  • Thanks for that, will try to be up for it on Saturday morning

Maybe it will be available afterwards on iPlayer
  • Not exactly prime time, but I'll try my best. Such an incredible day that it's worth the effort.

Really good this was, had Curbs, Kinsella, Mendonca, Illic, Quinn and Reid on it with Steve Rider and Steve Cram. First time I have heard the 5 live commentary of the game, not a patch on Mansfield or Pearce commentary of the same game
  • It was great, wasn't it. So many back stories to that game. Makes me want to take a holiday in Montenegro and shake Sasa's hand. Easy to get hold of on iPlayer
  • is it on Iplayer ?
  • Yes,yes,yes-listening to it now
  • Can`t find it at all, where is it?

  • Excellent, had hairs on my arms standing up listening to that.
  • Very good. Though notice Kins didn't mention his celebrations afterwards - I believe he woke up early the next morning at Lakeside shopping centre, still clutching the trophy....!
  • Brings back all the emotions! Took me a week to wind down.
  • Good listen brought back many emotional memories.

Great to hear Sir Clive. My all-time favourite Charlton player and a hero of mine as a kid. Quite possibly the best day of my life. It's giving me goosebumps just listening to this. Quality from the BBC.
  • Great listen, loved hearing Clive and Sasa especially, my Dad had been taking me to some games for a few seasons before but that was the day Charlton took over my life, still does.

I was 8 years old & if you had asked me that day and for months after i would have said Sasa Ilic is the greatest man in the world, he still has a special place in my heart.

    Cheers for posting the link.
  • Superb. Thanks very much for that. Now that is what makes CL the forum that it is. A nugget like this for someone who lives in California is priceless. Early morning over here, about the time I'd be listening to PeteF's commentary and missing it. Then, this is presented. Only just under 30 minutes I know but this has made my day.

I remember that day so well. I also flew back from the States for this game (just like Steve Cram) and it is without a doubt the best, most exciting, most nerve tingling, most whatever you want to call it, Charlton game I have ever witnessed.

    COYR!!!!!!!
  • Still get goosebumps when them goals go in!!! Best day of my life as a charlton fan (so far)

  • Best match ever. Great programme. Loved that quote from Niall Quinn, "that bouncer'll know who you are now".
  • If ever there was a game worthy of a TV documentary, this was it.

    Good listen though..........
  • Finally got around to listening to it today. A good programme which brought back some happy memories. Still on I player for the next three weeks.
  • I'm sure there was a programme on BBC radio before. I reember Steve Rider talking about keeping Monty talking during the penalties. I think it must be a repeat. But good to hear again.

There was another programme broadcast about the time we first got into the prem which was a sort of "Charlton back from the dead" show. It covered the winding-up order, groundshare, return to The Valley, promotion etc. One of the lads at work heard it and nearly crashed his car laughing at the bit about Mark Hulyers boatload of bananas which was going to clear all the debts (it didn't).
  • Thanks very much everyone who posted the link - I'll never tire of reliving that one (and just spent Saturday night with a Sunderland fan who was there).

"I brought on Steve Jones, went 4-3-3 and tried to open the game up a bit" said Alan Curbishley............................................. never.

I remember that one but there was also a programme about the final itself. So there were two programmes broadcast by BBC radio about us "Charlton back from the dead" and the one about the play-off final broadcast in the late 90s or early 2000s. So I think the play-off final one is a repeat. But as I said it's fantastic to hear it again.
  • They probably hooked that for being too unbelievable!
