Standing v Sitting

I don't think anyone felt obliged to sit in their "allocated" seat last night anyway. Me and my mate certainly didn't. There was enough empty seats to move into if anyone was obstructed or felt uncomfortable anyway.

By the way, I'm 59, my mate is 60 (still good looking b*stards tho ;-)) and we had some right noisy and standing gits all around us. Made it a bit of a different night from the usual sedate East Stand experience, and a bit of a laugh too.

There weren't any empty seats left! They got snapped up early by, in the main, the older and younger fans who couldn't see because people were standing!

Not got an issue with it when you are in an away end up north when only a couple of hundred have turned up or when you are at home in the North Upper. But when you are in a small enclosed area of seating that is, in the main, sold out people should be a little more respectful and considerate of the majority! But hey ho, modern attitudes etc.
Of course there were empty seats. I could see at least 20 from where I was.
  • When the ball is in the opponents half you stand, ( unless you have a doctors note)
When the ball in our half you sit,

when the ball's on the half way line it will be like question time in the house of commons.

up an down like a french wh yoyo.
  • I was in the bit standing on the left, and there was lots of empty seats in front of us (maybe you couldn't see them as we we were stood in the way) and further towards the front!
  • I agree with the poster, the standing at Norwich by a large number of 'fans' was totally uncalled for and out of order, selfish once a season day trippers showing off .. we are Charlton, we are 'ard, no-one likes us we don't care and we don't give a fig .. until the regulations re sitting/standing are changed, do the right thing, sit down, watch the game, cheer, shout, whatever, but do not fuck up the experience for fellow Addicks fans around you
  • Once a season day- trippers.....Norwich away midweek. Hardly. I'd guess most there are at least semi regular away from home.

if you weren't there .. guess on
  • Genuine question Lincs - Have you ever breached the 70mph speed limit on our motorways?

I have many times. I'd be surprised if you haven't (if I'm wrong fair enough) in which case regulations, laws and rules mean nothing to you when it suits.

    Fair point or not?

  • As the default position (no pun intended) is to sit down , then the onus to move, is on those who wish to stand.

Those people who think it their right to stand and block the view of others, are extremely selfish. One day they will be unable to stand and then they may just realise how selfish they have been.

don't believe that for one minute
  • The sitters were located in the stand first, if they had been just half smart, they would have sat on the left side, knowing nobody could then stand in there way, fact is they never and thus the only space to stand in when we arrived at ko happened to be in front of them.
  • Just to clarify ifmI'm standing and people behind me are sat with nowhere to move, then of course I'll sit (Unless its Millwall or Palace - I mean come on).

I also agree that if people want to stand and there are empty seats further back they should move to stand, rather than stand in front of sitters.

Boro managed it fine on Sat - 90% stood with a few sitters down the front.

Perhaps they were sitting in their allotted seats, so why should they move? You didn't HAVE to stand, you can just as easily sit and watch a match.
  • I appreciate I didn't have to, I chose to. You didn't HAVE to stay in you alloyed seat and not see, you chose to.

I wasn't there, but why should someone have to move just because you want to stand?
Perhaps they have difficulty in moving and that's why they didn't move. Not everyone is able to move about as easily as you. From your name I suspect that you are quite young and don't appreciate how difficult it is for some people to move.
  • Well that's were you assume wrong! I'm in my 30's, and attend the game with my 70yr old dad who is disabled and does have trouble walking and standing, so he sat on far left, where his view would be unobstructed. If said people were not mobile, they couldn't have climbed 3/4's of the stairs to their seat, they would instead have sat nearer the exit to the concourse where the empty seats were in fact located!

  • what did these people who constantly moan about standing for 90 minutes do 30 years ago??

    I was wondering that.

No wonder our attendances can be so low, we moan fans away.

They were 30 years younger then !

Love to see you young 'uns in 2044!

  • Older people stand up and down the Country every week at all levels. At non- league its often the only option.

Lots don't have a choice with 100% standing in sold out away ends every week.

At least with Charlton you can nearly always sit if you want - you may need to get in earlier to get a appropriate seat or move to another seat but usually it's fine.

    Really....?
  • People want to know why fans don't choose to watch away matches?

    The answer is above.
  • Len,

Name me the away games in the last 5 years that we have sold out and the whole end has stood, thus forcing people to stand.

Millwall last two times ( plenty sat in the upper for the 4-0 defeat - nearly as embarrassing as what happened on the pitch).
    Palace
    Fulham in the Cup.
    Sheffield United in the Cup.

Am I missing any? Avg of one game a year. Hardly enough to deter people.

Like the Rotherham game for example, my seat was near the front (at home games my seat is in the upper north so I am used to standing up at football and prefer that as well) so I knew I would want to stand up so I never went to my ticket seat I found a empty seat at the back and moved there
