Just got back, apologies if it has all been said before but here's my take on the game.

Started sluggishly and JBG gifted the initiative to the oppo with a dangerous cross field ball in front of our back 4 which was easily intercepeted resulting in a corner which they scored from in the 2nd minute! Thought Cousins could have stood his man up who went past him too easily for my liking to cut the ball back for an easy tap in.

Midfield struggled to get a foothold and were all poor. KAG was given his first start and looked bright and did ok but just seemed to want a little too much time before getting a shot off. He can only get better as he matures and finds the pace of the game easier. Igor was below par and must have been carrying a knock as did not reappear for the second period and neither did Jackson who was on a yellow and had been walking a tightrope. They were replaced by Moussa and Harriott the former managing to get us looking a bit better when we tried to go forward but there was no cutting edge and no height to win anything in the air up front.

The the CBs were not as assured and got outpaced on more than one occasion by their Wilson who was a constant threat all afternoon. Wiggins is still struggling with pace and confidence which meant Solly was the best defender in my book. Henderson made several good saves to keep us in the game but allowed Wilson to block a couple of clearances from pass backs.

The only shot on target I can recall was a decent free kick by JBG in the first half after he had been brought down but he did little else and was eventually subbed by our Wilson.

In summary a very poor performance with lots of players average and below, no cutting edge and so disappointing to give up the unbeaten run without a fight. :-(
  • FFS sake, we were going to lose one somewhere, bring on the relegation doom and gloom brigade, they must be rubbing their hands together now we lost one nil
  • I'll sum it up in word one word.

    Shit.
  • At the start of the season we looked exciting and a decent attacking side. Now we look awful going forward. That's the worry. The ongoing trend is one of decline unfortunately.
  • Bournemouth were very good and played just like last season, it was the most one sided 1-0 i have seen for a long time. Fact.

It can't be a surprise as they play the same way in every home match, pressing and chasing every ball.
    Henderson did some good saves.

Good to see other than one person, the blame for the defeat is not at any one player door,
the simple fact is man for man they were better.

I feared Simon francis would have a blinder, he plays as a wing back and now has a manager who plays to his strengths,

I guess the positives were, we did some block tackles which saved more goals in the 2nd half,
Kag looks a good prospect but would not have been given 90 mins if igor didn't have some issues.

we need to find some energy for Tuesday,

Remember there always people worse off, like the sunderland fans who got on our train at Southampton, after losing 8-0 and still had the round trip of 800 miles to face !

  • Posting without reading. We were poor, very poor and it was a very bad day at the office for everyone, KAG excepted. The main thing is it highlighted the deficiencies in the squad, deficiencies that I am sure BP is very well aware of. However there is no need to get all sucidal over it. In my opinion we have been punching above our weight so far this season and we are lacking in one or two areas to be serious promotion contenders. However if we can hang around in the top ten until the New Year and not lose touch of the top six then it can be rectified in January. Because of our start expectations have become too high.

We lost. We can start a new run on Tuesday. COYR.

Not every other team is managed in the style of Bournemouth, and our style may prove to be more successful than unsuccessful generally during the season.

I fear to type this out loud, but from the outside looking in we seem to lack fitness as expressed in energy, and competitiveness, and speed. The stats might prove me wrong, but it looks that way, although I am not advocating headless chickenism, but would like to see a bit more charge and zip around the team.

The other thing to whisper is about character on the field, commitment to the cause if you like, and whatever you may think of JJ he gives more in that sense than any other of our present midfielders. I would like to think that everybody can be as responsible as Jacko, Solly, TBH, Igor, and Bikey usually are, and to show it every game.

The poxy international break, crap away kit, and stupid bookies odds were probably the root cause, but we don't have much thinking/reflection/rehabilitation time this week, and for the players and management...well you've had your mini holiday, now for some hard work.

You are absolutely right, Seth - apart from doubting the most beautiful fundamental human quality - honesty. Our players do try their hardest - if they didn't, we in the Lower North would start a flaming riot. The problem is: They are being coached to the lowest common denominator: Don't lose - even when we are 1-0 up at home with 75 minutes to go. To finish eighteenth is good enough for many Charlton Lifers.

Why don't some of our players take the game by the scruff of the neck? They did it against Wigan and Derby - they got in to the box by speed and accuracy. I'll give you a vignette: In the third minute we hammered a shot, there was a ricochet, and while the defender was looking askance at his own partners and to the ref as if to enquire 'how on earth did this happen?', we had taken the corner and were in again.

Hamer and Elliot were coached to release the ball as soon as caught - a well-rehearsed guided missile to one of our strikers, and it worked. Now, we have a goal-kick, and our keeper puffs out his cheeks, waves all twenty-two players from left to right - troop, troop - breathes in and out, and hoofs it vaguely upfield. Any momentum that we had ten seconds ago - let alone two months ago - has been killed stone dead. During the composing and waving and positioning and ordering, my neighbour in the Lower North is well in to a conversation with his neighbour about the best mulch for their allotments.

  • awful performance, not enough movement off the ball. you simply cant play buyens and jackson in the middle, neither are effective going forward and are to static.

if it wasnt for henderson the score could have been 4 or 5, looks like a brilliant signing so far. we got our tactics horribly wrong today, every second ball went to them, worst performance i have seen for about 4 or 5 years.
  • We Were poor today, and we didn't look like scoring.

A Well deserved win for the cherries who got at us from the off. The goal was a gift and to be fair if they had taken other chances they could have gone in at half time 3-0 up. They also had some good chances in the 2nd half as well.

Bob Changed it around 2nd half but we were not going to get anything from the game today, not that bothered by a defeat as we were going to get beat by some one soon enough.

  • Henderson made some good stops today but is it me or does he just waste time/slow the game down whatever the score line or situation is
He seems to go on for an age when getting prepared to take a goal kick , painful and embarrassing to watch at times

Just an observation from the admittedly few games I've seen him in this season
  • I could have played centre back for bournemouth today, must have been the easiest defensive showing they'll make all season, they were never pressured. Even when harriott came on the two players furthest forward were him and JBG, there was just no one in the middle. Thats not a criticism of KAG, but a 17yo cant lead the line by himself.

    Totally agree.
  • Just got back bloody awful performance i was so fed up for the first time in ages starting looking at the latest scores of other games 20 minutes from the end, thats how bad we were.

No class in midfield and no punch up front. How long will it be before Vetekole has had enough and wants to leave.

Maybe being harsh but i thought Henderson was slow in getting down to what was virtually a tap in from 8 yards out.

Weve been getting away with it since the start of the season the tide will now start to turn.

Thought the ref today was crap, he was looking to give them everything in the first half and they went down far too easy....and 2 minutues extra time its always 5 or bloddy 6 at when were winning.

    this.

completely forgot to mention it, someone needs to be having a word with him. embarrassing how slow he is on the ball even when we are losing!

He was... but then he should have sent jackson off. Swings and roundabouts...

The Bizarre thing is, he does it what ever the score !

I don't think he is 100% fit, which shows how well he is doing overall.

  • Henderson is told not to aimlessly hoof the ball down the field and give it to the centre halves or full backs, fuck me even a 5 year old can see that, it's called football.
  • Watched on stream and was very disappointed with our play, totally out-played by a good team. My worry is, no Igor for at least Tuesday or even longer if it is his achilles. Next week we play Bolton and Fulham, both at the bottom, both with new/acting managers and both won today. Who is going to get the goals?
  • Well I took my son today as his first away game as a reward for all his hard work that saw him pass his 11+ last week. His reward was to witness complete failure.

Felt for KAG today but he never gave up or didn't stop wanting to see action even though the majority of what he tried did not come off.

  • This result/performance has been waiting to happen since Huddersfield.

Look at wikipedia to see that Peeters is punching above his weight.

Finish mid table and that is a success.

    Goodnight.

We could still be playing and we still wouldn't have scored.

Cousins imo was poor all game, and at fault for the goal, allowed their 7 far too much space on the edge of the box. Not even worth discussing JJ today, my love for him was severely tested in that first half. But to be fair the entire midfield seemed to disappear at times.

Now I'm all for playing the academy products ,but what on earth is the point when they're not ready? KAG was shite, it was almost as bad as Piggot against Millwall. Didn't win a header all game, sloppy first touch and his one shot on target was Church-esque. He looks in no way capable of being the holding striker we desperately need. Unless it was a ploy from Bob to show RD we need some more bodies in it was a wasted exercise.

Harriott again, useless. I wish someone knew what to do to help him get his spark back.

Thank god for Henderson today as without him it would've (and probably should've) been a rout.

Doom and gloom out the way, I think the international break screwed us and fingers crossed we'll regain the focus we've had by Tuesday. Im still relatively optimistic about how this season will turn out.
  • The blame must lie soley with the orange kit. We've lost every game we've worn it in...............

    Tango out.
  • Got what we deserved I'm afraid, nothing from a poor performance. No point in dwelling on it, need to try and put things right on Tuesday night, although we will need to perform a lot better than we did today.
  • Very poor performance, we don't look fit enough at times compared to other teams. Midfield complete disaster far to weak Bouyans a passenger and Cousins well less said about his performance the better.

Had it not been for some excellent saves it would have been a lot more.

Mind you the ref was useless which didn't help but by no way the main reason we flopped.

Has Bob run out of ideas?

Getting Gudmonsson "top fit" (as the Germans would say) is crucial. First of all he's got to get over the injury he appears to be carrying and then we've got to build his stamina up. He's a gifted player and if he has a good season so will we. Whether he stays in a wide position remains to be seen but I suspect he could be more effective in an advanced central role. In terms of his shooting ability and potential creativity, I'd say he's comparable to Adjarevic (and also comparable in terms of fitness).

  • Posting without reading - too painful to re-live yesterday. Other than Henderson and TBH, thought nobody really deserved any real credit. That was on a par to some of the performances from last season under SCP. It's a result that's been coming and hopefully it will do 2 things. Motivate the team to be more ruthless, far too many drawn games, taking the lead and little by little inviting more pressure until the inevitable equaliser AND that the squad needs bolstering in areas. It's all very well BP promoting the youth but as you could see with KAG, whilst one that looks promising, it is arguably a little too much for him to play 90, he faded second half.

It's not all doom and gloom but yesterday was so bad. Buyens probably should be rested, he has't had a good game for a while now.

  • Those who were there, does the team spirit still look good!
