Another one nil win today, away to Racing Santander. Alcorcón are on a decent run and right in the playoff mix now.
Are you going to the games Madrid ? Do their supporters have any idea if Charlton, how we're doing or strong beliefs one way or the other on the "network" ?
Planning to go next weekend for the first time - Mrs CharltonMadrid's birthday treat for me. Will get in there and find out what the locals think of us and get a good look at the players. Have liked the look of David Rodríguez in the televised matches I have seen.
Nasty incident before the Atletico Madrid v Deportivo match today, MA! Has there been a history of trouble between the sides? Deportivo fans I met at the Granada game I attended were great. Invited me and my mate to their temporary supporters centre for drink and food and seemed a really happy go lucky crowd.
Sadly, that nasty incident has turned into a death. After violent clashes before the game, a 43 year old Deportivo fan was pulled from a river near Atletici's stadium. He was suffering from cardiac arrest, hypothermia & head injuries and he died in hospital.
I was at the Atlético-Deportivo game yesterday but didn't know anything about what happened until after the match. As well as being horrific it seems extremely strange: there is not any real rivalry between the teams or their fans and there generally isn't much trouble at matches, generally due to the fact that there are usually only a couple of hundred away fans at matches.
Reports are suggesting this was a pre-planned fight between ultras, with Atlético's Frente being joined by Sporting Gijon's firm and Deportivo's Riazor Blues backed up by Rayo Vallecano's Bukaneros and Alcorcon's Alkor Hooligans. Alcorcón have already put a statement out to condemn the violence.
They've still got a nutter element at games over here. I support Deportivo over here. I was at the Espanyol-Deportivo match at the end of october. I did'nt wear a Deportivo shirt as Espanyol have (or at least had) a nasty neo nazi element, who you would'nt want to meet in a dark alley, but the game was played in a great atmousphere. I was in the Deportivo end, and they managed ninety minutes of good natured, non stop singing, despite the team showing the sort of defending that put Dartford in a relegation spot last year. Then on sunday, I hit the internet to see the result of the Atletico-Depor match to find out one of the fans had died. They've been showing footage of the battle the ultras managed to arrange on sunday on the news this morning, and it's like another planet. There has been a large element on fórums in Spain that point out that the Deportivo fan who died (father of two ffs) went to Madrid for a fight and got one, and depressingly, that looks very much the case. There's a bit of finger wagging going on, especially concerning why they did'nt call off the match given what had happened, but rather like Spanish politics these days, it mostly consists of everyone saying 'don't blame me'. Deportivo apparently advised that at least fifty of their nastier fans were travelling down, but as it was a fixture that had'nt generated much problem in the past, it was classified as low risk. Atlético have a history too ( a Real Sociedad fan died near the stadium back in the nineties, but this fight also had elements from Rayo Vallecano, and bizarrely, our new sister club, Alcorcon. Sadly, the underlying opinión is that a lot of clubs tolerate these sort of fans as they bring atmousphere to the games (Jesús Gil cheerfully tried to deny any involvement of Atlético radicals when the Sociedad fan died) and while that continues, football is going to be what these guys call home.
Despite there being no real rivalry between Atlético and Deportivo, it seems this fight was arranged through WhatsApp to settle a score from last year when a group of Atlético fans in A Coruña celebrated Atléti's title win in the fountain in the city used for Deportivo's own celebrations. Since then this game has been planned as the day for revenge. Pathetic behaviour from grown men.

Interesting stuff. I spend quite a bit of time in the Granada/Jaen area and as mentioned in the past my local bar is run by a family from up North who are big Deportivo fans. I attended my first La Liga match with them earlier in the year when Deportivo visited Granada. I couldn't get over how chilled everyone was with supporters from both teams mixing in the ground without a hint of trouble. So this has all come as a surprise to me. Only nastiness I have experienced has been between Real and Barcelona fans watching a game in the bar. This was more about the Catalan separatist issue than anything else.
Both Deportivo and Atlético have taken action today to ban ultra groups or shut the section of the ground where they sit.
Going to the Alcorcón match on Sunday so will see if there is any reaction to some of their own fans being involved. Considering they usually get less than 3000 attending their games, the 'Alkor Hooligans' must be a very small group.
When I first moved over here, I used to travel away with Deportivo occasionally, and also found the pre match atmousphere wonderfully laid back. One night in particular in Bilbao the day before the match, with the fans all wearing scarves and mingling cheerfully despit being completely blitzed stays in the memory. It was all a bit innocent of me though. It turns out certain teams get on wonderfully with some and loathe others. I never Heard of anything serious between Atlético and Deportivo, but I was in Seville with Depor - huge friends and no bother, and then Zaragoza - mad hatred and was happy to get out of Zaragoza alive. If you're English and don't know the country that well, it turns out there's all sorts of weird undercurrents going on that you just don't notice till someone hits you over the head with a piece of two by four. Mind you travelling six hundred kilometers for a battle in the shadow of football really beggars belief.

Reading between the lines, I think in these cases it tends to be political. Spain has several major political faultlines that are far bigger than here: Spanish nationalism vs regionalism/ Basque, Catalan or Galician nationalism; Catholic church vs secularism; Monarchists vs republicans; as well as all the normal class and local grievances people have everywhere.
So Bilbao wouldn't have a problem with a team from Galicia or Catalunya because they have something in common. Likewise, they would be unlikely to face many problems with a team with left-leaning support like Sevilla or Rayo.
Espanyol may be from Barcelona, but are right-wing and centralist - their name means Spanish Football Club - they identify with Spain and Spanishness rather than Catalonia. A Castilian Spanish nationalist (supporting Real or Atleti) would say of them "these are the team from Catalonia that are acceptable".
I was quite surprised to read of other fans (including Alcorcon) being involved. It was more depressing to read the details of what had gone on. But why should we be surprised at someone's age and responsibilities? It's not like it hasn't happened here as well - a few years ago a 56-year old Millwall-supporting grandfather was nicked at some trouble.
Alcorcón at home today to 20th place Sabadell. A win and dropped points for Real Betis and Zaragoza will put Alcorcón in the playoff places. Will update later.

Didn't make it to the game as the wife is ill, but will make long overdue appearance soon!
Alcorcón won 3-2 with another two goals from David Rodríguez. Up to sixth place, at least overnight as Betis and Zaragoza both play tomorrow night.
Another bad weekend for Deportivo though. Missed penalty sees them in the relegation zone. Saw something about them selling tickets for 1 euro to try and get the fans in. Closed the area where their ultras normally congregate.
This Sunday Alcorcón are doing a special deal for their home game against Tenerife: free entry in exchange for two kilos of food, which goes towards a local food bank. A nice bit of community spirit in the Christmas season.
Disappointing 0-0 tonight and Alcorcón miss the chance to go into the playoff positions, staying in 7th place and one point off 6th.
Still, doing well to keep up with the big teams above them - some of the famous names of Spanish football like Betis, Valladolid and Zaragoza. To finish in the playoff places would be a real achievement.
Yes - saw them play earlier this season as they are in the same league as the team I follow in Madrid, Puerta Bonita.
It is the fourth tier of Spanish football but there are 17 leagues at this level, one for every region of the country. The top four from each league go into a complex playoff system with 18 teams going up to one of the third tier leagues, of which there are four. My team was in the third league (segunda last year but got relegated.
Roland Duchâtelet, President of the AD Alcorcón SAD, has taken the last day of 2014 to take stock of their arrival at the club potter, almost a year ago. In addition, our chief executive wanted to use this time to wish all the best wishes yellow family facing this new year.
. A point a year of his arrival met the AD Alcorcón, what value does all this elapsed time ?.
Undoubtedly, the experience is very positive, so I am very satisfied. We are a small and humble club, with many opportunities for growth while magnificent values, which makes us become a big club.
. Has always stressed its special commitment to the relationship between fans and club, what is your opinion of the social mass ?.
We have a great hobby, I have always received great love and welcome, so I have to thank públicamente.Ellos are the best possible "ambassadors" of the Club and with them, we are sure that everyone understands what the values AD Alcorcón. We will continue working with our subscribers and followers to make larger entity.
. The Club is strongly committed social awareness as the fight against violence and support charitable causes, has like what you ?.
The AD Alcorcón has been, at all times, in front to stop any violence. We are very proud and satisfied with how we have proceeded much in recent performances and the general tone of the Club to tackling these situations. Football and sport in general, not only have to be completely detached from any hint of violence, but should support any type of social initiative for the most disadvantaged and their integration in society.
. In this sense, women's football team is having a very positive start to the season, will he continue to support the development of women's football in our club ?.
Yes, of course. If we analyze how are the political leaders in central Europe we realize the important role of women in society, and Spain working in this line also so it is important that we share that objective and show strongly that women have to enjoy the same rights as men. The women play football is the best example of this, so from the AD Alcorcón will continue betting very hard for it.
. At the beginning of the season came many new players, what did you think of the trajectory of the team in these first five months ?.
Undoubtedly, until the result is still amazing, considering that we had to integrate many new players and in a short period of time. We are very pleased with the great work done by both the coaching staff as footballers.
. Our coach, José Bordalás, is doing a very good season, what is your opinion of our coach ?.
Her work is being superb. He is a great coach. He has achieved thanks to the work of the rest of the coaching staff and players of course that all clubs in the league ahead, we have a great respect when playing football against us and that we value greatly.
. Finally, in this Christmas, what message would convey to our social mass ?.
To our fans, I wish you a Happy 2015 full of hope, health and happiness. The most important thing in life is to be happy. Of course it depends on many things we can not always control. So far, most of our happiness is in our head.
Cheers #CharltonMadrid. All local stuff, no mention of Charlton and if it mentions any other of the clubs or the network, I can't see it for looking. I presume it's a foible of google translate that he describes it as "a hobby". Also when he talks about getting "a great welcome", does this mean he actually goes to Spain and has met some fans? Would it be getting my hopes up too much to believe that RD might actually come to Charlton when the weather warms up a bit?
Just ploughed through that. Mostly fluff. The team are great, the manager is performing magnificently, lots of political parties in Europe have women so it's great the women's five a side team are going strong etc etc. Nothing of note that I could find, thougj after the first couple of lines I mostly skimmed, as I think RD probably did.
I am sure this will be unpopular this week, but Alcorcón are currently playing Ponferradina and if they win they will go into the playoff places. Currently 1-1 in the second half.

New interview for the new year with RD. In Spanish so put it through Google translate if interested.

RD not hated at Alcorcón at moment...
