BP: I jumped at the opportunity to be Charlton Head Coach (part 1 of 2)

  • A relief that he's turning up next week, given the importance of this month in terms of potential contract renewals (although I expect that the extent to which RD's wallet can be prised open will be determinative in the case of Morro, together with the length of the deal on offer).

Disappointed that it's only a one year deal for Bob - hardly medium (let alone long) term planning, is it ? As someone commented earlier in the thread, compare and contrast the Richard Murray approach regarding the Curbs. Maybe Duchatelet's view is that the average tenure of managers of the 92 English clubs is only 1.8 years (a little less in the Championship) and that most head coaches don't last that long under him anyway.

Still, we are where we are and let's hope that Bob gets some proper backing and when arrives here next week, together with his fair share of luck going forward.
  • The emphasis put on youth in the interview seems to suggest and influx of players now, and then rely on youth for the future, and spend very little in the future.
  • Peeters look like 'an idiot abroad'... Lets hope he doesn't turn out to be one.
  • Although he has developed a reputation as a coach who puts his faith in youth, Peeters admits his current break is barely a holiday at all with the search for more experienced reinforcements to the Charlton squad having already begun.

I take that to mean that he is the one searching for them, which is good.
  • Anyone knows when part 2 comes out, just wondering if we have got to wait as long as we did for part 1 :-)
  • The length of a Manager's contract tells us nothing about how long he'll be in the job. It tells us how much he wanted it and what his bargaining position was. This guy clearly wanted to job. He'll stay in it if he's successful.
  • So how will he leave the club?

    Fired / peters out?
  • When he said "bigger club" he meant "massive club" didn't he?
Interesting though that there was no application process - he just got a call from RD who offered him the job. It rather indicates that it was never RD's intention to employ Jose long-term doesn't it? I just hope that Rd's instincts are right.
  • "selection/application process" LOL

    Like Riga?
Like Peeters. Wait and see! ;) (Riga was never promised a long stay if he succeeded lest we forget, that has come directly from Katrien.)
  • I jumped at the opportunity to be CAFC head coach..............

.................before they could sack me from my last job

    :)

But most people would have (and did) say the same about Riga.....?

  • Given some half-decent players, this bloke will be a legend. I've got an image in my head of him pushing Lee Clark over. Call it a prophecy if you like.

Paying them all very little and selling them on for good money, where and when we need help from the network we will get it in the form of unwanted players. And that my friends is RDs plan, it will be worked in League One soon enough atm. We will be 1000% the most inexperienced team in the league, good luck big bob.

Made me laugh out loud, although I have just finished drinking half a bottle of wine. Perhaps we should start a new thread, " Which managers would we like Bob Peeters to push over?"
