BP: Tucudean had golden chance to sink Millwall at death

Clear Penalty, the Millwall defender has lost his head and just decided to stop George rather then worry about the ball, ref bottled it, was not gonna give a penalty that late in a derby.

Anyway with Buyens off the pitch we probably would have missed it, just to make the what if agony even worse.

We're all sitting here with that wonderful benefit called hindsight. We've all had a look at the video. There's one mistake by Tucudean. He lobbed the goalie, but didn't hit it hard enough for the ball to enter the goal.
I thought Tuc. was a bit unlucky. It's now one of those 'if only' moments.

'If only' we had not signed Tucudean we could have bought a better striker.
    Who is this better striker?

We look better with him in the team because it means there are two players up front rather than one, that's all. Nothing to do with the fact that it is George.

He has had chances laid on a plate for him in the last two games and he has made a hash of both of them.

Sorry but if you're one on one with a keeper and you somehow can't even manage to shoot, then it's not 'unlucky'.

Darren Bent used to miss a couple of decent chances EVERY match. However he did make his own chances and score a few. George needs a run of (home) games.
  • It's pretty clear it was no penalty when Tucudean does not appeal. The defender simply got in front of him. George should have gone for the blast but hindsight is a beautiful thing!
  • Can't see a penno there.. He just didn't have the legs to carry on and execute what he was attempting. Defender allowed to put some pressure on IMO, if the controlling touch had kept it closer to him then maybe a penalty shout

Neither of the misses v wall and v reading are horrendous but they do smack of a striker who is going to convert 50% of one on ones at best. He tried something similar (too many touches!!!) at Derby and it came off twice to good effect. But trying to waltz round the keeper rather than slotting it past him is going to leave you looking like a mug if it doesn't come off.
  • IMO not a penalty. For him
To take a shot in the position he was in would have been hard to place perfectly, the keeper probably would have gotten a hand to it. Good defending, terrible luck

Zigic who was with Birmingham is back training with them, seemingly with the view of resigning.

Yes he was on 50k a week but Birmingham offered him a contract in the summer for 5k and turned it down, he obviously has had a rethink!

    Vetokele

    Ahearne-Grant

    Tucudean, Parzychek, Church, Pigott

One striker, One good prospect, Four not good enough. You can see where the January transfer kitty needs to be spent.

Pp is how old? And how often have you seen him play? I think it's a year early to right him off.

Pigott I agree but hope he makes it

Tucadean shows glimpses of a player. Consider this, he is 22 and in a country where he knows very little people and plays in a league where he has no experience. Can he even speak English to a high standard? Probably higher than most millwall supporters. Give him time to settle

  • Frankly, the keeper did well, George didn't have time to analyse the situation, he had to make the choice and the shot in an instant and in the end, he misjudged. Sitting behind the goal it looked like it could have gone in on another day, it was as much bad luck as bad technique and while perhaps not a penalty Vetokele wouldn't have beaten 2-3 defenders and the keeper with one shot either.

  • He tried a flick over the keeper which if their defender hadn't tracked back so well would have left him with a tap in. In hindsight yes he should have gone for the shot first off as it ended embarrassingly for him. Could have been good, it wasn't.

Sounds like he scores for fun in training which is encouraging. Just need him to do that in matches.

    Zigic? Zigic??

Jesus Christ. 32 goals in five years in English football, countless complaints made about his attitutde and 34 years old. Sign him up..
    1998–2001 AIK Bačka Topola 76 (68)
    2001–2002 Mornar 23 15
    2002 Kolubara 8 (3)
    2003–2006 Red Star Belgrade 79 (47)
    2003 → Spartak Subotica (loan) 11 (14)
    2006–2007 Racing Santander 32 (11)
    2007–2010 Valencia 28 (5)
    2009 → Racing Santander (loan) 19 (13)
    2010–2014 Birmingham City[a] 128 (32

But looking at these stats they are not too bad
  • For all you who are saying George should have blasted it, hands up who slated him for doing just that at Brentford?...........
  • That was superb defending from the 17 and the other guy who cleared it - lovely touch from Tucudean to go over the keeper, that's not easy to do.
  • When I saw the title of this I thought ohh no.. bobs gone and done a bad interview slating a player and it will knock his confidence.. somehow though he's managed to handle this well and I think he has tried to build up George on there and back his player.. good bit of management from bob!
  • I don't see George did much wrong. Beat the keeper and then stopped from knocking it home by good defending.

I will hopefully get chance to see it from a different angle as i did not think the defender got a touch on the ball from the shot i have seen, just seems to bundle into George but fair play if it was good defending to get a touch on the ball from his postion of having to catch up.

George George George... you could of been a hero to the red three quarters of South East London!

  • He had no pressure on him with that shot, plenty of time and 1 on 1. Its the sort of chance that most strikers hope for. Sorry but its a poor miss.
  • Maybe Harriott should have carried on running after the pass in anticipation as he was level with the second defender who made the vital 2nd block

  • I've convinced if George hits it low then Forde saves it. The keeper did bloody well to close the angle in my opinion.
  • GT first touch was awful. Was not a hard ball to control but he made a meal out of it. Next time we buy a striker we really need to make sure it's one who can finish on occasion.

    Romanian Simon Church.
  • Watched it again this morning. He does the right thing in lifting it over the keeper. Forde goes down pretty early.

He just shouldn't have tried knocking it over him to run onto. Just lift it over him with a bit of power.
  • Not saying it was an easy chance but I think George was at fault for trying to be too clever. He lifts it over the keeper. Why not lift it over him into the goal instead of trying to faff about? I think every goal this guy scores for us will be worldies but he's going to miss easier chances.
  • I think Tucudean is better as the main man up on his own, but that's not going to happen with Igor fit obviously.

    Your joking of course?
  • If he went for the immediate strike (which would have been very difficult that quickly anyway) the keeper would have saved. Bad luck, and you have to say great defending (and goalkeeping).
  • Fookin infuriating tho!
  • So many missed chances this year .. investment in a proven goalscorer during the close season might well have had us much nearer a promotion slot .. BUT .. we are where we are and we have what we have
