Someone must have done it, you wouldn't risk £500k on someone you didn't know inside out or had only seen on the football league show?
Yep, there's no way we'd spend good money on a striker without being sure that he was good enough or what we needed.
There's definitely no young, say Polish bloke in our squad fitting that description.
So when Man Utd, or Chelsea or any big team by a player for the future its ok, when we do it we have wasted our money Polish Pete will come good I am sure of it and he cant be that bad if Benfica and West Ham were looking at him to
"Barnsley lost their Boris Johnson look-a-like and talisman, David Perkins, to Blackpool in January so the player to watch is former Sheffield Wednesday striker Chris O'Grady. The archetypal lower league journeyman striker, he knows where the net is and makes a nuisance of himself. His missed penalty potentially cost Barnsley a point on Saturday at Bolton but he is already on 13 goals for the season."

How do know Benfica and West Ham were looking at him, other than the club telling us that
If you referring are Piotr Paryzsek I have only seen the one game on TV where he did look like a fish out of water, genuinely short on confidence, not presenting for the ball properly and misreading runs and crosses. So I am not going to get into argument with someone who has watched him regularly - they are entitled to their opinion but I can say I recall watching Derek Hales (and no there is no similarity in style of play at all) play for Derby and you would have thought he would struggle in the then Southern league let alone be a prolific scorer in the then Second Division.
The style of football they played was completely foreign to him - he genuinely looked lost. Hence he moved on to West Ham where he was OK but it was only when he returned to us he truly recaptured his form and was actually twice the footballer who left us. Whether PP has a similar career path in front of him I have no idea but if you check the local press you will see Benfica thought he had actually signed for them while Nantes local press had the local club in discussion with De Graafschap. I recall only one rumour concerning West Ham.
I suspect if you play to his strengths which De Graafschap appear to think is in the 18 yard box then may be we will see a much better player.
Celtic , west ham , benfica all wanted him and looked at him Nantes had a bid accepted but Piotr didn't feel they done enough for him , he's just been called up to the Poland under 21s again , such a strange situation when he ain't good enough for our reserves I hope it's just in he's head and will turn it around but not looking likely .
I don't think we need O'Grady - esp not at £500k plus. Keep faith with Reza & Paryzsek - give them a run of half a dozen games & I reckon they could just be the partnership that sends us into the Premiership........

Same way people are saying we have bid for O'Grady paper talk

I read an article somewhere, may have even been a home programme, where Piotr said he'd been flown over to Portugal, met Benfica officials, agreed a deal but he didn't think they made him feel wanted enough whereas Charlton bent over backward, made him really welcome, made him feel we really wanted him and that is why he joined us. Initially we were wanting him to join this summer but he wanted to come immediately hence the reason he signed in January. I think he'll come good.

Never seen him play but.... At the level he played there is little "pressing" so teams can afford to have a player that only comes alive in 18 yard box. In England, all eleven need to contribute all over the pitch. PP will go on loan to a network club then move or transfer elsewhere.

Would be interesting to see if Benfica would confirm that. I don't believe that these clubs were after him. Everyone who has seen him play has said how poor he is, didn't our own coaching staff mention how he was way below the level they were expecting? Poor man's Michael Smith.
Im not saying it makes him a better player, im willing to give him a pre-season with us before i write him off.
He may just have one of the best football agents in the world for making various sources believe then print nothing but invented rubbish, who knows, but a simple 1 minute google search does find many links that mention him signing for Benfica and then his stalled/failed move to Benfica whilst being linked with West Ham, Aston Villa and Nantes.
All seems very strange, if he really is such a terrible player.
I went on the De graafschap fans forum and there was plenty of discussion about Benfica, none about West Ham. They rate him, and called him The Ambassador. It must be an acclimatisation thing. Hope he gets the support to turn it around.
Stick to beat RD with? Hardly needs such an emotive description. Just an unwise and rather baffling signing, which you get from time to time. Such as letting Jorge Costa go and bringing in Gary Rowett.
He must have something even if he is not showing it in training for us right now, as i don't believe all those other clubs supposed interest and our signing him is purely based on his agents spin, so maybe the people giving him abuse or writing him off should give him at least next season to hopefully prove himself.

I rang the Benfica president earlier and he confirmed that they did want Piotr and were disappointed when he joined Atletico Charlton.
Come on pa look through any thread on RD or polish peter or yann and you will find pp being used as the stick that cracks across RD and his forehead

Kate Upton, she is rather lovely. I agree with you about Piotr, it is one of the things the anti RD lot use against him. I have seen him a couple of times and he was awful. But he is still a young man and with a close Season behind him and Peeters advising him, he could well come good.

He is very young and away from home he is in at a level he has not been before
You need to just hope that we sufficient coaches at that level to get him through this difficult time and allow us have the benefit of his ability
At the min he is a stick to hit RD with and that's being taken at every opportunity rightly or wrongly that doesn't matter
What does matter is that as a young player he is very media savy and reading shit on twitter etc isn't really going to assist his progress
