I think this is abit harsh, just after easter so people are a bit skint and on a Sunday so people have work the next day, not a game we could have expected to sell out.
you're right southend , abysmal support considering situation we're in... i didn't go, but i followed us everywhere for 10 years, (i've done my time!) .... we've got a premiership team but we've got non league away support
I know the away support is poor but this is a tough one. Everton away on a Sunday afternoon with the trains buggered up again is a really big ask of the fans, people would not be getting home till near midnight and then up for work on a Monday morning.
fair play to those that went but we've been back at the valley for nearly 15 years now and the club/team has just got better and better during this period and with home support having risen from 8k to 25k why has our away support stayed relatively stagnant in comparison to this... the team deserves much better support away from home...FACT
Fair enough we have around 25k home fans at games but let's be honest we all know that many of these come for cheap premiership football. Our hardcore support is probably nearer to 16-17k and out of that you're not going to get 2 or 3k regularly going away. Most teams in the premiership with good away support all have gates over 30k with the only exception being Portsmouth but they have a large catchment area.
According to the Telegraph 442, Everton's lowest away crowd for ages! That said we made a good noise were consistently behnid the team and remarkably there were only about 20 or so who stood! Where were all those who were at Man City and Watford but not at Goodison?
I reckon 6/700 we had there. Made a lot more noise than the 1.7k we had at Watford to be honest. Really enjoyed being able to sit wherever I wanted again which led to standers being able to stand and there being no infighting amongst the fans.
[quote][cite]Posted By: PalaceHater[/cite]Let me just add, listening to 606 on the way home and some of Talksport various Everton fans called in and said how loud we were.[/quote] Well done mate, that's a great effort. We tried our best at Valley Floyd Road in the pub (i started that...) but alas.
Lets crank it up a notch for Sheff Utd and even more so for Blackburn (which could be a bit more difficult)

On the everton rivals site it says we had 440 up there.
the numbers were poor, but it would of been a different story if a saturday at 3pm. Moving it to the sunday convinced most people to save their trip to the north west for a couple of weeks time IMO.
Last three away games are Everton, Blackburn and Liverpool, all close to each other and the other end of the country. Something has to give, and it looked like for most it was Everton. We don't have support in numbers scattered round the country like other clubs, so this will always happen.
For some it's about money, and if you can watch it in a local pub on arab telly, you're going to do so, they'll 5,000 plus at Blackburn to see us do the business there
we have to pay london cost of living and house prices, and despite higher wages this makes us worse off than our nothern counterparts in relative terms, thus they have more disposable income. Additionally trains are cheaper get a return and don't start the outward journey from London.
[cite]Posted By: Chris_from_Sidcup[/cite]Did i hear a rumour that there's a court case going on over TV rights and that the arab tv showing the football may not happen next season?
No, a land lady from Portsmouth is trying to win a case that would make it legal to show foreign channels in pubs.
As it stands it is currently illegal so nothing but tighter policing of pubs will stop it, one would hope that the police have better things to do in London than harass a few landlords showing some dodgy TV.
Sky bring it upon themselves with their ripoff rate prices.
i'm not sure what the punishment is if pubs get "caught" doing it but any fines of a couple of grand must be offset by the increased revenue taken?
And if police were running around the pubs every saturday and sunday looking for people watching football rather than doing something useful i'd go mad

your right stu, i saw somewhere that an annual sky sports (and pp and the likes) subscription for a pub is around 1200 smackeroonies and month! scandelous really, considering that some people pay like 70 odd quid for sky tv if they have multi room and sky plus! its a foookin rip orf and gets on me beard (ok tits)!
I didn't go. I thought about it but I would have been unable to take my son, with school the next day and that would have been difficult for him to take. In the end I decided against it and have plumbed for Blackburn and Liverpool.
I think the game being on a Sunday and at the end of Easter hols must have made a difference. I also think the publicity surrounding the Blackburn game may have meant people choosing that game over the Everton one. Good to hear that those who went made a big noise. More interesting is that we made a loud noise despite the fact that "only 20 or so" stood.
i know of one pub that has got threatened with a £15k fine if they foreign channels.
the showing of games in pubs is a debate for another day. Its going on everywhere throughout the country and its a very grey area at the moment while certain court cases are outstanding.
All the time people can sit in their bedrooms and download live games via the internet, its a non arguement.

It's up to a 20k fine I do believe, which would involve some session to offset that.
It also conflicts with certain licensing laws, meaning in theory a pub could lose their license.

Not at all, the law is quite different for Joe Blogs sitting in his room watching a game and a landlord showing a game taking in a money for drinks whilst the service he is showing is something he's meant to be paying for.

Says it all really.

25,000 fans and 2-3% follow the team to the most important match of the season so far.
Could you honestly not see West Ham or Sheff Utd not selling out at any game they could have played yesterday.
Sorry, no offence, there are plenty of good reasons not to go (money obviously) but lack of sleep before work isnt one of them.
We have a huge catchment area, almost the whole of Kent.
I think the problem is the hardcore is far less than you say, I believe it to be more like 10kish.

Either way the noise we made for 440 was easily one of the loudest away followings we have had for a while.
well done to everyone there.
Just think if we had taken another 1000 there.
