Just like to say that I thank you all for the support you've given me in the couple years I've had there. I've enjoyed it all....especially the first league goal against Birmingham. Some like me and some don't, which is completely fine as you can't be everyone's cup of tea. But I always gave my all and you guys gave it back to me and I felt real love from you guys all the time. All the best for the future and hope the club gets stability soon! You deserve it. I hope to get a club as I feel good again. But you guys have been FANTASTIC! Good times and bad you've stuck with me and the boys!
Be good! Corty.
Best of luck Leon. Always enjoyed seeing your name on the team sheet! Thanks for everything!

The above comments about the released players demonstrate how much more than merely "squad members" they are to us.
We look at them as part of our team but also as individuals in their own right.
In most instances, we have seen enough of their play to form an opinion & in most cases, a bond, however tenuous it may be.
With opportunities to meet with & speak to our players, courtesy of Supporter Group meetings, POTY dinners etc, and with the blessing of our Club, we feel closer to them - they are not just lads wearing the shirt on the pitch. And contrary to the likes of Rooney & Suarez, they are OUR lads ...not shared with armchair fans worldwide.
So, we feel sad when they leave us for pastures new - some will have made that "bond" stronger than others - but we invariably thank them for their time at our Club & wish them all the best for their future. This, I do without reservation tonight for those released today.
I make these comments in response to some I've read over the past few days that have made light, or fun even, of the emotion that's displayed when managers/players move on. We may use that well worn phrase "The Charlton family" with ease but for me, this encompasses not only the friends we make, the camaraderie ( or not!) on sites like CL etc but also those who have worn the red shirt, whether it be for one appearance or over a number of seasons.
On a personal level, I find it hard to support my Club without a high degree of emotion - possibly that's a female trait but there it is. The departures of SCP and then Jose have been hard to take & there is no option but to move on ....some are able to do this quickly, others take longer. Then, as is the nature of the beast, we lose 11 good men ( inc Ben H) with the prospect of possibly 3 more stalwarts adding to this number, to other Clubs ....and, whilst wishing them well, we move on again whilst keeping a keen eye on their progression elsewhere & lamenting the loss of our favourites.
What I'm trying to say ( I think!) is that I fervently hope this "emotion" we feel at losing part of our "family" continues with RD at the helm ; that our team will not be stocked with players from the network who may come & go at our owner's behest & who we may well find difficult to accept/who fail to secure that emotional bond that makes Charlton such a special Club.
And hence, in a few seasons' time, we may be saying our goodbyes to more players that have served us well & found their places in our Charlton hearts....if you know what I mean !
Very well said Jean, I couldn't have put that into words, but you did very eloquently.
So pleased that Danny Hollands has got himself a good deal, I really rated him and felt he didnt get much of an opportunity to show his best in the CC. All players have dips in form and DH was no exception, but I think he will help bring Pompey back up the divisions. Leon Cort....top man, I always felt safe when you were playing, shame you didnt come to us when you were a bit younger as you would have become one of our legends Im sure. Good luck and I hope you find a club very soon mate. Pritch, keep smiling and Im sure someone will snap you up very soon...dont give up. Danny Green....oh Dan, what happened to that form you showed at Dagenham? I had such high hopes for you mate...but for one reason or another you didnt ever seem to be up for it...I hope you re-discover your form and go on to good things. The other lads....good luck and thank you.
Seeing that post from Leon Cort was quite a surprise. It shows what a great guy he is, doesn't it?
Perhaps the next time someone's on here, just about to assassinate an eighteen year old who made a mistake on his debut, they might pause a moment and think that maybe that player is also on CL and is the vitriol really deserved?

Exactly he's been a member since September aswell . Top man Cort !
What a 'Charlton Man'!! Thanks Leon for your service to our club. Top player, Top Pro......a credit to your profession!!!......good luck in the future fella. COYR
@corster Thank you for posting and thank you for all you did as a player for CAFC. Top bloke posting your thanks on forum a credit to you sir. Good luck for the future and I hope, as do many guess, that you get a club sorted out soon. Thanks again for the 100% you gave when on the 'park'.
I was also lucky enough to meet you at Bromley Addicks. You were a credit to the Club, your profession and yourself.
Some people laughed at me last week when I said on here that referring to departing players as "deadwood" was disrespectful. This is why I think it is.
Dog eat dog in this world and these releases to me show that as a player you can't piss about and stay loyal to clubs when big offers come in. You've got to strike while the irons hot , while it may piss me off when players jump ship I totally understand they have to because they're a short time in the game and a long time out of it and the bills won't just pay themselves. So good luck to one and all in the future .
I was always pleased to see your name on the team sheet and enjoyed watching you play Leon. 100% no nonsense defender who was prepared to stand up and be counted by putting your body on the line especially when the shells were coming in late in games we were looking to get something from. Like so many ex players I have had the pleasure to watch over 55 years you have left some special memories for us fans to cherish. Thanks for taking the time to come on here and all the very best for the future.
Pretty touching to log in and see that post Leon, a real classy touch.
The closest to a negative comment I've heard about you was one that said you "looked like you'd taken a wrong turn when attempting to find a rugby club" (you're pretty damn big.), compared to some of the comments I've heard up in the North Upper that's the equivalent of worship.
I always saw you as a very good defender in a strong defence, and got the impression from those that had met you that you were a gentleman and a professional; two things you've just demonstrated for all to see.
Let the other lads know how much we've appreciated them, and thank them for the memories they've contributed too! As for the memories you've given us, I'll always remember going mental away at Birmingham after you scored - it's sad to see how things have changed since that moment.

Spot on Henners, none of our lads deserved to be described like that. We've been incredibly lucky with the players we've had on our books in my mind, professionals through tough times (of late) as well as the easy times (of 2011/12). I think Leon is the perfect example of the caliber of player we've had, after a tough season when it comes to saying farewell he actively comes out and engages the fans in their own community - something he didn't have to do, and something very few actually would.
Many other players could learn from the likes of Cort.

Forget football - this just shows your true quality as a man. Thanks for all you've done for us and very best wishes in the future in football and in life.
There you are....just shows that not all ex-Millwall and Crystal Palace players should be treated with contempt.
Good luck Leon....you won your headers, got in your blocks, gave it 100% and stayed patient while you were out of the team....that's all we could ever ask for. You'll do the same for your new club and their fans will take to you just like we did!
Top man Leon, all the best, wish we had signed you earlier in your career, could have a become even more of a favorite than you are. Good luck at your next club
Like others have said that goal at Brum was awesome going mad in the away end. Also your goal at Blackpool was pretty good for me as had you at 33/1 as first goal scorer.
Good Luck, the next club that you sign for is getting a top player and person.
Thanks for the memories @Corster and please pass the message on to the rest of the players especially those part of the league one winning season. That season will live long in the memories.
Thanks @Corster, appears you're a good bloke as well as a good centre back!
That goal at Birmingham will be what most remember you for in years to come I suspect but on a less serious note, I'll genuinely never forget watching you get a nosebleed as you dribbled the ball around the Carlisle penalty area in the FA Cup a couple of seasons back.
Best wishes to all the released players and thanks for all their efforts. Really pleased Danny H has already got a new club and hope things work out for the rest, too.
Lovely to read Corty's post - really special. Hope he is right that we find some stability soon...

Will never forget that goal at Birmingham, absolute scenes
Not to mention you won me my first ever bet with the goal at blackpool.

Cheers Corty and all the best mate.
