They should ban standing when we score too. Think we should have all sit down after the game too instead of giving the players a standing ovation for 10 minutes.
Seeing as we never sell out why do all the fans who can't walk or stand for long periods always seem to want to walk up 50 rows of steps to sit down.
The OP was interesting as I actually thought the fans showed a decent level of responsibility for those around them on Tuesday and saw lots of standees moving so sitters could still see and asking that they could. This is the sort of thing that we should be able to sort out amongst ourselves and I thought I started to see that happen on Tuesday, will take time to get it spot on though.

The thing is it's always been like that. But too many people would rather whinge on here rather then just speaking to the people in front and asking them to swap.
Honestly don't think there was a problem on Tuesday. I thought it was just the left side that was standing, surely those who wanted to sit could have just moved to the front or to the right of our section?

Agreed - but I think for people who maybe don't go to lots of away games the informal protocol isn't understood (I.e sit in the front, stand in the back) and that's where the problems come in. Like I said on Tuesday I saw more awareness of others than I think I ever have done and I thought it worked mostly which is why I was surprised by the OP.
Have to say the 'this is the seat on my ticket, so this is where I'm sitting' argument is weird and self-defeating.
Depends on if the away end is sold out or not. At Rotherham the stewards advised us it was sit where you want. Common sense prevails there as they knew we had not sold out, and most regular away goers sit near the front, whilst the younger and fitter people went to stand at the back. Never saw any rows occurring at all, but it only works if the away end is not sold out and the stewards are a bit savvy.
I first watched charlton at The Valley in 1984 standing on the East terrace, I followed the club to selhurst with my dad and uncle and we stood on the sainsburys end, we then went to Upton park and stood in the north bank and then stood on the chicken run
I get passionate at football and prefer to stand, doesn't mean I'm a hoolie but for some reason at our club it seems that way
There should be safe standing at football but at the moment that isn't the case
As I said earlier and the organiser sums up perfectly every club does it so why can't we
I pick and choose away games these days but fortunately seem t choose the right ones
Some of the moaners on here either don't know football before 1996 or dont have a memory
Perspective from an old git. Some background. I have a condition called venous hypertension. To look at me you wouldn't know that anything was wrong (well, maybe?) but if I was to stand for 45 mins x two plus having walked to the ground I'd probably end up with blood leaking out of my ankles. Mrs cafcfan is fighting fit (literally! but only five feet tall. If we're at away matches we know these issues might cause us problems if other supporters are standing in front of us. So, we always ask the stewards if the seats are unallocated. If we get a "sit where you like" response we try to do a check around to gauge where we are less likely to have any standing conflict. Assuming we're at an end, somewhere near the front, off to either the left or right normally seems to be the answer. The occasional bobbing up and down (or peering around someone's shoulders in Mrs cafcfan's case) is not a problem. The only recent experience where standing was an issue for us was the Sheff Utd cup game. In the main, standing does seem to equate to singing and the noise levels do improve "the atmosphere". But a word of warning: your head will hurt, a lot, if you should be unfortunate enough to get in the way of Mrs cafcfan's umbrella.
what did these people who constantly moan about standing for 90 minutes do 30 years ago??
People had the choice of sitting in the stands or standing on the terraces at both home or away games, this still applies to most grounds where they have terracing Yeovil,Exeter etc.
Thirty years ago I stood on the East terrace with my Dad, who was older then than I am now, and we were both happy to do so. Same for away games. When the all seating came into force I was against it, as wanted to choose if I stood or not. However, after three lots of major cancer surgery in the past ten years, I could not stand for more than ten minutes if given the Lottery winnings for doing so. Thought I'd have to be in my 80s before this would happen, so please be tolerant of those who need to sit, its not always through choice.

The answer is above.

Personally I think that if someone behind asks you not to stand then you should sit down or move.
