I can't believe people are seriously getting worried and fearing the worst after a 0-0 friendly draw in our first 90 minute game of pre season and played on a 3G pitch
Oh I can, I know it's hard for all the doomsters and gloomsters but altogether now 'always look on the bright side of life'.
I don't suppose it is helpful to point out that the last time the Charlton crowd sang that was when Tottenham confirmed Charlton's relegation from the Premiership to the Championship ?

Correct it is not helpful, that was consigned to my memory dustbin a long time ago :-)
I appreciate that even if some people on here want to interpret that as 'giving up'.
If posters on CL were not allowed to post what they thought about players performances on a game (training or otherwise) this forum would be as dull as ITTV with its one post per hour!
I missed the game so rely on other peoples opinions, these, of course become more 'worthwhile' as we get closer to competitive matches but doesn't mean people can't comment on the earliest games too whether positive or negative.
No problem with people giving their opinions but relegation fodder based on a couple of practice games, 45 mins yesterday and a 0-0 draw today on a plastic pitch with a squad still taking shape, god give me strength.
Bikey would be a great signing. 29 so good age for a centre back and he's got over 100 championship and 50 premier league games under his belt. Him and morro would make a top defence for any club in our division. Hoping we aren't in a relegation scrap so Gomez can start coming through in less pressure circumstances.
Agree with most of above esp sign JG tout suit. Only disappointment was lack of a visible plan to get ball from back to forwards. Seemed to be down to whoever had the ball to improvise. No Poyet to come & get.

Thought that may be the case that you forgotten that ;-)
Also probabley not helpful to mention that apart from a couple of reasonable defensive performances, that the Charlton team looked like a disjointed bunch of strangers. They looked like they had never played together, was not sure how to play together and would not have scored in a brothel in a month of Sundays ?

Interesting and insightful but I wouldn't have expected much more, there are a number of new faces and they will have played together a few times only in training so no real surprises for me at all. As for scoring let's wait and see what the final line up is, tactics and formation before giving up on success in a brothel :-)
Once again I didn't partake, listen or watch. I remember once we lost to Welling and got promoted to the PL that season. Games this early mean diddly squat.
If we'd won both games would the Roland lovers have been saying, 'They're just warm up games. No need to read anything into it.' Actually, no need to answer that.
No, instead everyone else would've told them to calm down, as its only a friendly.
Fact is, friendlies don't matter whether we win or lose. It's just fitness at this stage. If we beat Welling I hope nobody will be wetting themselves at the prospect of promotion to the Prem from it.
Complete mismatch in terms of 1st team starters/fringe players/U21's.
Everything so far in training has probably been fitness based.
I would imagine passages of play, tactics and individuals roles will come soon.
Perhaps Viewfinder could explain exactly what's been going on at Sparrows Lane.
Of course these results and performances don't mean much, but pre-season friendlies later on in the build-up can provide telling indications of what's in store. I've banged on quite enough about seeing all the signs of a struggling team in some of our friendlies last summer. Am much looking forward to seeing our new recruits at Welling next Saturday.
Just getting back to the hotel via a decent brewery, not the most gripping game but its hard to put into words how much the whole team were treating this as a run out, nothing more, we were sat among them and it was a training session that's all. A long way to come for a training session I know but it was good to see the communication from BP to Lawrie Wilson throughout the first half, they definitely all seemed happy with the new boss and it's clear they are just getting to grips with each other, lots of new faces out there.
A fair few addicks have made the journey, anyway a few pics.

I am most certainly not a Roland lover! But had we won the two games I would be saying let's not get carried away! A hat trick from the pig at welling last year comes to mind! I'm are the standard and STVV fans are not getting erections over beating a team only just started pre season with a lot of new faces!

If we have not already started, i can't imagine we are not close to offering him a big new 3 or 4 year deal with a pay increase.
Just need to keep the wealthy team vultures away from him until then.
:-)
