appear to be "punching above their striking weight" and maybe that's down to a more adventurous, high pressure style they seem to have adopted.

I think the case for better striking options NOW is pretty strong, if we want to mount a challenge. The defence has been our strongest area this season; the midfield has been strengthened overall; Igor has been great - but he can't keep carrying the goal scoring load on his own.
  • In just 12 months the club is transformed from a bottom six side to one knocking on the door of the top six. It's not about individual errors of judgement or performance but about the whole strategy delivering a top half team which may deliver the best finish in what, seven seasons?

The January window is almost upon us and even Phil Chapple has repeated (in TNT this time) the mantra that one or two quality players will arrive if we are still challenging. It is pretty obvious that these targets will have been identified by now.

Tucudean needs to finish more of these chances else he is going to see himself left on the bench! Not scoring yesterday is not the issue. Peters, Meire and Staprix / Duchatelet have put together the squad he has another five games to prove himself.

@Davo55‌ I may be wrong but I'm thinking every one of those strikers you list (except Kermorgant!) changes hands for £3m+. It's going to be expensive as well as risky to get this one right.

Another exception is Vydra who is on loan from a network club (for the second time) but I don't think Liege can help us as they sold all of their forward talent over the summer.
So perhaps our scouts are looking at Ligue 1, the Eredivisie or Denmark to land our new #9?
  • So if Tucudean scores that chance on Saturday we are higher up the table and we bring in better players and he doesn't play hmmmmmmmm

    .....................that explains it then
  • Just an observation but Tuc has two more goals than £4m Andy Delort. Careful what you wish for.

If Delort had signed for us and missed that chance I'd be getting teardrop tattoos.

Sure. And as @harveys gardener says, it's quite possible to make an expensive mistake. Bamford is also a loanee, and would be virtually impossible to land on a permanent as things stand. But, if we were prepared to shell out a substantial sum for Delort, then Assombalonga and Wilson, for two, would quite probably have been within our reach. I know I'm being impatient, and i'm very happy with how far the club has come in the past 18 months, but I can't help thinking that just one more player, a striker as good as Igor (plus maybe making Coq a permanent feature) would probably propel us into the top 6. Let's hope Roland is prepared to make the necessary investment in the players.
  • Sigh...if only we had kept that Breton guy we are not allowed to mention... :-(

Where do you get it from he has another five games to prove himself? Baffling.

    Davo55 you are the man.

I suppose all of these clubs have more dough than us, I don't think so.
