I don't really see it happening this season but of course we want to win promotion. You can't choose when you get promoted, worry about the Premier League if and when we get there.
It's more that some supporters are more concerned with taking things one game at a time than thinking about the Premier League every match than not wanting to go up.
No it was never been mentioned that we would give promotion a real ho this season , there is a 3 year plan to get back to the perm we have only just taken the first step
I know our owner is Belgian and their fashion is a little behind the times but the perm should never be aimed for again!
Wouldnt hesitate for a second. The money involved in just a single season in the top flight could secure us even if we came back down. We would be playing against the top teams in the country. We'd be on Match of the Day again. We'd get far better coverage by all football journalism. We'd be in the limelight which would encourage greater numbers to attend. We wouldnt have to surrender 6 points to Millwall every season...
Seems to be an alternative method, being used by Burnley currently. They have spent comparatively little although still managing to sign 10 players, none of their wages are going to stop them making a decent profit this season. Yes they will go down but would a 15M, 60K a week striker have make a difference? Burnley would have been the most difficult "sell" to the pool of players available to the promoted teams so maybe its borne out of neccesity. I expect they are planning to come back stronger and be dominant in the Champ next season. They have players which if they keep, could have a better chance of performing well in the PL in 2 years time.
In order for this to work you need to avoid selling your best players after relegation which is going to be hard if they have shown aptitude at that level. Otherwise you get left with a squad of low morale and lacking talent, as we have seen with so many teams coming down.
Its hard to take a longterm attitude in football when a 90th minute deflection can be the difference between success and failure. I would hope if and when we go up, we avoid the classic tactic of signing the best players from the relegated teams at hugely inflated transfer fees and wages. Recipe for disaster.
Game is hugely different and a massive change in the last 5 years from 3-5 summer signings to 10-20 for most clubs. Turnover is huge, 1 year contracts for established players at Champ level are common now for anyone 30 plus. So very difficult to set longterm strategies. Our core priniciple, trying to develop young talent and add value, is going to be the key factor. 25K average gate potential so we would be relying on cute transfer dealings a la Swansea or Southampton to get ahead. These two clubs show it can be done.
If we did go up through the play-offs, we should be focussing on assembling a squad which could be Championship title contenders in 2016/17 rather than worrying about competing in the PL. Makes for a shocking season in terms of results though.

The answer for me is yes. As much as I have a personal issue with how the Premier League is strangling English football, it is the only place to be. I would love to see us have the calibre of player we had in Jensen, Bent etc.

WBA plans was to add the income they would get in the prem to that they would get in the prem (let's say £70m) to the income they would get after going down (let's say £50m) divide by two and that was their budget for the Prem season (£60m).
That meant they could spend but not all their money and they still have a big wad of cash once they went down. It meant they could have a good shot at going up again (which they did).
They yo-yo'd for a while but have now been in the prem for a good few years.
A little bird tells me this isn't a million miles from Roland and Katrien's plan if and when we make it.
Personally I still think we'll finish mid-table but FFP transfer embargos for others, a couple of effective signings and a lot of luck with injuries and suspensions then who knows.
Answer to the question: Yes, 'we' want promotion .. worst case is we come back down with nil points (say with a french accent) yet have a guaranteed income of millions and millions for the next few years .. the art would be to use that money wisely .. our bosses would assuredly do that, BUT not I hope on Standard Liege .. remember the last premier adventures in the very late 90s .. promoted, relegated, promoted and then established for a good few golden years

Gut feeling is we need another season or two for RD to get us really stable so we can push for the Premiership with some certainty. There is a real danger we'll yo-yo back to the Championship if we are not prepared, and worse still could bounce back down to League One trying to recover when rebuilding a Championship side after the Prem.
I really do want to be a season ticket holder of Charlton as a Premiership side - just for more than one or two seasons!
I have a good mate who is a Palace fan (oxymoron) and he dreams of being back in The Championship, he bloody hates it.

He just said he preferred it when you had a decent chance to win every game and the fans for both teams were pretty genuine and the grounds had atmosphere. The Prem is becoming sterile.

Yes for the financial benefits for the club but I kind of like being amongst the hardy few who venture up north against some ropey opposition in the winter. We'd sell out trips to Anfield or Old Trafford no problem but amongst the loyal at Rotherham on a Tuesday night is where it's at.
It's a great question Granpa, I want to see us keep improving , year on year, and feel like we are making progress, keep bringing through young talent to the first team, that are good enough to wear the shirt, and wear it with pride, and have an affinity and connection with the fans.
I want to support a well run club, that tries it's best , recognises the strengths and weaknesses of the first team and addresses them.
A board that supports its manager, but is not wasteful with money, I am concerned that our current manager has only got 8 months left on his contract, from the point of stability, and attracting new players.
As well as being a business, I do want to come away from the Valley or any away ground feeling entertained , and that the team gave its all, even if that doesn't always mean winning.
In a nutshell I'd love to get promotion, but only with a well thought through plan, rather than panicking when we get there of what we are going to do.
I'm not convinced that promotion is on the boards agenda this season, I'm sure they'd take it given the chance, but I'm not convinced that they will push the boat out in the January transfer window to get the players we need to achieve this target, I suspect as long as we are not getting relegated they are happy to trundle this season, and maybe have a push next season.

Burnley have quite obviously gone into the Prem with the intention of coming back down with the money. Good for them. How else would we get 50 million quid. Lets do it.
