  • I was really impressed with Joe Pigott when I watched him for the U18s and U 21s. But he seems to have hit a brick wall. I think that he will end up with a 2nd Division club.
  • Suspect this is the beginning of the end for Joe's Charlton career. Prove me wrong please Joe.
  • Hopefully this will toughen Joe up a bit, and give him a chance to show what a good finisher he can be.

It really is make or break for Piggott right now I think. Peeters and the Duchatelet model both favour playing youth and increasing their value... but if that value remains low they can be pretty ruthless about getting rid. I hope he does well but if he doesn't, I doubt we'll see him in a Charlton shirt again.
  • He must be aware that he needs to impress in the next few weeks, or face rebuilding his career elsewhere.

In hindsight, throwing him in against Millwall did more harm than good, and probably dented his confidence. But at some point you have to assess whether a player has the mental toughness (as well as physical attributes) to compete at higher levels. I wonder whether Joe is a classic 'flat track bully' who can bang 'em in against an inexperienced or lower-grade defence, but struggles when up against quality. I hope it's not true - we clearly need more depth among our strikers.

So best of luck Joe, but it's time to deliver a bit...and if you can't deal with that pressure, you're probably not ready for us...
  • Pigott scored twice for Newport in their 4-1 win at home to AFC Wimbledon.
