Minute silence before the game would have been necessary. At least there wouldn't have been the case of half the crowd not knowing what was going on. The scoreboard wasn't exactly helping to inform people either.
Don't want to make a big thing of it, but was there any reason given why the players weren't wearing black armbands?
Thought it was poor form to be honest. Though todays players wouldn't know.Whitey, I'm sure they would respect the fact a fellow pro and good servant of the club died at just 43.
Did no one think of it, or.was a deliberate decision?
I said that to my brother when the players came out, it was very disappointing to see them not wearing Black Armbands And also would a minute silence before the game been to much to ask for, the applause on the 10th minute was great but other than that I was very disappointed
What defies belief for me was the minority of fans who DIDNT applaud. Why wouldn't you?
They didn't know maybe? The club didn't make an announcement and not everyone at the ground reads this site, Facebook or bbc sport.
There was an announcement about 5 minutes before the start but it just wasn't very audible - in the East Stand at least. With a pretty noisy crowd pumping it's easy to see why some fans missed it.
We will be wearing black armbands at some point in the future for some administrator from UEFA or similar, who wouldn't have known CAFC from a hole in the ground.
Odd decision, but it didn't detract from the fact that DW was a proper fans' favourite on the pitch.
Yeah, I dont want to moan or turn a sad event into a negative. But I was disappointed big time in the efforts the club went to for Whytey.
We had a minutes applause that could easily just been done by the fans alone. And half the crowd were not even chanting the famous David Whyte Whyte Whyte song (although that could just be down to the youngsters not knowing it). No black armbands, and no formal minutes applause complete with stadium announcement before kick off.
It may have been down to the wishes of his family though who were at the game.
Assuming publishing deadlines allow, I would like to see a feature in the programme on Tuesday and also DW on the front cover.

I'm sure I saw something on the scoreboard, but I guess they may not have noticed.

I also thought it strange that there was no minute silence/applause, when we seem to have them for all and sundry with no Charlton connection.
