Curbs to return?

  • So, if Powelly was son of Curbs, and Curbs then becomes son of Powelly (Riga hasn't been here long enough to count), does that make Mrs Curbs Powelly's mum and daughter-in-law? Confused.com.
  • King Curbs, legend. We would be lucky if our next manager had half his ability and success with the club.

Won't happen for many reasons but I still hope he gets a job with another club, a real loss to management in UK football.
  • Would he sign up to what Chrissy couldn't sign up to anyway - I doubt it!
  • Calls for his return are almost quasi - religious with apocalyptical overtones! " And In the dark end times Curbs will return to save us.............!"

  • Do like him though
  • Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
  • That's a no from me
  • Id be over the moon with curbs but cant see it happening, cant understand all the negativity of why supporters would not want him,get him in and let him bring in the type of players that took us to the prem like Kinsella,Robinson,Mendonca,Hunt etc, masterstrokes that I would love to see repeated
  • The point is Saga Lout he brought these players in from colchester brighton grimsby and west brom unfasionable players playing for unfasionable clubs and made a great team out of these type of players. What is your masterplan suggestion

  • Just watched the centenary video again. Why we wouldn't want him back here is beyond me.

All the disasters of the last few years stemmed from replacing him with Dowie and his powerpoint presentation, then giving Dowie the money that wasn't on the table for Curbs.

I'd have him back if JR was not going to get the job.
  • If anyone can build us back up to some sort of force again he's the man but I can't see past us getting another manager that we have to search for him on Wikipedia just to see what he's all about not saying it's a bad thing could be a man with new ideas but as seen before can anyone second guess roland

Sorry bert - just my sense of humor. If I had a masterplan which worked I doubt I'd be working my nuts off to pay the rent every month.
  • To be honest we don't deserve him. Who can forget the 'he's taken us as far as he can' and 'we need someone
to take us to the next level' arguments! I remember before the 3-2 win over Liverpool fans hoping he'd get the sack as we had been on a bit of a

Rubbish to we do not deserve him. Sure a vocal minority wanted rid but most did not. Curbs was good for us and we were good for him.

Having said the above, thanks for memories Curbs but we want the next Curbs now.
  • I can't believe most of you seem to avoid him like the plague. Sorry but reading through this thread, I think Godstone is right, we don't deserve him.

I think it's very much a case of recognising that Curbs was absolutely right for Charlton then but things are very different now and I don't think his style of management would sit well with the current owners and vice versa. I cherish those Curbs years and would hate for that to be tainted by some sad attempt to recreate something that can never be recreated. I'm not saying we won't ever get back to the PL but it won't be like the first time with all that went with it. Leave it and Curbs there for me.

  • No to Curbs, but I'd rather have him, Big Sam or any season ticket holder than DiCanio
  • Curbishley did well for us, but definately 'did a ferguson' (or should that be ferguson 'did a curbs') by jumping from a sinking ship before the masses realised

Your post makes more sense to me than all the previous negative comments. Deep down I know his coming back probably won't work given the way RD runs the club. And I doubt he would take it if being offered the job. It's just I'm totally shocked to see so many simple and direct NO's as if he was someone like Dowie or Pardew.

    That's a fair point.

Can we move on please, legend in the history of this club can't thank him enough for what he did for us, no problem if he was to sit upstairs with a watching brief but day to day management it's a no from me and apologies @oohaamortimer for that view. Onwards and upwards COYRs.

    .
  • He was shit anyway. Never got us into Europe. Thank god we got rid when we did, we could still be stagnating in midtable obscurity.
  • 1 Arsenal (C)
    2 Chelsea
    3 Manchester United
    4 Liverpool
    5 Newcastle United
    6 Aston Villa
    7 Charlton Athletic

10 years ago. The manager of the winning side fourth this year and is older than A.C.
  • Far too good for us and he carried us for long enough......
We were lucky to have had him , without him we saw how good/bad Richard Murray was
  • Alan Cautiously to return?

People condemned the "son of Curbs" Chris Powell for his cautious and defensive tactics - learned at the feet of the master.

Curbs did a brilliant job here and earned his place in our roll of honour.
As Oohaah says, "we were lucky to have him".

    But time has moved on.

  • I bloody hope nope not CP picked up all his tactical nous from AC
  • I'd love to have Curbs back. It's just I think the chances of that are very remote.
  • Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
