Do we really want promotion this season ?

  • only if reams is made chief scout, director of football and head coach. Anyone else is not good enough.

the club has his details if they want him.

    He already thinks he is.
  • Do not want to be paying £50 and higher to have the pleasure of us getting spanked.

Plus matches being moved around for TV reason and making games impossible to get to.

Premier League is overrated for me IMO.

This. Nothing wrong with securing the clubs financial future based on improved income, but when the outgoings are factored in, how many clubs are better off in the premiership. Don't care if we're on the tv more, i only want to watch us live. I firmly believe that there is a difference in fans at premier and championship level. In championship and lower, fans are there for life. At premier many fans are there ONLY because it's a premier league game. Not saying these people aren't welcome and many may become lifelong fans, but the attendance figures show a picture of many new fans only come to watch to see us play an arguably bigger team. I was happy to watch us in league one and consider ourselves big fish in a smaller pond and see us compete and win regularly, than be played off the park every week even with a squad of superstars with super ego's.
  • Yes, because if we wait until next season to win promotion, the season after that in which we would be in the prem (16/17) I will be doing a year abroad and I just don't think I can face not being there! So let's go up for next season, have a great year and then I can follow our fall back down to league 1 from abroad! :D
  • Seriously though, I genuinely adore the prem despite all the dramatizing of every single event. Even if we are not there for long, the prem would be such a great experience, we wouldn't be getting battered every single week, I like to think we would be doing something similar to what Leicester are doing this year, rather than Burnley. Even if it were just a season, I'd love to put us back on the map as it were. As much as it pains me to say this, look what a few half decent seasons hav.e done for Palace. I want us to be doing as good as possible and that means to be playing in the Premier League.

Wouldnt hesitate for a second. The money involved in just a single season in the top flight could secure us even if we came back down. We would be playing against the top teams in the country. We'd be on Match of the Day again. We'd get far better coverage by all football journalism. We'd be in the limelight which would encourage greater numbers to attend. We wouldnt have to surrender 6 points to Millwall every season...

The list of benefits is massive.

    This.
  • Yes , it's embarrassing that Palace have finished above us for 8 consecutive seasons
And they have bigger attendances than us now , yes it's cos of Prem football but a few will stick like they did at ours
I want us to be Sarf Londons best supported as well as best team
We won't have to play the scum , another bonus
I'd rather see us struggle in the Prem than fanny about trying to make out how wonderful it is to scape another draw in the Championship and pretending this isn't as dull as dishwater
My 8 year old is starting to get small grief for supporting a chuff Championship team from Spurs , West Ham, Liverpool and Arsenal fans at school , who do actually go although not that regular
So being amongst them may make it worse as they hammer us or there may be a chance of the odd bit of glory , he who dares Rodney , he who dares
  • Yes even if we are relegated with no points from the Premeirship the following season. It brings to the club £100,000,000 over 4 years, a much needed imput. Now maybe half will go on players wages etc but would still set the club on better financial foundations.
  • Yes if we can use the money to invest in decent extractor fans for the toilets.

Have you ever hoped Charlton were not going to win the next game ?

No, but I have often hoped that people would get their brain into gear before they open their mouth.

  • Trouble is we go up now all we'd be doing is advertising our players...

    - Igor Vetokele scored upwards of 10-15 goals
    - Johann Gudmundsson gets a number of goals / assists and shows his quality (Remember he's on a two year contract which would run out at the end of our Premier League year)
    - Joe Gomez.. Jordan Cousins.. Karlan Ahearne-Grant all perform well and get snapped up.

If we were to get Relegated we'd then have once more lost the nucleus of our Squad, the re-building period would have to begin all over again (and the last time that happened we went down to League One)

  • Would love to see us in the Premier League, and we've a chance of getting into the play offs if we start turning a few wins into draws. Kind of a side story as well but one of my workmates recently got kicked off a Palace forum for suggesting they'd be better off in the Championship than the Premier League. That's what he says anyway. Would be fun to pass them by as they go down and we go up :)
  • Oops back to front - it's too early - that should read draws into wins!

You can't pick and choose when to get promoted, so take it when you can and enjoy the ride

Despite being happy if we stayed in the Championship this statement is the one true one... Cant pick and choose what Division we're in, just gotta support the team as best we can
  • There is no rule that says you have to waste Sky's millions on players called Campbell and their agents.

Getting beaten isn't the issue. We can do that at this level. I don't understand why anyone wouldn't welcome a season with cash rolling in and the Valley full. Best way there is to build support. Look at Fulham.

The only downside I can see is the ridiculous away ticket prices at some clubs. Bite your lip - it won't be for long!
  • Of course we all want promotion but thought of going in poxy premier league and struggle week in week out , if we do, would do my head in. Ridiculous ticket prices johnni come latelys turning up again booing if we're not winning after 10 mins.
  • It's better to get the money than someone else.

Even when Palace went up, everyone was convinced they would come back down again but at the same time were gutted that the money they would make from one season in the prem would be enough to secure them as a competitive championship squad for a few seasons.

I would like the Premiership money, but I don't miss the flakey supporters it brings with it.
  • It's funny how most of the players in our squad are playing themselves out of a job. Someone like JJ wouldn't get near the side in the premier league.

  • Looking at the table, Palace are in trouble. Cant see Warnock will keeping em up. The Pulis effect has well and truly left them.

In this instance of a possible promotion, I am glad Roland appears to be a cautious spender.

Well if you think any of these will be here in a year's time if we are still in the Championship I am afraid you are kidding yourself, unless they fail to develop.
The days of long term squad building are over.Just look at our squad two years ago,or two years before that.
If you want success you have to buy it and go for it quickly.
  • Also,if the owner does not want promotion the manager is not under pressure to deliver it and the fans do not care, then why should the players put the extra effort in?

Like when we (and countless others) tried to quickly buy our way out of the Championship when we were first relegated from the Premier League, that went well didnt it...

The only reason you dont see long term Squad Building these days is because Managers aren't given enough time to do it, Powell came in, he didnt like Parkinson's players so off they went, Peeters came in for Powell and out have gone Powell's players (I know Riga was ahead of him yet he didnt have a transfer window)... Its like when Curbs was in charge of us, of course there would be changes every summer (You've got to) the nucleus of our squad always remained
  • Of course the owner wants promotion, he is a businessman and likes making money. The point that you are missing is the manner in which he aims to achieve it. We undoubtedly have a long term plan to invest in the Academy with a strong scouting network, and to hit the Premiership with a squad that can hold it's place and develop further. That does not mean of course that we will achieve what we want, however the secret will be the people that he puts in place, and I like the look of what he has done so far.
  • I'd love to see us in the Premier League mainly because I'd be able to watch all the games on TV but I don't think now is the right time.
  • Every year I hope we get back to the Premier League so it's a no-brainer for me. Like Bankokaddick said, it would be amazing to watch almost every game live.
  • We all go to see how team/club be successful.
With success brings the premier league.
With the premier league brings money.
With the premier league brings expensive ticket prices.
With the premier league would bring possible immediate relegation.
With the premier league windfall puts the club back on a sound financial footing.
    Yes Please.

    our team/club even!
  • What depresses me is that we had PL stability not too long ago, and a lot of people weren't satisfied with it.

We blew all of our stability by giving Dowie a £10m treasure chest to spend on average/poor players.

The best we can hope for is to improve a little as a club each year, delivering a slightly better product for fans each year. If we got back to the top flight, I'd hate to see us gamble again like we did in 06/07
